    ony 11:05 here in Chicago.

    I returned 3 weeks ago.
    
    My contract is for another 9 weeks. I may yet go before that so I have
    to be busy...

No one "got deleted" in those days since it was impossible to do except for RMS
hackers.  The 'Box was much different in those days, not like the "sanitized
for your protection" version we have now.  How many current Boxers know the
significance of the number 204?

    	I think after the note itself was deemed "insulting", even a
    	note that simply said "Go to 204" was deemed insulting since

    flamers topic in Easynet notes circa Nov. 85. So not a few years before
    86. 
    
    Anyhow, some were CTnoters (quite boxlike in parts) in 83.

    	I wasn't around when it started, but I do believe it was a
    	smoking discussion that kicked off SOAPBOX.
    

    Not smoking, just a general notesfile to flame in to draw the heat from
    other notesfiles.

Actually, Simon started the first 'box in order to stem ratholes in
CTNOTES. Someone was starting one there complaining about smoking in the
office areas, so Simon created the SOAPBOX conference and wrote the
first topic entitled "Smoking in Office Areas". I recall that this was in 
either '83  or '84, as it was at the time I was building my house. I think
it's all covered in the history connected to the 'box homepage.

    I remember the stuff about smoking as it was that topic which 
    'introduced' me to our dearly departed General Bubba Beeler.

The smoking topic that spawned the 'Box was in the ENET conference.
