1049.0. "METADATA error checks?" by ORAREP::GIDDAY::REINHOLD (Skippy) Mon Apr 22 1996 01:59

    Gidday,

    	I'm not sure if this is a problem/ something that is not yet
    implimented or something that was never imagined.

    I have a customer who is using DBI GW for RMS (V3.0D) and DBI GW (V3.1)
    and are not using the CDD, they have their own METADATA file.

    They couldn't determine why they were getting duplicate columns in
    their reports, and they eventually determined that it was caused by
    duplicate entries in their METADATA file (that they manually
    generated).

    	The customer does accept that it is their responsibility to make
    sure that the manually generated metadata file is correct.

    	However the customer would like to know if there are any plans for
    DBI to do somekind of integrity check on the METADATA file, or if it
    already does? Or why it doesn't duplicate entries as a problem?

    	Any comment/suggestion/recomendations greatly apreciated.

1049.1Could we get a copy of the CDO file?BROKE::WRIGHTNYO&W-Trains Spoken Here-SUSIEQMon Apr 22 1996 11:0614
Hi,

There actually is quite a bit of integrity checking in the CDO Reader metadata
driver. The "C2" debug flag is principally to flush out any problems with the
CDO file.

I don't believe that columns with the same name in the same table
(relation/file) are legitimate. Is this what they mean by duplicate columns? I
would be very interested in getting a copy of their CDO file to see what is
going on. You could mail me a copy at "[email protected]". If they don't
want to release a copy of the original perhaps you could get them to give us a
small sample file that replicates the problem.

    Thanks,
           The customer is not sure if he has kept a copy of the
    METADATA file, though if he does, he'll send it to me so that I
    can forward it to you.
