604.0. "Pat Schroeder Leaving Congress" by MIMS::SANDERS_J () Fri Dec 01 1995 14:36

She will not run for re-election for the House seat in Colorado.

What do you think of that?

I saw Patsy on the Today show (yesterday? today?). I could only describe
her interview voice as "gurgling". Everytime she responded to a question,
the answer "gurgled" out as if she was half talking and half laughing.

I'd find that hard to put up with over a period of time.

CSPAN has been doing a series on the 3-400 ex-Congresspeople and
ex-Senators wandering around the good old US of A. Many from both
parties, all over the political spectrum. I've heard a few of the
interviews and it was filled with quotes like, "the best thing I
ever did was leave", "gee, you mean, I get a life to live ?" and
"what a relief it is when you stop !" Whether retired or defeated,
I guess I've never heard a happier bunch, and I bet Pat will be the
same way. Her district will elect some other clueless liberal, so
it isn't a desertion of her cause. Twenty+ years is enough of this.

Watching the 104th, it is not surprising to me to see so many
leaving voluntarily, and of course in 96, many will be defeated.
Good ! Turnover is good for everybody, including the politicians.

Any comments on the slow break up of the Democrats? How many defections are
we up to now? It's an interesting phenomenon... they don't like being
minority? They sense a shift in the political winds, and want out while the
outtin's good? Rats/sinking ship? The most ultra of the ultra-libs are
leaving in droves.

To be fair, I heard 5 Repubs are quitting, too.

Spiro Agnew was elected County Executive in Baltimore County MD in 1962
on a eductaion theme. He then ran for governor in 1966 and won since
the Democratic Partyu split their ticket between perrenial runer/loser

He believes in God, and he believes that God believes in Jack
    (that's him).

Z That is so damn stupid, Jack...even for you! Let's not base our
Z thoughts about someone on their own merits or lack there of, let's base
Z it on the parents, or where they went to school, or where they live, etc....

I will concede this point since I made a hasty generalization.
However, since dad was standing behind him with a chit eating grin on
his face, I can only assume he will actually pull the strings and the
    son will be a puppet.

I think most fathers would look happy if their child had just been elected to
Congress.

Sure I believe in repentance; but the fact still remains that he
fathered 5 illigit kids and I'm telling you this is a trend toward the
growth of welfare spreading throughout America. Luckily he has the
resource to monitarily support these kids; however, as pres of the
NAACLP, he is still a role model. I would like to hear him extol the
virtues of the opposite behavior he possessed publicly.

Wasn't it Twain that said "Every now and then an innocent man is sent
to the legislature"? My wife really got upset when I commented that
our 22 month old son showed attributes for a promising career as a
    politican.

Notice I said "look happy," not "be happy."
