| I hate this band. Don't get me wrong, their music's fine. They cancelled on
the morning of a show in Montreal because of "tax problems". Nothing like
waiting until the last minute. I'd gotten the day off from work, even got that
funny colored Candadian money. Had to exchange it back and lost 5% each way.
This was their spaceship tour.

done with string instruments instead of guitars and Marshalls.

talent nowadays that we have to resort to THIS?

I've seen ELO twice live and left early both times (they were the
second band on the billing). I found them really listless live
especially when they played after Kansas on tour two summers ago.

| Geez...Now I really regret starting this topic....
I guess we SHOULD stick to more of a " Metal " theme....I'm sorry.
I just thought that since ABBA, Prince, & some other non-metalists
were in here, I might as well add E.L.O..... Oh well...

1163.15 | Despite the title, this IS the "MUSIC" notesfile | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | The moment is a masterpiece | Fri Jun 21 1996 12:06 | 19 |
| Regarding "sticking to metal"...
I think some of you may have forgotten or never been aware of some of
the history of this file.
It was started partially because Metal fans were getting blasted by
by folks in the MUSIC notesfile. I think this notesfile started out
partially as a "refuge" from folks putting down H_M in the MUSIC
conference.
Ultimately, *I* came to think of this file as the "real" MUSIC
notesfile where you could talk about any kind of music without
getting overly abused for it (of course, we do our share of
lighthearted abuse...).
db
p.s. There still is a MUSIC notesfile, but its half-dead. About
1/20th of the activity H_M gets.

| HOOPLE::FENNELL | Yuri! quit smooshing packages | Fri Jun 21 1996 12:18 | 10 |
| I agree with Dave. I know more people in this notesfile than anywhere else. I
don't always agree with opinions in here but I have learned about some pretty
good stuff from reading recommendations in here.
I remember Bob Mercier talking about Rage Against the Machine a long time before
any radio station dared play them.

| Somehow the "your music isn't as good as mine" type stuff in here just
seems to have a whole lot less of an edge behind it than what went
on in the MUSIC notesfile.

| Don't forget that the formation of EHM (from the infamous "cookster")
was started because he didn't like hearing about bands like ELO
in here... Thats when we fired his ass from moderator-ship.

1163.19 | ELO drummer? | ICS::CLELAND | | Fri Jun 21 1996 14:12 | 13 |
| Someone is showing their age...
What the heck is the drummer's name, he helped out Black Sabbath
when Bill Ward had cancer and couldn't go on tour.
This is a test, name the ELO drummer, and the Black Sabbath
album and tour. A correct answer will instantly prove you're more
than 30 yrs old.
That was the year when they found Carmine Appice's little brother,
Vinnie, who had just recorded on a solo LP with Rick Derringer.
Black Sabbath then recorded Mob Rules with Vinnie on drums.

The ELO drummer's initials are B.B.

| Biff Bruford? Now THAT'S funny, I'm in a YES tribute band, can't
wait to tell 'em about that one...
Barnacle Bill? naw, he was a sailor...
It was *Bev Bevan*
I'd say ELO was a part of Rock & Roll history, Metal has its
roots in R&R...
As for Cozy Powell, yes, he toured with Sabbath 4-5 years ago,
I saw them at the Orpheum in Boston. Geezer Butler was there.
Cozy is amazing, he was the original drummer for Rainbow, he's
played with ELP, Emerson, Lake & Powell (Imagine trying to fill
Carl Palmer's shoes), played with Black Sabbath, recorded solo
LP's with Gary Moore on guitar, some of the most smokin' guitar
solos I've ever heard from Gary...
