         One of my cousins visited Amsterdam and said it was the filthiest,
    most unpleasant place she had ever been in her life. The people were
    unbelievably rude to Americans. The Dutch or whatever they are tourists
    who come here are usually unpleasant as well. I know, I had to deal
    with people from all over the world at my last job.

    It's nice to find so many replies and not even find 1 unsolved
    mystery. (Het is fijn om zo veel antwoorden te krijgen zonder dat er
    een onopgeloste zaak tussen zit).
    
    It is also nice to find that I wasn't insulted by anybody with more
    that half a wit. (Het is ook fijn om niet beledigd te zijn door iemand
    die ze wel allemaal op een rijtje heeft)
    
    BTW If you ever go to Amsterdam, you should know where to go and don't
    just wander around, there are a lot of nice place if you know where to
    look for them. (Als je naar Amsterdam wilt gaan, moet je niet vergeten
    naar de Wallen te gaan en het Leidseplein).
    
    BTW 2 Have you already verified my dutch sentences with that dutch
    manager of yours ???

    avoid the seamier parts of town !!!, I think every big city has got

    back.
    
    Last time I went,we couldn`t get a hotel for the night (everywhere was
    full),so we had to walk the streets all night. A sauna said we could

I visited Amsterdam around 1961 or so. We thought it was way cool that
our ship (USS BOSTON) was something like fourteen miles inland. 

We visited art museums and the Amstel brewery, rode canal boats,
windowshopped on Canal Street ;^) and so forth. Thought it was a clean
city but grossly overpopulated with bicycles. Found the open public
bathrooms along the sidewalks interesting. Also found the mirrors
interesting.  People living in second-floor apartments have mirrors (like
car mirrors) afixed to the outside of the house, so they can watch the
sidewalks in both directions without getting out of their chairs.

We were not impressed by the restaurant food.

Our crew gave the Dutch Red Cross about 500 pints of blood while we were
there. I had a pretty, delft-blue-eyed blonde nurse hold my hand the
whole time I was leaking blood into the container. I probably would have

    Hi 'pril,
    
    Too many that were much to young(16,17). I've spend most of the
    evening as a doorman for a bunch of students that were investegating
    what kind of people visit houseparties, what drugs they use, how much,
    etc. It was real funny to have the authorithy to refuse people or to
    be kind and let them sit without a ticket. You needed a ticket if you
    want to enter 'our' area. People were really gratefull if I let them 
    pass. 
    It was a long time ago I was on a big party and this was the last time.
    I'm getting old; from this day I'll only go to 'small' parties, people
    there are more my age.
