| As we all know, VMS mail is quite content to read and display PS mail from
most of the worlds software, as long as the Adobe rules are followed to the
letter.
In the case of MS Word v7.0, I have yet to find an incantation that will
allow a paper to be saved to a PS file from within Word, and still be
displayable with VMS windows mail after having been vms `mailed'.
I have tried the ln03R driver, and the 1152 driver, each enabled to print
to a file. These files are to a pathworks served disk, so are really on a
VMS workstation.
When the files are mailed, and opened in mail, the ps window comes up, with
no text, and then when the second page is opened there is no text but instead
the error message of
This job requires more memory than is available in this printer.
Try one or more of the following, and then print again:
In the PostScript dialog box, click Optimize for Portability.
In the Device Options dialog box, make sure the Available Printer
Memory is accurate.
Reduce the number of fonts in the document.
Print the document in parts.
Since there is only one font in use, no included pictures, and no memory
selections for the two test device drivers, and the document is only a
couple of pages, something else is going on here.
The mail message can be extracted and printed to a DEC 5100, if one has a
printer handy.
Has anyone found the problem with Word 7 and have a solution?
thanks

502.9 | save to local disk, then copy to VMS? | ORION::chayna.zko.dec.com::tamara::eppes | Nina Eppes | Tue Feb 11 1997 13:46 | 6 |
| I have a vague recollection of problems resulting with .PS files saved
directly to network drives from Word. Have you tried saving the .PS file
to your local disk and then copying it (via FTP or whatever) to the VMS
system, and then mailing it?

502.10 | right, tried a few variations | FIEVEL::FILGATE | Bruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452 | Wed Feb 12 1997 08:49 | 9 |
| 1) save to network drive (VMS) and mailed
2) save to PC and copy to network drive
3) save to PC and FTP push to VMS and mailed
I have taken another look / comparison between files that work and files
that do not work. The `work' are all Adobe-2.0, the `no work' are all
Adobe-3.0 from Word.

Running OFFICE 95 under NT will build a PS file with lps20 that is
VMS Motif Mail complient, display is fine.
If the os is changed to Windows 95 from NT, but the office suite held
constant, the PS file is no longer VMS Motif Mail complient, eg mail
open responds with "(This message type cannot currently be displayed.)",
instead of posting the translated PS to the viewing window.
