Lately, it's like this:
1800 Alarm goes off. I curse the day I was born.
1810 - 1820 Drag myself out of bed. Turn on the local news and
drink a cocktail of diluted grape juice (for the
glucose), creatine monohydrate, glutamine, caffeine,
ma huang (ephedra), vanadyl sulfate, and certain other
compounds while yelling at the talking heads.
1840 Take shower. Slowly wake up as the caffeine and ephedra hit
my system (it's like stepping out of a dense fog.)
1900 Slowly consume a pre-workout meal (moderate protein, high carbs
from maltodextrin, some essential fatty acids in the form of
flaxseed oil, which is high in linolenic acid) and drink lots
of water while watching more news and The Simpsons. More
caffeine, ephedra, aspirin, vitamins, etc.
2015 - 2030 Drive to gym.
2030 - 2045 Hit the gym and lift huge weights, the kind that would
make lesser men quake in their boots. I have the strength
of ten men. ;-)
2130 The gym closes.
2140 They finally kick me out. I stand out by my car, sweating like
a pig and gasping for air, until I cool down enough to drive.
2200 Arrive back at home, after running the usual gauntlet of
corrupt, abusive cops, drug pushers and users, hookers, drunken
louts, feuding domestic couples, rabid animals, doctors, lawyers,
and the occasional Indian chief. Turn on more news and repeat
the grape juice cocktail, minus the caffeine and other
stimulants. My sainted mother (bless her heart) may call
to bedevil me at this time.
2230 Take shower, get dressed for work.
2300 Eat post-workout meal (high protein, moderate carbs, low fat)
while watching late news. If you haven't guessed by now, I'm
a complete news junkie.
2330 Still bustling about trying to get out the door. Grabbing food
to take, material to read, muttering to myself as I run through
my mental checklist.
2340 Leave for work, threading my way through the maze of
potential aggressors again. Nice little paranoid world I
live in, no? No. Not if you live in my neighborhood.
2355 Arrive at work. And so it begins...sigh. I will spare you
the typical banal dreck.
0200 Log into soapbox (yay!)
Work, notes, eat, work, work, notes, eat, work, work...
1200 - 1230 Leave work. Drive home, with the sunlight hurting
my vampire eyes. Everything is so weird and glittery
in the daylight when you're used to the night. It grates
on you like eating tinfoil, or nails on a chalkboard.
1300 Back at Ranch Apocalypse. Eat and channel surf.
1400 Hit the sack (ow!) Zzzzzzz....
I know, I really need to get a life. But it's my world, and welcome
to it.

| Dear Diary
(Ray Thomas)
Dear diary, what a day it's been.
Dear diary, it's been just like a dream.
Woke up late. Wasn't where I should have been.
For godness sake what's happening to me.
Write lightly, yours truly, dear diary.
It was cold outside my door.
So many people by the score.
Rushing around so senselessly.
They don't notice there's people like me.
Write lightly, yours truly, dear diary.
They don't know what they're playing.
They've no way of knowing what the game is.
Still they carry on doing what they can.
Outside me, yours truly, dear diary.
It's over. Will tomorrow be the same?
I know that they're really not to blame.
If they wern't so blind then surely they'd see.
There's a much better way for them to be.
Inside me, yours truly, dear diary.
.
.
.
Dear Diary:
Somebody exploded an H-bomb today.
But it wasn't anyone I knew.

14th July
06:00 Woke up thinking "where the **** am I"
06:00+1sec Go back to sleep still not knowing where I am
07:00 Alarm goes off, remember I'm in a hotel room alone and
decide it'd be a good idea to wake up, shower and get
some food before the nice Gendarmerie put a ticket on
my car or tow it away
07:40 Climb into clothes (post-shower); stagger downstairs for
crappy breakfast of solid bread roll and various cold bits
of very dead animals (veggies - sorry, but it's true)
08:20 Decide that I've had far too much apple juice and tea, so
I'd better go rescue my car from the ravages of the city
08:40 Finally remember where I'd parked my car the night before,
discover there's a parking ticket on it anway
08:42 Get organised and drive out of the heart of the city
09:00 Realise that I've been down every road in Brussels and
still can't find my way onto the elusive Evere-bound road
09:05 Find the road to the airport - that'll do for a general
direction to start with
09:20 Arrive at work after another adventure-filled trek into
the land of oblivious drivers
09:30 Find out that things are knackered at the Solent office -
fix before settling down to work here
09:50- Work like crazy ready for tonight's upgrade
12:20
12:21-
12:50 Eat great tasting lunch in Evere canteen, make snide and
other sarcastic comments in equally squalid conversation
with Mssrs Brown, Winpenny, Mingus, Moreno & Bryanton
12:55- As per 09:50-12:20 - discover that I can't get an outside
16:45 line from any bloody phone in the office, so my answerphone
on the mobile will have to wait
16:46- Inform users that their beloved system is being taken away
17:00 from them for the DECstep upgrade - several complain and
get told that I don't care if their arse is on fire and
they need the system to douse the flames that they can't
have another five minutes
17:01 Decide that I'm a mean git for not letting them work for
five more minutes - then think "what the hell; if they
want to work on Friday evening then they don't deserve to"
17:01+a-bit Start to gently fall asleep before remembering I have
several hours work left
17:02- Perform upgrade on BIS2 in the vain hope that it will
01...and somehow make the world a better place and not get me
counting... fired if I totally screw things up
01:22 See Richard and Jose (performing a different system's
upgrade) trying to decide which wall to punch first
01:23 Decide that it's a fairly good time to fall asle.......
(I wish)

| I guess this entry could have gone in the TTLT or the TTWA or the TTMYG
topics but since I couldn't decide....
Had a good day today. Started off by heading downtown to attend a
seminar at Bell. Set a new record for surfing the tracks - 6 blocks, green
lights all the way and kept 4 tires on the streetcar tracks at all
times - it takes skill, I tell you. Then, I found a primo parking
spot. The seminar was great (Voice Communications I) and the
presenter(or?) was quite dynamic. I managed to avoid doing my usual
head nods by late afternoon. It was quite weird actually - she had
many of the EXACT same mannerisms and voice inflections as Marcia
Clark! Good thing she looked a little different or I would never have
been able to concentrate. Spent lunch at City Hall and there is a
price war going on with the hot-dog vendors. Two bucks for an Italian
sausage and DC - such a deal. Nobody can BBQ up those weinies like the
street vendors. I tend to choose the one who offers the most creative
toppings, however I think the guy who had the pickelled eggs out today
was going a bit overboard. Had a wander by the courthouse today and
people were already lining up for tomorrows public seating at the
Bernardo trial. Today was his first day on the stand and I'll enter
some info in the appropriate topic. Finished up the seminar at 3:00
which was a real bonus for me since I usually don't get out of the
office until closer to 6:30pm. Didn't have as much luck with the
tracks on the way home 8*( Stopped at a hair salon and got a perm
that actually turned out pretty good. I usually hate it for the first
two months, but this time I think I should start liking it in a couple
of days! The humidity had *finally* broken and I can breath again so
all in all, it's been a fine day. I did have a TTMYGT to include, but
I can't even remember what it was....
