1213.0. "Anathema" by SUBSYS::MSOUCY (MentalmETALMike) Sat Feb 08 1997 07:17

I just recently picked up one of their discs and was prepared for some
heavy death vocals, BUT, I was PLEASANTLY surprised to find the vocals
are basically normal with some upper range in there! I was QUITE
impressed with this disc! The title is "Eternity" and is their latest
release. He kind of reminds me a bit at times of Roger Waters on one or
two tracks with the feelings he is emoting (hard to think of it another
way!). Their have been compared to Paradise Lost or My Dying Bride but
that was why I expected the more brutal vocals. Not so at all on this
one. I understand the guitarist is now the singer and they are moving a
slightly different direction. I find it more of an emotional album
song-wise. Production is ok, some keyboards intersparsed with spoken
word, some female vocals/talking in a few parts, a little harmony
vocals. They are basically a Doom metal band, and in that vein I would
tend to agree. I have spun this thing about 4 times in the past two
days and am really enjoying this disc. Even Slab-man might like this
    disc! ;-)

Their earlier stuff is more doomier with the heavier/death-ish vocals
and heavier music-wise according to Mega (megas page of bands I posted
here awhile back) as I sent him some mail about them and Dominus (in
    that note next).

Good somewhat emotional stuff for the Doom genre. I like it!

This is quite a good release after listening to it some more. Sorin
also heard good things about it.

I have now Eternity and it is excellent. As Mike already wrote, they
recall Roger Waters (and Pink Floyd with RW). It should please many PF
fans. No death vocals, just clear mid-range singing. Definetly a
    keeper.
