1156.0. "Tiamat - Wildhoney = Excellent pick!" by SUBSYS::MSOUCY () Mon Jun 03 1996 06:48

    This is a note for a new (not really new, but new to me) band I picked
    up with the recommendation of a dude at my local Newbury Comics called
    Tiamat. Two guys on bass and guitar, good amount of keys for some
    ambience, but they are pretty heavy! Doom genre but with some HEAVY
    bass and drum lines! My favorite tune is # 2 titled "Whatever That
    Hurts" and has both guys doing vocals, one lighter the other HEAVY and
    it KICKS BUTT!

    They have about 5 discs out, of which one is live. I have heard of them
    before but I REALLY like this cd! Once I heard the second vocalist kick
    in I had to start the song over because I liked it! Been playing this
    disc all weekend. If you like some heavy music in the doom-ish genre
    but with some good lighter vocals and keyboards, classical style guitar
    and other ambience (rainfall/thunder) you might enjoy this disc.

1156.1And I'm not a die-hard metalhead.RTOEU::RWINTERMon Jun 03 1996 08:3912
    I agree. "Wildhoney" is terrific! BTW it was elected album of the
    year (=1994) by the readers of Rock Hard (best german HM magazine),
    and after 2 years, it's still in their monthly "Readers Charts".

    Discography: Sumerian City (1990)
                 The Astral Sleep (1991)

    What do you recommend next? Clouds? I may have to order it! I really
    really like this new one!

1156.3Buy the "live" album..KAOFS::C_MENENDEZCARLOS, SOO ONT MCS (705)945-7862Mon Jun 03 1996 15:249
    	Mike:

    	Pick up the Sleeping Beauty. It's live in Israel and IMO it's their
    absolute best.

    	I have them all, and the live album blows everything else out of
    the sky.

1156.4Order from Century MediaKAOFS::C_MENENDEZCARLOS, SOO ONT MCS (705)945-7862Mon Jun 03 1996 15:275
    	BTW, the best prices tfor iamat and any other Century Media bands
    are directly from CM. They are supposed to come up with a new catalog
    next month, which should include a new Tiamat plus the new Grave.

    	Carlos
1156.5Cool! Web page for CM?SUBSYS::MSOUCYTue Jun 04 1996 06:3813

    Carlos,

    Is there a web pointer for CM? And what does Grave sound like? I'll
    almost bet death type music eh?! Are you connected to the Mega band
    list on the web? Bands from A-Z and some info on them via other
    pointers, it is pretty big! That is where I find some of these groups
    other than in here or one of the alt.r-n-r.metal/heavy news groups.

    Thanks in advance! I've heard about CM I think in here or in the net.

    Mike

1156.6CM (310)574-7400KAOFS::C_MENENDEZCARLOS, SOO ONT MCS (705)945-7862Tue Jun 04 1996 07:4825
    	Mike:

    	Actually, I don't think CM has a web page. Call them at
    (310)574-7400x116 (mark) for info and catalogs.

    	On the last one I have, The Astral Sleep, Clouds and Wildhoney are
    listed at $10. Sleeping Beauty is $8 ($9 if you want the digipack), and
    Gaia is $10 (Digipack).

    	Grave is pretty much death metal, you are right. If you liked Wild
    honey you might like Amorphis last 2 CDs (tales from the 1000 lakes and
    Elegy).

    	I am not connected to the Mega Band list, do you have a pointer?
    Most stuff I look for I rely on Altavista to provide me with pointers.

    	Word of caution. IMO, Wildhoney is a change in direction for
    Tiamat. In the previous releases the sound is definitely heavier, with
    the gutural voice dominating the scene. But they are still very, very
    good. I'm sure you'll like them.

    	Good luck on your purchases..

    	Carlos
1156.7here's the pointer!SUBSYS::MSOUCYTue Jun 04 1996 11:1010

    Here is the pointer to the megalist band listing:

    http://www.lut.fi/~mega/muzac/bands.html

    A through Z for band listings and a lot of pointers to web pages from
    it also. A must for all who are into metal/heavy music!!
