    Monetary gifts?

For Valentine's Day, I had my mom meet me at the mall.
We stopped at a jewler to 'window shop'. When the sales
lady came over to see if we needed any assistance, mom
started to say no, but I stopped her.

Me: "Yes. (pointing to my mom) This young lady would like to
    have her ears pierced."

The look on my mother's face was classic. She wanted to have
second holes put in, but was afraid my dad would not like it.
I talked to dad about it, and he thought it was a great idea.
I bought her a very pretty pair of simple, tiny, emerald studs.

She cried, gave me a big hug, and told me she loved me, in the
middle of the jewelery store. I felt warm all over. It was the
happiest I've seen her in a long time. (She's been very very sick
    for a very long time.)

Then I took her to the hairdressers for a wash, cut, and style.
From there we went to Lord and Taylor for a new outfit of casual
clothing for comfort while she was out of work. Then out to dinner.

It was great to make her happy. Made me happy too.

    someone said (i forget who)

"if you seek happiness for yourself, it will elude you. if you seek
happiness for others, it will find you."

    case in point?

| | I told my brother who is a boomer that I liked Bob Dylan and that I
think SO much of Bob that I wish he would live for ever. My brother was
so excited to see that the younger generation was on the right track
that he cried, I cried we all cried, it felt good not being in denial
any longer. I even went out and bought my self a fringed leather
jacket, guitar, a ruck sack, a cpoy of the Dharma Bums, a couple of
loaves of bread, some cheese, and a jug of 10 year old port and
hitchhiked to seattle and became a Grunge god. Too bad I couldn't be a
real hippy. God I wish I was born in the fifties, It must have been soo
cool. Now me and my brother get along great I'll never ever forget this
    gift of everlasting love.
