I thought it had been superseded by the 7.62 jobbie (I still reckon

| >Is the square root of the hypotenus of an icoceles right triangle

>The Scarecrow says so!!
The answer to Jack's question is "no" (Scarecrow not
withstanding).
The Pyhtagorean theorem states that the hypotenuse is equal
to the square root of the _sum_ of the squares of the
remaining sides.
If you look at the formula Jack gives, the answer for
an isosceles (two sides of equal length) right triangle
(the angle opposite the hypotenuse is 90 degrees), then
the solution would be c = sqrt (a**2). which (if one
does the algebra) is the same as c = a = b.
Let's look at a real example. First of all, as I mention
above, an isosceles has two sides of equal length. If
you think about this, the "adjacent angles" (where the
two sides meet the third side) must be equivalent. Since
the sum of the inside angles of a triangle is 180 degrees,
neither of the adjacent angles can be 90 degrees. So
in an isosceles right triangle, the hypotenuse cannot
be one of the equal length sides. We have thus identified
the hypotenuse (if you have means to measure the angles
instead of the length of the sides, the hypotenuse is
always "opposite" the 90 degree angle in a right
triangle, so you can use that means to identify the
hypotenuse as well).
So, if our isosceles sides are of length 5, then the
hypotenuse is of length sqrt(50), or 7.07 (do the math
using the Pythagorean theorem as shown above). By
Jack's theorem, the answer would be 5 (the square
root of five squared), which is the wrong answer,
new math notwithstanding.
For extra points, what is the value of the two adjacent
angles in an isosceles right triangle?

| Mz_Deb, the throttle latch on a weed trimmer is very likely to be what
DelBlasto says. Look for it on the handle, where the throttle is. The
throttle should be a trigger that you squeeze, and the most usual kind
of throttle latch is another trigger-like thingie on the other side of
the handle. You squeeze the throttle, then squeeze the throttle latch,
then release the throttle, then release the latch - which will have
caught on a notch on the throttle trigger such that it holds the
throttle in. When you squeeze the throttle again after starting the
engine, the throttle latch springs loose.

MZ_Deb, I think you've found it. Fiddle around with it a little.
On my chainsaw the squeezing order is the other way. You can't sqeeze
the throttle unless you have the latch squeezed - the latch is a double
purpose device that also serves as a deadhead switch. So to start the
saw, you squeeze the latch, squeeze the trigger, release the latch, and
release the trigger - which catches on an inverted notch in the latch.
Your trimmer might also work this way.

the RFG fuel, if at all possible, until we find out how much truth there
is to the claims about its uselessness in 2-cycle engines, else you may end
