3895.6 | Same behaviour, what to do? | BARNA::DSMAIL | | Fri Apr 18 1997 03:59 | 15 |
| Hello!!
I have a customer who's having the same behaviour explained above and
in note 2768.
The ucx version is 4.1 with eco level 5
We'd like to know how to resolve the problem and some workaround,
because the abnormal behaviour of the proxies don't allow the customer
to mount the exported directories.
To resume, the problem is that when he adds a user to the proxy it
appears in the type field as ON?, and there's no way to put it on
the dynamic proxy.
Any idea about what to do?
Amalia

Sad to say...
There are a number of problems with proxy and NFS,
particularly in the area of dynamic proxy and
especially in clusters. Large proxy databases
tend to make the problems exponentially worse.
They only way that I have ever been able to add NFS
proxies reliably is to add them to the permanent
DB (/perm) and then restart NFS by
executing sys$startup:ucx$nfs_shutdown and
ucx$nfs_server_startup (note the _server_).
Now, Julie may have a better way or a different
cut on proxy.
Since this is a customer problem, it surely deserves
an IPMT.
Lee
I believe the ? in the ON? indicates that the UCX control program
($UCX) timed out communicating with the NFS server. This can
occur under heavy loads, such as the NFS server in a cluster
reloading the proxy db after an addition/deletion.
