Checking to see if there is any know problems running NTP if the
Spectracom NetClock/2 reference clock. He is running ucx 3.3 eco7
at this time. Told him to upgrade to v4.1 but he does not want
to upgrade the 1800 systems unless we can prove to him the problem
is corrected in the new version.
I finally wound up setting up our Spectracom NetClock/2 reference clock
on a PC running Linux since I couldn't get either the VMS/UCX or the
Digital Unix NTP daemons to work with the clock (see C970102-3712 and
C970110-2773). The NTP on the Linux kit seems to be working just fine;
all the other system types (VMS-UCX, DU, Ultrix, and various PC SNTP
clients) seem to be able to use directly as a server. However, when I
enabled the "broadcast server" mode on the Linux system, the VMS/UCX
daemon ceased functioning.
All the VMS/UCX immediatedly acquired the Linux server as a "peer", but
never seemed to complete synchronizing with it. In this log file
segment, the broadcast server was turned on at 12:52, and this is all
that was written until I killed the daemon at 15:15 to restart it:

synchronizes with anything until 6:30 the next morning when I gave up

Is there any way to get the UCX NTPD to either synchronize properly
with
the NTP broadcast messages, or to even simply ignore them. I need to
be
able to use the broadcast server mode to handle all the PC based
clients, but can't afford to loose NTP on the VMS server at the same
time.
