Rtg/oracle 3.1 OpenVMS Alpha 6.2 Gateway used to work until they installed the delta/time patch and another patch to fix problems with the delta/time patch. Now get the following error when attaching to rtg/oracle: ... ORA-06106 which means: 06106, 00000, "NETTCP: socket creation failure" // *Cause: Process open file quota probably exceeded. // *Action: Contact your customer support representative. He checked fillm, astm, enqueuelm and they are all much higher then what we have on our system here. I told him he needs to be sure he has the Oracle client software installed on his VMS system. Then he can run sqlplus and test the connection using sqlplus user/pass@node. o6106 is a network error so I think the sqlplus test will be a good one. If this doesn't work, he needs to call Oracle support. But he can't run sqlplus. He gets the same error I get activating an image unless I start up oracle. So it definately looks like he is missing some piece of this software and he admits it saying they are doing rolling upgrades and in this case they just copied a system disk to this system. What is the exact name of the Oracle client software that they need to install? If you look at pg 5-1 of the Dist Option install guide "Configuring the Rdb Transparent Gateway to Oracle" it says RDBMS is required but doesn't say on what node. No mention of the Oracle client software needed. Also please see note 1160 latest reply - need to know what this sw is called for another customer as well. Thanks, Diane

Did he relink the Oracle7 software after installing the VMS patch? Depending on what O7 software he has installed, and what versions, he may need to relink - there is an article floating around giving the details. Brenda | |||||

Hi Dan, >>> SQL*net Does that mean we tell all customers either: 1. You need sql*net, sqlplus and o7 rdbms, OR 2. You need oracle client software only which means you need to: a) install SQL*Net. And, if we can't get it to work such as trying the contents of note 1160.6) b) install Distributed Option - not the gateway because this installation will fail and delete all the files you need. c) have us send you an already linked image as was told to a customer two months ago (please refer to note 1160.4). Unfortunately whatever problem this customer was running in to 2 months ago is unavailable so not sure what type of error we can resolve with b & c but probably limited to problems creating the shareable image.
