865.0. "Help with Table Formats/Database Text" by KOOLIT::GREENLEAF () Mon Feb 24 1997 14:49

I'm trying to create a template that imports text from a .txt
file generated from a database. I've successfully imported
the text as DATABASE fields into a table. I need to alter
the table format, which I did successfully. However, I can't
figure out how to save the table format. When I update the
fields from a new data file, the table formatting is lost.
I've tried the steps under "Preserving the Table Format" in
Part 8 of Word 6.0 documentation, but they are not clear.

Has anyone been successful with this? Any other ideas on
the best way to import text generated from a database into
    a templated table format?

I assume you're using Access as the database.

I did this same thing a little over a year ago using DDE with Word 6 and Access
(whatever version shipped with word 6/office)

Anyway, we could not get the tables to format consistently for either .txt
file entries or database query entries.

Repeated calls to the Microsmurf's resulted in a resounding DUUUUUH? regarding
DDE issues.

Perhaps you should try formatting the text in the database itself and use OLE to
provide the linkage.

Good Luck.
