| Ok, I hope there are some people still reading this notesfile that can give
me some advice.
I am the Best Man of my friend's wedding, which leaves me with the
resposibility of setting up the bachelor party. I asked him to give me the
names of all of his friends. He responded with about 12 names. I know four
of them and the others are his co-workers (all engineers of one type or
another). Now, I don't know what I should do. I am having a hard time
figuring out how to entertain 12 people most of whom I don't know. I don't
want to bore them or offend them. I am thinking in terms of a strip club
(since that's what I understand most bachelor parties go), but I don't know
if they do anything special for a bachelor party.
Basically I am looking for ideas or information about what I should be doing
at this point.
Thanks for any advice,
Brian

| Hi Brian.
The past few bachelor parties I've been to have started out with dinner
at a restaurant and then moved onto the local strip joint, some guy
named Matthew or something like that 8^)
You could always call some of his coworkers and see what they are up
for, perhaps present your idea and see what they all think. They may
have other helpful suggestions from things the bachelor may have told
them at work.
Also, his fiancee may be able to help. She should know what he would
or wouldn't like.
good luck. hope it all goes well.

149.61 | A couple of points to consider... | STAR::DIPIRRO | | Wed Apr 16 1997 10:38 | 15 |
| Plus, Brian, you know the guy and know his likes and dislikes. A
bachelor party is what you make of it. Do what you feel is appropriate
for the groom. Don't necessarily follow tradition or conventions. Think
about how you think he'd like to celebrate his last days of
bachelorhood with his closest friends. Some guys prefer a quieter
evening and are more introspective. Others like a wild party with
strippers, drinking, and heavy barfing.
Something else to consider is how the bride might feel about some
of these plans. If she's going to be extremely upset with him (and you)
over this, it's something to consider. When I got married last summer,
I made sure my friends knew not to plan anything with strippers because
my wife would have been very upset. It's just one of those things that
really bothers her.
So I say plan an evening that you feel is how he'd like to
celebrate.

149.62 | Foxwoods | POWDML::WHEELER | Chickens have no bums | Wed Apr 16 1997 15:06 | 6 |
|
The last 2 I heard about, the future groom was taken to
Atlantic City for the weekend, and the other one, they all
went to Foxwoods - Dinner/Show/gambling all night...
So, there is more to do than just strip joints...

149.63 | Great, now when should it be? | EVMS::BMAN | | Fri May 02 1997 13:57 | 11 |
| Ok, thanks for the opinions about the bachelor party. So the
next questions I have is _when_? I mean how soon before the
wedding should this event be? Someone I asked told me to try
to do it the day and night before the wedding (ie. keep him up
24+ hours). It seems awfully cruel and isn't the rehersal
the day before? Any suggestions for when? The wedding is going
to be on August 10th. A Sunday, if it matters.
Sorry if this question seems stupid.
Thanks,
Brian

In my family the are done around the same time as the bridal
shower, or the bachlorette party... (3 - 4 weeks BEFORE
the wedding)

149.65 | the weekend before perhaps | BRAT::WENSING | | Mon May 05 1997 08:29 | 3 |
| I don't think the night before is a good idea, personally. If the
groom goes to the wedding hungover, he probably won't enjoy himself
very much, neither will his bride, nor the families...

| My husband's bachelor party was on the Wed. night before the wedding
(Sat.). But he also had a very tame party (most of his friends are
female so there wasn't a lot of the raunchy stuff).
