| Sladest was a great album. Mine is so worn out I don't play it much anymore it
is so scratchy. That was one of the albums even my hard-rock friends couldn't
deal with. Noddy Holder's voice must have filled the halls they played in.
Good balance in the band - no superstars, but a good concept and they played off
of each other.
I have an album called Slade Alive. Maybe I can make a tape of it. It has a
Rulin' Version of Born to be wild. Towards the end they start up a siren that
makes the sirens in Jailbreak (Thin Lizzy) or Firehouse (KISS) sound weak...

| I remeber reading once that " Slade In Flame " was a MOVIE.
Sorta like a Slade version of " Tommy " or something.
I would do just about ANYTHING to see it !!!!! It was done in 1976 or
'77 I believe. I wonder if it's on video.

| You might want to check some of the places in Cambridge. I found a place that
sells lots of "import" cds and videos. Sounds like they could order it if they
didn't have it.
CDNOW is another good source. Shawn, was that the name of the place you ordered
from? They have all sorts of obscure stuff.

some of their vinyl with CD's myself.

| Hi all,
Unfortunately I believe the band have now split up. Last I heard,
Noddy holder was hosting a radio show in the Wolverhampton (Midlands,
UK) and two of the others had formed a 'Slade 2' type band and were
touring Europe.
I remember the band from the early 70's when my brother had all their
singles/albums (still has, but looking a bit tatty now!).
I saw them live in Reading in 1980, where I believe part of the 'Slade
Alive' album was recorded (check the sleeve) and they were excellent!
Only trouble was that I could'nt hear properly for the next couple of
days :-)
Last time they were in the charts over here was '92-ish with 'Radio
Wall of Sound', where Jim Lea took lead vocals. This single was a
prelude to the release of 'Wall of Hits', but the follow up single
failed to have any success and I've heard nothing since.
Will they perform again? I certainly hope so!
Cheers
Julian

I'm sure Slade will make an appearance in the future.Old bands have a
habit of resufacing(sp)for a "get together" tour.

They at one point had, and may still hold the record for
longest running band *without* a line-up change.

1141.21 | Slade CD re-releases | WOTVAX::DAVIESG | Guy Davies | Tue May 14 1996 06:26 | 16 |
| If anyone is interested, nearly all the Slade albums have been
re-released on CD in the UK (where's the vinyl re-release, bloody CDs).
This includes the first Ambrose Slade album and right the way through
their run of major British success (they were the biggest band in
Britain '71-'74). I think I've even seen "Slade in Flame" and "Til'
deaf us do part" (my favourate!, next to "Slade Alive" and "Slayed").
By the way "Slade Alive" was recorded in 1971, just after the
"shinhead" look had grown out, and the 1980 Reading releases were the
singles "Gypsy Roadhog" and "Merry Christmas Everybody" (credited to
SLade and the Reading Choir, if memory servers me right!).
Slade II are touring and have an album out (end of '95), not seen in
any shops though!
