1231.0. "Ayreon" by AXPLAB::VLASIU (Sorin Vlasiu - Brussels, Belgium) Wed May 07 1997 09:26

This topic is dedicated to the Dutch band Ayreon.
This seems to be a one man band composed by Arjen Anthony Lucassen.
I have listened "The Final Experiment - A Rock Opera" and I am very
well impressed. The CD was released in 1995 and received very good
reviews. It's a real rock opera composed by Arjen and sung by 13
solists (among them being Lenny Wolf of Kingdom Come). 7 instrument
players, quite much keyboards (a great variety), fine guitars and even
some flute. As you may expect it's classically inspired but still
quite hard/heavy rock globally. The vocals (male and female) are all
    traditional. Fine background vocals also.
An excellent progressive heavy rock CD.
They have released a new one but I don't know how is it.

Are they a white supremist band?

    Re. -1

No link between Arian and Ayreon. Ayreon is the name of the main
character of the rock opera. The subject is quite science fiction.
Somewhere in the future the humanity is in danger to disapear, so they
invent a computer program in order to send telepathy visions and
informations back in time to a guy named Ayreon. And all the story
    turns around this guy.
After two more listens it's really one the very best rock operas ever.
All the 15 parts of the 71+ minutes are great. Much mellotron, moog,
hammond organ, vocorder, piano, other keyboards and great guitar.
Sometimes it may recall Yes, Pink Floyd or Rick Wakeman but it's
allways heavier. And what good vocals and choirs !
    Highly recommended for all !
