    ...ooops, Bob Tilton, our local (Dallas) "Word of Faith" "preacher".

239.2MPGS::MARKEYI most definitely think I mightTue Jan 10 1995 17:5911
    Ah, Bob Tilton, the original "squishy face" preacher... as in, if I
    squish my face up real good Jay-sus will most certainly hear my
    prayers. Run off of national TV for being, um, less than honest
    about what he did with all those "prayer offerings".

    Also used to wonder why when he spoke in tongues, God chose to
    make him sound like an auctioneer.

    Strange strange guy.

    At first, I thought this topic was about Bob Palmer, boy am I sadly
    mistaken.

    Actually, this isn't an answering machine. A computer answers and asks
    if you want the latest inspirational message, speaking in tongues,
    Rev. Bob's "miracle garments", etc.

    Most everyone in Dallas has called it. It used to be busy for hours
    on end. I still consider it a lift to call once in a while.

    When are they gonna repaint the tower along 635?

What tower?

    The big multi-colored striped thing.  I know it's along I-635, I'm not
    sure how close it is to I-35. Maybe it's more like a grain elevator.

I only travel 635 between Central (75) and the Tollway these days.

    Last time I saw that grain elevator it had been repainted. It's white
    now. I believe they redid it soon after Tilton's fame crashed.
    (I-35 and Valley View/Valwood Pkwy area in Farmer's Branch).

239.13Both were filled with rocks (Bob's head & the Grain Elevator)SCAPAS::GUINEO::MOOREI'll have the rat-on-a-stickMon Jan 30 1995 17:426

    Actually they repainted it because the Carrollton (Tx) city council
    enforced an ordinance against it. And it's on I-35, not 635.

    FYI, the grain elevator is now an indoor rock-climbing training
    facility. Much more useful, if you ask me...
