1212.0. "Darlahood" by WONDER::REILLY (Sean Reilly, Alpha Servers, DTN 223-4375) Fri Feb 07 1997 09:09

Nobody notes in MUSIC anymore, so I'm putting this here. Any
metalheads looking for honest, hard-working, rock should
    check out this album.

This may be the best album I've bought in the 90's (probably
that nod still goes to Soulhat's "Good To Be Gone," but this
is a much more down-to-earth effort, so not really comparable).

"Big Fine Thing", their debut, is top notch rock and roll. I mean
old Stones, early Aerosmith kind of good. Like what The Black Crowes
*wish* they could make. At times it gets a good sonic blues stomp rock
deal going, but it never strays into cliche's. The hooks are they key
here, riffs that don't go in one ear and out the other, ones that stay
    with you.

Plus, the slower tunes don't get syrupy lame like recent 'Smith and
Crowes ballads. You can tell the writer put some time into the lyrics.

I think "Grow Your Own" was the first single played, with "Sister
    Dementia" scheduled next.

    >>>>>>>>>old Stones

Like "Come On", "It's All Over Now" or "Not Fade Away"
    	kind of old?

If they sound like the Stones, they gotta be good!

Okay, not that "old" Stones, let's call it after the
covers, but before "Sucking in The 70's"...

I think I've heard "Grow Your Own", and as far as I remember I
    	liked it.

    	RE: Stones

I guess "Emotional Rescue" is out of the question, eh?

    >>>>>>>>Emotional Rescue

You could definatly argue that this is not one
of their better efforts, although I always liked
    	"She's So Cold"

Maybe I'll have to pick this one up?

I'm waiting for the standard two song justification.

If "Sister Dementia" (sp?) is cool, I'll pick it up. "Grow your
own" is a great tune! Although when I first heard it, I thought it was
Corrosion of Conformity...I was surprised to hear it was Darlahood.

"Grow Your Own" is actually not even one of the best tunes, imo.

"Sister Dimentia" is what I'd call a good slower song.

The title cut is pretty decent, reminding me of some of the heavier
stuff Urge Overkill did. "99% Bulletproof" is a full blown stomper,
but with great melodies - it reminds me a lot of Raging Slab's
DMBC CD. "I Got Pictures" is rowdy jangler that I happen to like
humming to myself all day. That song leads into a chunky jam called
"RSVP" that is great at high volumes.

1212.7BUSY::SLABDo you wanna bang heads with me?Fri Feb 07 1997 13:147

Well, as long as I don't forget to buy it AGAIN, I should have
    	it tonight.

I want to pick up the new Offspring album also, since I'll be
    	there anyways.

1212.8BUSY::SLABGo Go Gophers watch them go go go!Mon Feb 17 1997 12:1211

Well, I did buy it the week before last, and have heard it twice
through so far ... all I can say so far is "Eh". It's not too
    	bad, but it's no mind-blower.

The 1st 2 songs had some major Masters of Reality overtones, more
than Raging Slab, I thought. But there was some RS similarity in
some of this stuff ... it's got a southern sound to it.

I'll give it another listen, definitely.
