1089.0. "Ordering DBI information needed !" by caotv1.ca.oracle.com::MROY () Thu Aug 15 1996 11:12

Unfortunatly I'm not familiar with the DBI products, so I have a couple
of basis questions. This is more a sales issue but here goes :

Under RDB V6.x , if a customer would like to have access to the
    Distributed
option, Replication option and Integrator Gateways , what should they
    order ?

It seems that the following prodcut is available to order:
Distributed Option for Rdb V3.1A Prod
Parallel Query Option for Rdb V3.1A Prod
DataBase Integrator for Rdb V3.1A Prod

Can they order all of them in a suite ?
Do they have to order these products seperatly ?
I assume that the Replication option is under Distributed Option for
    Rdb ?
Will these products be compatible with RDB V7.0 ?

    And last
Under RDB V7.0 , is the same order/buying scheme applies ?

    Thanks in advance

    Michel

***** Customers that have a valid Oracle Rdb Support contract just
***** need to call 1-800-633-0725, their service rep, not support rep.
***** They justt ask for the Rdb Options, Distributed , Parallel Query
***** and Replication and they will receive the kits FREE. The dbi

1089.2Can call client relations or support tooBROKE::BITHERFri Aug 16 1996 12:0031
Hi,

Supported Rdb customers received a mailer on the Distributed Technology
Suite instructing them to call 1-800-633-0725 (presales) as Steve suggested.
However, we found out from Rdb support management that when customers call
this number they will be directed to call client relations. I just confirmed
this myself by calling 1-800-633-0725. Alternatively, a supported Rdb
customer can call support and ask for the Distributed Technology
Suite. Support has instructions from client relations to log a tar
with the media group to send out these products. The customer can use
the tar number to track the status of the shipment.

So there are actually three alternatives that I know of:

1. Call 1-800-633-0725 who will then direct you to call client relations.

2. Call client relations directly at 1-415-506-1500 or use your Oracle
support number and pick client relations from the menu.

3. Call Rdb support.

Btw, Distributed Option, Parallel Query Option and Replication Option are
free. The Rdb transparent gateways cost $25K for each gateway with the
exception of the Rdb transparent gateway for DB2 which costs $95K.
However, by calling your sales rep you should be able to obtain these
gateways for a free trial. Just this week we had an Rdb customer receive
a CD with the free Distributed Technology Suite (no gateways were included
on the shipment) but by going thru his sales rep we were able to ship him
two gateways for a free trial period.

Well lets see.....this question came about because of customer using
    option 3.

    Mike is Rdb Support

    In CANADA

So the 800 number is probably not very useful, assuming it works (not
all 800 numbers span the border). Don't know if any mailer was sent out
up here. We're assuming the same people who handled all the Rdb contract
issues will be assigned the DBI stuff too. Last we heard, they'd received
nothing (of course, she's on vacation, so we can't ask just now :)

Mike's question sort of came down to, in the current version, do the 3
options come bundled in one package, or are they 3 separate items. In
case we can find somebody in pre-sales or sales, in Canada, who knows
    what we're talking about :)

    there.

distributed and parallel query - 1 kit
    replication - 1 kit

    hope this helps
