Hello,
A customer is complaining that a read from a big file (26 Mb) from his VMS UCX
NFS server is not working all the time. I looked to a sniffer trace and it seems
that after the first read from the PC the VMS NFS server is not responding any
more. After a long period it will actually start sending the data but by that
time the PC already timed out. If we try again the same operation now, it will
work. If we higher the retry count on the PC it works all the time.
I will append the start of the trace here. Could someone look at it to find out
what the PC is doing wrong, so that it takes that long for the VMS to respond?
We tried the same thing here with another PC stack and don't have any delays.
The customer is still running ucx3.3 eco level 11, we tested it with ucx 3.3 eco
level 13.

| What's the record format of the file? If it's anything but Stream_LF,
the server is doing data conversion. Once the conversion is done, the
converted data stays in the server's cache for some time (ie., a time
equal to the value of inactivity timer from the last access of the
file, 2 minutes by default).
Is using higher retry count a problem?

| Hello,
Noops, it is not a streamLF file, but we couldnt reproduce the problem with a
normal ucx saveset which is definitely not streamLF, record format fixed length.
The customer has a record format variable length record attributes fortran
carriage control. Could this kind of file take longer to convert? I plan to do
some more testing as soon as I have some time and material for it.

| A 26MB should take a reasonably long time to convert. Keep in mind
that the file is being scanned on the first read for two reasons:
1) We need to determine what the converted size of the file is
2) We need to build a record map structure which allows the NFS
server to perform random access against the non-stream file.
