Just had a coversation with a few folks, and the topic turned to today's enlisted men's uniform. What is the current uniform? Jumper and dixie-cup, or shirt/tie/jacket? Thanks, Lee

FWIW, when I left naval service in 1986 the enlisted uniform consisted of jumpers and dixie cups and the assorted accessories that acompany it. Jim

Enlisted (E1-E6) crew members of the USS BOSTON SSN703 (and her sister ships in Groton) wear jumpers and dixie cups. Art

Okay, let me qualify my statement. E1-E6, when I left in 1986, were wearing the jumpers, dress blues and whites with blue neckerchief, short sleeve white shirts for summer with zip-up trousers, all with the dixie cup. E7-E9 wore the khaki working uniforms and billed cap. Dress uniforms were the dress blues for all occasions and the whites for summer. Black shoes all around except for E7-E9 summer whites, then they wore white shoes. Jim STG1

Thanks, guys. I'm glad to see that the tradition lives on. I'd hate to have a picture at home with me in a damn white shirt and tie. Lee
