Which is why, after the .25 Beretta's abysmal lack of stopping power
nearly cost Bond his life in _From Russua with Love,_ M required him to
dispose of his beloved Beretta with the skeleton grip and upgrade to
something with enough power to stop someone, i.e., a 9mm Walther PPK.

Hmmmm...I seem to remember that scene. Bond was saying he never
needed anything more than the Beretta (and I remember him stopping a
lot of bad guys with it), but M made him give it up for the Walther
because it was department issue. I could be mistaken....it's been a
long time.
jim
p.s. - the current .25acp rounds are much more potent than what was
available in the time-frame of James Bond movies. The Hornady .25acp
moves out at 900fps (faster than a .45acp and most std pressure
.38spls).

Could have been a .380ACP. Whatever the PPK normally shoots.
As for a 900-fps .25ACP, what're the bullet weights in grains, and
what're the muzzle velocities, of a .25ACP, a .380ACP and a .45ACP? I
want to crunch muzzle energy numbers.

Binder, do you believe everything you read in fictional books and

You know that lovely little BMW Z3 that Bond drives now? It has

But I'd bet it appears to be the next Lamborghini Countach when
viewed on the big screen.

They may have called it a 9mm in the book, because the .380acp is
also known as the 9mm "short" in some circles.
> As for a 900-fps .25ACP, what're the bullet weights in grains, and

For the hornady .25acp at 900fps it uses a .35grn JHP. The .380ACP
will launch a 90grn JHP at 900-1000fps (depends how hot...CorBon loads
are around 1000fps). The .45acp military load is a 230grn FMJ at
830fps (you can get hot stuff over 900fps).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that a .25acp has more/equal
stopping power when compared with the larger calibers, just that it
will suffice when carrying a larger firearm is not an option (light
clothing, etc).

Sounds like poor quality control to me. Why didn't they make it
the correct length so they didn't have to stamp the correction on
every 1??
This is just like "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear".
I always wondered why they didn't fix the darn things so that they

A .45ACP has six times the stopping power of a .25ACP and nearly twice
that of a .380ACP. Let us remember that in the Spanish-American War,
American officers were killed after emptying their .38 Colt service
revolvers into advancing enemy who were not stopped by that sort of
pantywaist lead. Which is why the .45ACP came into existence.

> A .45ACP has six times the stopping power of a .25ACP and nearly twice
> that of a .380ACP.
Whoa...hold it right there. What are we basing our "stopping power"
on? You haven't taken into account bullet design which is a MAJOR
contributing factor to "stopping power". A better way of stating your
point would be that .45acp has 6 times the ENERGY of .25acp. If I shoot
you with a .380acp Mag-Safe round (frangible) and a .45acp FMJ round
(non-expanding), I guarantee the .380 will cause more tissue
damange/trauma.
> Let us remember that in the Spanish-American War,
> American officers were killed after emptying their .38 Colt service
> revolvers into advancing enemy who were not stopped by that sort of
> pantywaist lead. Which is why the .45ACP came into existence.
And let us remember that the .38spl was slinging a 158grn RNL
bullet at the time (at very slow velocities...about 700fps), thus
resulting in low-penetration (i.e. - very few vital hits...see Jim
Cirillo, ex NYPD, and his work with .38spls). In comes the .45acp
throwing a bullet that weighs almost twice what the .38spl weighs, at a
higher velocity, PLUS the bullet is an FMJ (increasing penetration to
14" or more...it could penetrate the entire thoracic cavity). Care to
guess what happens when you throw an FMJ into a warmer .38spl round?
Care to guess why the 9mm was chosen over the .45acp for the military?
Increased penetration!! Less bullet area plus increased velocity
results in more penetration for 9mm FMJ than .45acp FMJ.
If one were to use strictly lead rounds of the same composition,
the .45 will win out due to it's greater weight. BUT, if you throw
bullet design into the equation it changes everything......

ice-cold tongue.

| Good friggin' luck. If you find a woman that doesn't have an ice cold
tongue immediately after orgasm, the researchers will tell you "she was
faking it." Yeah, sure.
