I sent my mother a dozen roses and rang her up this afternoon.
Pretty standard stuff, but hey, she's in Florida; what else could I do?
Yes, I'm feeling guilty 8^/.

| Allright, Mark.
I just wanted to check it out. You know, there's some kinda prejudice
regarding 'murican style over here.
I'm glad you didn't dissapoint me.
Any add-ons to the hollandaise ?
I may be adding some freshly 'cut' (wrong word) red pepper to the
hollandaise this Sunday.

I called my mom and my m.i.l. and wished them a happy day.
I gave them their cards and gifts last weekend.
My hubby made me my favorite dinner...make your own beef fahita's
with all the fixing, and then we played one mean game of Monopoly with
the kids, which I kicked butt on!! They all lost miserably while I
owned all the railroads, both utilities, Boardwalk, ParkPlace, and
three full sets of other locations, with hotels up the wazoo! :*)

My mother was on a trip with my father...
As for Lynn, took her shopping, then sent out for chinese food.
She really liked the card we got her. While everyone else
at the pharmacy was looking at traditional cards, I chose
one from the "Sympathy" section. We all signed it and she
cracked up when she read it.
Knowing how hard it is for a full time mother and housewife
it seemed appropriate.

Saturday, kiddies and I purchased presents. Flowers, a Nathaniel
Hawthorne book, some kitchen gadgetry, etc.
Yesterday, I decided to cook breakfast for my wife and my mom,
prompting my daughter to inquire if I had notified the Red
Cross, but I digress... :-)
I cooked French Toast. I've cooked breakfast many times before,
but somehow French Toast was not on my resume. I decided to
experiment a little and used a large round Italian loaf as
the bread, with a batter of eggs, milk, sour cream, nutmeg,
cinnamon, vanilla extract and sugar. The FT came out quite
nice and there were no casualties.
My father hates it when I cook, because he never does and it
makes him feel awful... my mother made sure to say how great
it was to have someone cook for her, about 100 times I think...
:-) And my wife seemed to enjoy having me around for the day,
which was also quite a surprise...

| It's really quite charming. Overladen with Brit stereotypes of the
Welsh, but a very enjoyable film. It deserves to do well at the box
office, not because it is a monumentally great film but because it is
charming, unpretentious, and thoroughly entertaining on its own terms.

since my 'mother' is not speaking to me, i decided not to waste the
dime or the stamp. my grandmother got a card, eventho she is not
talking to me, either. spent the morning lounging around the house,
did some laundry, cleaned out the car, then headed over to my
boyfriend's house for dinner. gave cards and prezzies (earrings,
different for each) to his mother, sister, and sister-in-law (it was
her first, so she got gifts, and i didn't want to leave his sister out).
then we just hung out, playing nintendo and watching some tv. seems
the network decided to pull a switharoo...the tv guide said 'seaquest'
was on, but instead, it was reruns of 'wings' and 'fraiser' ... but the
first 1/2 of the stephen king miniseries was pretty good.

| A friend of mine, who incidentally lives near Chepstow, on the Welsh
border, decided it'd be a laugh if he tried to take one of the sheep
for a walk! Problem was, the animal was too stupid to realise that
by running away it was strangling itself on the choker lead. The
worrying thing is that this guy's a barrister...

For Mother's day I decided to surprise my ex by preparing a lobster dinner.
So, I purchased 4 of them and stuffed them in the refigerator til Sunday
afternoon, at which time the plan was to take them to her house and boil
'em up. Got to her house, and got the water boiling away and then the power
went off in her part of town..OK..dumped the water, grabbed the pots, lobsters
and assorted paraphenalia and went over to my place. By now I'm sure the
lobsters were thinking life was pretty grand..get plucked out of the pool
at the store, taken for a ride, put in nice cool place in the refrigerator..
taken for another ride, stuffed into another refrigerator, and then another
ride back to my place...at one time I thought I heard them shouting with
glee "We're home!" as I put them back in my fridge..alas, their glee was
short lived as they were plunged into the boiling water, realizing that
life wasn't all that grand..
'twas a nice evening, though.

| So I had carefully bought the latest Barbara Michaels book for my wife
for Mother's Day. Saturday we were at the mall and I said I needed to
dash into Suncoast Video. She immediately latched onto the idea that,
hey, Waldenbooks is right across the way. I said no, you can't go in
there. After a couple of back-and-forth remarks, I had to tell her to
go ahead but she wasn't to buy the newest Barbara Michaels book cuz I'd
already bought it.
Ah me...
Yesterday was okay, nice and quiet, a little work in the garden and a
dinner of fettucine alla carbonara with a side of asparagus sauted in
browned butter with sesame seeds, and a nice oaky Chardonnay to imbibe.
