Front Row for Van Halen in '79 in Springfield, actually, it was a
general admission show and we got there around 12:30 pm! Partied/hung
around all day.....got down the the barrier, hooked our arms over it,
watched the show (forget who opened for them back then, must not have
been good!)...by the end of the show we were all still dead center but
about 40 ft back! Crowd was UNBELIEVABLE! Everyone and their brother
trying to get to the front, we busted the barrier, they stopped the
show, etc... It was an okay show though for VH. Eddie lighting his
drums on fire, about the only pyrotechnics there...light show was ok...

Hmm, Rush '79, 3rd row balcony in Music Hall, Yes in the Gahden 6th
    row! GREAT seats!

| | I had my elbows on the barrier in front of the stage for Rush twice (Farewell to
Kings and Hemispheres tours) at the Montreal Forum. I was quite close to front
row for Styx during their Crystal Ball tour when they played Memorial Auditorium
in Burlington Vt. I was close to the front for Elvis Costello at the gym at UVM
during the tour for his second (?) album.
It's very hard to get near the front row now unless you're willing to pay $$$.

| | I saw Metallica on their Live Sh*t tour back in '94 at Keene, NH.
It was general admission. Danzig and Suicidal Tendancies opened
up for them. It was just a big mess of people moshing around.
At one point I think I got 20ft from the stage before being stomped
on by some 6'+ guys. It was a good show but I thought it'd be
better. That was the concert where Jason Newstead passed out
while playing (I forget what song) but they had to break for
10 minutes to wait for him to get his senses back. He said he must
be getting old and not able to headbang as much as he used to.

Shane, who didn't like their medley of Justice too much...I would
have rather them played the songs straight through than bunch
them up and only play parts of them...

| | I actually managed to get to the front row of the Monsters of Rock show
in the Los Angeles Coliseum. We hung out there through the start of
Metallica and then when the Apes started pitching the metal chairs
around we backed off. But we made it back up for the end of Dokken and
Scorpions. Man it was hot that day! My dimwit buddie brought his
girlfriend and she ended up losing a shoe in the melee!

Got front row for The Cult/Bonham in San Diego Arena. (Sonic Temple tour)

Got into the 6th row for Queensryche in San Diego Arena. (Empire tour)

Got tickets from a scalper for 1 of 5 GNR shows in the Los Angeles
Forum, All were sold out, BEFORE Illusion I & II came out. They weren't
front row, but the were club seats which included bar service to your seat
and a free program! Sat beside Axl's lawyer's associate. This was one
of the shows where Axl showed up finally at 1130 P.M. Show lasted
until 2 A.M. Skid Row rocked as the opener!

Front row, well more like pinned against the barrier for:
Skid Row
Dio
Cheap Trick
Metallica (monsters of rock....lost position once the fire hose came out)
All general admission.
I find it very hard if at all possible to buy front row reserved seating.
It seems you either have to know someone, win them or pay some serious
bucks for them.
I did see Sammy Hagar solo about 5 rows back....great show, Krokus
was supposed to open up but they bagged so Hagar played a little extra.
My friend threw his student ID card up on stage and Sammy picked it
up, read it to the crowd and then laughed saying "this guy looks like he
should be in the white house".

I had loud ringing in my ears for at least 3 days afterwards,
and some fainter rining for several more days after that.
And while this isn't front-row per-se since there were no rows,
but what they used to call festival seating (the type of seating
I believe that those kids got trampled to death at a Who concert
a couple of years before), I literally got pushed to the very front
(right up to the barricade) at a Aerosmith concert. What a rip
off that show was, it was while they were still on drugs, I could
see right into Tylers eyes that he was not home mentally, and they
played for *less* than an hour. Also ended up leaving drenched in
sweat that wasn't mine. A friend of mine also got pushed up front
with me, but toward the side next to some kids smoking pot. My
friend got stoned on the 2nd hand smoke alone.
And while this next one is almost as far as you can get from
Heavy Metal, I also got front row at a Dolly Parton concert
in Vegas. That distance was probably too close given the amount
of makeup she wears (ie. the makeup is too obvious closeup).

great deal...sometimes they just herd all the backstage pass "radio" winners
