1158.0. "GWY for DB2 Installation experience" by AVMSV1::GEDER (Gottfried Eder) Tue Apr 22 1997 11:08

Hi,

I'd like to ask people who have done it before how long it takes to install
the DB2 gateway and to get it running. We might be able to sell one very soon
if only we set expectations right.

Thanks

1158.1The SNA gateway piece can be time consumingBROKE::GREENTue Apr 22 1997 12:4110
    Hi Gottfreid,

    If the SNA gateway is already working then this is easy from the VMS
    side. If the SNA gateway is a new installation then time will be spent
    gathering different SNA parameters & configuring the SNA gateway, then
    testing connectivity so things will take longer.

    I've never installed the DB2 server software on a mainframe.

I have been involved in such installations a long time ago. I agree with Don
that the major issue is getting the generic SNA connectivity set up (gateway,
communications controller, sna).

Other issues are that this (the SNA side) and the gateway require setup changes
in a number of critical components on the IBM side (including CICS), which
typically can only be done at well defined moments, since they may require the
shutdown and restart of part or all of the mainframe.
