     Jack,
      In Note 680.183 you stated the following;
     "Keep that which you escaped from behind, don't bring it here.
    It is not appreciated or valued."

    Does that mean your against St. Patrick's day?

682.27MKOTS3::JMARTINMadison...5'2'' 95 lbs.Fri Mar 15 1996 15:1911
   Z "Keep that which you escaped from behind, don't bring it here.
   Z It is not appreciated or valued."

   Z Does that mean your against St. Patrick's day?

    Depends. Did you flee from Ireland BECAUSE you found St. Patty's day
    oppressive? That's what I meant by the above statement. In other
    words, don't bring customs over here that are going to undermine
    American culture. If one escapes FROm someplace, then one must be
    looking for a new life. One does not bring their dirty laundry with
    them...make sense?
682.28GENRAL::RALSTONOnly half of us are above average!Fri Mar 15 1996 15:232

    the learning channel had a great deal on Irish history. really good
    segments from their wars with the Vikings to...

    PBS also aired Out of Ireland (ch. 44) which chronicled early history
    through the coming to America. also quite interesting (except for the
    9,000 or so intermissions to air their fund drive message).

    Saturday, 1:00, parade, Mass Ave, Cambridge. The highlights, according
    to one who counts - catching a piece of candy, the Bud horses, and
    the seahorses.  (In that order.)

    Sunday, 11:00. Real Irish food and drink at Finnegan's Wake. I had
    the potatoe (thank you JDQ) pancakes.

    Great food. Great drink. Great music.

    (Keyboard/Flute playing jazz with an occasional, and appropriate,
    quotes for the day.)

    But a server who was having way more than a little trouble, and
    management who was clueless about what the proper answer to such
    major problems.
