Couple of questions about installing and using UCX.
I've never done a TCP/IP installation before. I was reviewing the
Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS and Configuation manual and don't
see any mention of entering the IP number for the machine you are doing
the installation on. Am I missing something? Is it asked in the
configuration?
Also, customer only wants to be able to PING to this machine from
another machine to see if the machine I am doing the installation on
is up and available. What is the easiest way to get this done?
MINIMUM configuration? Or configure ALL and then disable all the
services I don't need. Actually what is the service I do need to
be able to be PINGed?
Appreciating any responses.

Hello,
When configuring the system, through UCX$CONFIG, you ahve probably seen
the in the Core environment (option 1 from the main menu), you have
option 4 - Interfaces, that's where you specify the IP-address of the
system, the network mark, the broadcast address. To be able to ping
from another system to this one, two possibilities :
1. You are in the same network as the other one : no problems to
ping, should work out of the box
2. If you are in different networks, routing should be setup to be
able to ping.
No other services are required to be able to use ping. Should you need
services just run UCX$CONFIG choose to enable the service and restart
UCX.
Basicaly this is it.
Rgds,
Guy

Hi, The IP address is part of the configuration. If all you want to be able to do is PING (or be a pingee) then you will only need to do the core setup - Use @SYS$MANAGER:UCX$CONFIG, answer any questions before you get the menu and then pick item 1 from the first menu. On the menu you get then, pick the "all" option and work thru that. Regards Dave Flanders UK CSC Basingstoke | |||||
