| I'd heard that what most of the Edmondtonians do for excitement
is go to Calgary.

Jeez, I thought I'd opened ::CANADA by mistake here 8^).
I must admit I haven't a clue about what one does in Edmonton, but if
you find any nice little gift shops, you can buy me a souvenir. There!
That's something to do 8^).

| Well, the West Edmonton Mall is an absolute must see.
We visited it a few years ago. Drove up to the mall, had the varlet at
the Fantasyland Hotel park our car, and didn't leave the mall until
three days later.
Best waterslides I've found anywhere in the indoor waterpark. Lots of
good restaurants. And about forty shoe stores.

That's about all there is in Edmonton really.

395.7 | no mall | POLAR::WILSONC | | Sun Apr 23 1995 22:19 | 12 |
| Well I think I am going to try and skip the mall thing only because
everybody is saying to go to it. It is the kind of thing that makes my
skin creep. I hate malls, oh but yes I forgot this mall is maore than a
mall it is a MALL. My friends are going to have to hog tie me to get me
to that that thing the thought of it is giving me heebeegeebees. Like I
need to see yet another Pharma Plus or Bata shoe store. The thought of
thousands of snotty nosed little kids under one roof sorta terrifies
me. Worse than that are the hundreds of alienated, disgusted, bored
retail clerks I would be facing. I feel sorry for them, I know what
they are going through having worked in a couple malls myself,
disgusting places. I cant imagine working at a mall that claims Jesus
stature. I could go on and on but I fear that I would make myself sick.

| If your friends are going to hogtie you, you may as well go to
Calgary anyway.

| I'm sorry you dislike shopping malls so much that you don't want to try this
one, even though it is more like an amusement park AND mall under one roof. And
re the bored, imperious, unknowldgeable etc. clerks, yes I have experienced
this in U.S. shopping malls too, but Canada is different from the U.S. and you
just might find that that you ENJOY doing business with the store clerks there.
There must be SOMETHING fun to do in Edmonton besides the mall. Mobil Travel
Guides cover Canada now; that's a good place to start looking.
And at this time of year, you won't have to worry about freezing your butt
off, though it will be cooler than most of the U.S.

two weeks there in Jan. 93 on a consulting project. I am still thawing
out.

parts of Canada talked about plants that were suitable for their climates.
The guy from Edmonton kept saying "this won't grow in my part of the country."

| SPEND, SPEND, SPEND! That's what I suggest to our friends south of the
border when they come up here! (Cept for Gas cause we price it more
realistically than youse guys). At some 35% below par, there are some
real deals up here (and not all of them are in a mall).
If you've got time, when in Edmonton, perhaps a trip to the rockies
(don't know exactly how far away they are from Edmonton - just a short
drive I'd imagine.
Never been there; liked Calgary tho.

I imagined the same thing once, boy was I wrong. There are quite a few
hours of **very** uninteresting countryside between Edmonton and the
Rockies. It is not like Calgary, where they are only an hour away.

| I was in Edmonton for two days, went to the mall, stayed with some
tolerable redneck friends of my buddy. At the mall I went to the green
machine then to the bar where we stayed until the ladies finished
shopping. I saw the swimming pool, yeah so what seen one before, saw
the skating rink, I've seen a skating rink before too. What did impress
me though was the silliness of the whole venture a really huge joke in
the middle of nowhere. Went to Calgary for two days and enjoyed that
more. My friend in Calgary lent me his metal box with wheels so I drove
about 800 kms seeing the sights. Very nice. All considered I had a good
time but I always have a good time.
