true or false: making new year's resolutions is just setting yourself
    up for failure.

Well Joe, I'm assuming that you will write & share that journal of yer
dreams right here in 'BoxLand. Thattiz, if publishing it won't cheapen
    ya too overmuchly... :-)

Journaling dreams? Sounds occultish to me :-). Concerning failure,
folks that try to make themselves believe they are going to do a
complete makeover of their bad habits, vices etc. are setting themselve
up for failure. Pick one or maybe two. Be realistic. Set obtainable
    goals.

Example: Do not vow to lose 400 lbs in 6 months. Do vow to work at
losing weight through changing dietary or exercise habits.

There are easy ones (for some) like not eating certain foods, reading
more, spending more time with the family etc. The world changing
resolutions are much more difficult if not impossible to acieve.

200.53Bring on 96'!CONSLT::MCBRIDEpack light, keep low, move fast, reload oftenFri Dec 29 1995 09:4657
After much consideration I have decided on the following resolutions
which are all selfish in nature but if I do not take of me, first, I
will not be able to help others if I want/need to. Last year I set
very few goals, none of which were very specific in nature so I leave
95' with not a very good feeling of accomplishment. Given that, I
resolve to do the following for 96':

    Financials:

Go on a budget, stick to it. Give myself an allowance prefunded with a
certain amount and stash any excess in investment vehicles, cash on
hand, or debt reduction. Maintain a minimum balance in savings for
    reserves and emergencies.

Payoff all outstanding debts with the exception of the mortgage.
Credit cards have crept up with vacations and holidays and unforseen
expenses. Car loan is doable in twelve months if I divert extra income
    that way.

Double investments by maxing 401K participation.

    Professional:

    Become proficient in UG V10.

    Change careers.

Attain Level I Coaching Certificate. Easily done by attending the
    required clinic in January.

    Personal:

Let go of those things that continue to haunt me or act upon those that
will not go away. Sounds all encompassing but I have one specific
issue to resolve. This will be main source of turmoil and anxiety for
    96'.

Use my club membership or let it go. For my health, I will use it.

Use the personal organizer I have or let it go. For my sanity, I will
    use it.

    Recreational:

Work on my golf game by treating myself to a lesson or two and sign up
for the league. Still don't GAS about my score but it would be nice to
have a higher percentage of good shots.

Spend more time on my bike, in the woods. More as a means of enjoying
the outdoors but the health benefits don't hurt either.

    Go backpacking to Katahdin.

    Have a good year everyone!
