1133.0. "DB2 via TCP/IP?" by 10245::COBROWN (Colin from Danmark) Fri Mar 21 1997 09:28

    Any plans to support access to DB2 via a TCP/IP transport?

    I have a customer using the gateway today via the
    DECnet/SNA LU6.2 product and they would like to use a direct TCP/IP
    connection to the IBM system.

    Any plans in this direction? Or who do I mail for a definative answer?

Not TCP/IP all the way but pretty close.

DEC SNA LU6.2 V2.4 supports TCP/IP as a transport to the DEC SNA Gateway.
If that SNA Gateway is a Domain Server then you hop to the mainframe via
an SNA controlled channel connection. If the Gateway is a Peer Server
then you can use the token ring/FDDI/SDLC to hop to the mainframe.

In other words, TCP/IP is the wide area transport and it's just the last
jump to mainframe which is SNA.

The DBI/DB2 Gateway should be able to use VMS LU62 V2.4 just fine.

1133.2These guys want to go all the way...10245::COBROWNColin from DanmarkTue Mar 25 1997 01:578
    Thanks for the answer.

    But the client is keen to go all the way with TCP/IP and avoid using
    the LU6.2 layer altogether.

    I guess we have no plans for this then?

1133.3No plans right now (wishlisted though)...BROKE::ABUGOVTue Mar 25 1997 08:244

    Sorry Colin, there are no plans currently to support TCP all the way...
