My Dying Bride is a Death Metal band which I believe went through a lineup change, at least in the vocals department, unless they stopped processing the vocals to give the death-ish sound they had on the EP's. First one I got of theirs was "Trinity" and it is supposedly their first 3 EP releases together on one disc. One song has clean singing while the rest have the death style vocals. Violins are used through some of the songs which lend to the overall mood. Production could have been better overall except on a couple of the songs (most likely from their latter EP release, but this is a guess). First listening was a surprise to me with the vocals as they are one of the earlier death/doom bands I listened to awhile back! Caught me off guard I guess! I recently picked up their new release "Like gods in the sun" and was surprised that they now have clean vocals on the entire disc. Reminiscent of Anathema with this release, better production, and is quite a good release. If you liked Anathema's "Eternity" release then you would like this one as it is similar with the genre of music they play (doom/doomdeath I guess).

Coming in soon is "Angel and the Dark River" and I am calling Newbury this morning as I saw "As the Flower Withers" and have them reserve it for me. They are quite good for the doom genre imho. The second last track on LGOTS is quite somber/sad, violin and keys and basically a spoken piece, but quite moving! |
