So, Dave, tell us more about 'em. I already told you I've only heard

| Back when I was on my marathon Dream Theater multi-state gig tour,
Marilyn Manson was playing all the same clubs as DT -- only days
before or after (similar tour schedule, I guess?!).
Never hear of these guys before, but I though they had an interesting
"look" from the posters hanging up at the clubs. Sort of like NIN
meets the vampyre gothic scene.
Although I had seen chat rooms on AOL about MM, which touted them as
an industrial band, I *finally* heard a song and have to admit I was
rather unimpressed. They didn't strike me as industrial at ALL?!?
Their song also didn't really catch my ears. STill, the marketing of
the band looks pretty appealing.

The music is an attempt at satanity (sic). At least the monikers are.
It's not EZ listening, again as mentioned before, lots of people
put them in the same fold as NiN, I don't personally because I think
Trent has more natural energy and aura. MM is into childish pranks
and seems to try to appeal to the younger (much) audience. Trent
is much more advanced than that, although the younger audience throws
their lust at him, especially female types.

| OK, MM.
I first saw them at the Boston Garden open up for NIN.
They put on a pretty good show, but it was also pretty tame for them.
Me and my friends bought the CD and were blown away. The first song,
"cake and sodomy" is the best, but I like all of them. Well, they
headlined at the Middle East in Cambridge in Feb,95 so we saw them in a
club setting, and it was the best (and most violent) show I've been to.
Monster Voodoo Machine opened up, so the pit was good and warm for MM.
An interesting side note, my friend and I went to the bathroom before
MM went on and a guy with blue hair came in, looked in the mirror and
made a comment about he had too much mascara on, it ended up being
Twiggy Ramirez. The crowd was pretty much divided in 3: a) the curious
who had heard MM and decided to check it out, b) the hard core MM fans
decked out in black lipstick and dresses for both male and female, and
c) the frat type who like to go to pits to try to be involved in what
they see as senseless violence. MM hit the stage and everything
erupted. The band exposed themselves, some of the crowd exposed
themselves, some of the crowd participated in sex acts with the band,
some of the crowd participated in sex acts with the crowd, Mr. Manson
beat the living whatever out of some guy who jumped on stage. There was
more blood and snot and body fluid than you've ever seen. It's probably
the best show I've been to since House of Pain/Cypress Hill.
MM put out a new record, but it's just cheesy mixes of old songs. I
will definitely go see them again. I heard you can't buy their albums
in the UK.

It's only poison if you have an allergic reaction to the ink, which is
really bad news. I believe the body is a beautiful thing worthy of
being decorated by beautiful pictures. As long as the ink means
something to you , and you don't get a picture of the taz wearing an

They really don't hurt that much. Maybe because you hear all your

Ian, you're beginning to sound like Buck...
Tattoos, body piercing: first steps toward self mutilation.
I've always believed one can do anything they want in this
world, just don't harm your fellow man (person). You like
mutilating yourself, go right ahead.
My opinion about satanic lyrics has changed drastically
since the mid-late 80's, when Slayer was king.
Boils down to this, if you like death so much, fine.
Leave the rest of the world to those who enjoy life, and
would like to enjoy living life.
Just a couple of opinions, nothing else...

| Since I went home there has been nothing but nasty things about MM.
Ripping off Alice Cooper? What alice did was a tepid bowl of soup
compared to what MM is doing now. Mister Manson is an ordained Minister
in Anton Lafabre's Church of Satan. I myself am a Christian, and these
guys can worship whoever they want, the music's good. Mutilation,
matter of opinion, I feel, as I've said before, that I'm decorating my
body. I wouldn't pierce anything important, such as tongue, lip, or
(gulp) THAT, but I have my nipple, belly button, and ears done. I would
like to do my eyebrow, but I don't think it would fit the image I'm
forced to portray here, which is why I don't wear my earrings. As far
as my tattoos, I won't ever get anything I can't hide with a short

re: -1
Tattoos...lesse, I've got Savatage HOTMK on his throne on one side of
my upper back (not really big) and an eagles head on the other side,
I've got a dragon/snake fighting on right shoulder, pirates head with
eye patch over crossed swords on left should, nickname with added
lightning bolt on left arm, sunset w/little birdy squiggly lines on
right arm, and eagle on top of dagger with ribbon wrapped around it
with "death before dishonor" on the ribbon (oldest one, since 1981).
No new ink on my mind yet, but I'd love to have "The Spawn" done in one
of his poses like on edge of rooftop!
As for Marylin Manson, I've heard them, they are a bunch of freaky
looking dudes, that's for sure! They didn't do anything for me
musically at all. There was another band that had a demo out last year
but can't think of their name, they do a cover of Princes "Nikki" with
some cool vocals to "then nikki started to GRIND"! You have to hear it
to understand how it sounds! I wish I could think of who this is, they
sounded pretty good!
MM can go disappear in my opinion, and I agree they are doing stuff AC
did 20 yrs ago, just more sickening!

My theory of "art" is that it is meant to be seen. Take pride in your

summer , if any shirt at all.
However, unfortunately we live in a world where being tattood causes
one to have all kinds of stereotypes put on them. If I'm at the beach,
I share your "who cares"attitude, but a lot of people find them
inappropriate in a business atmosphere.
When I get tattood, I spend a lot of time making sure it isn't
something I'll regret later. If I go to a job interview and don't get
hired because of a picture, I would regret that picture. I wish it
wasn't this way, but it is
BTW- what is the picture of that your wife doesn't like? My girlfriend

| How do you equate a scar (injury) with a picture intentionally placed
on the skin? I really think you picture people with tazmanian devils
or Mickey Mouse or a big scratchy cross when you think of tattoos. I
looked for the design I wanted for around 6 years before getting it.
I'm not one of those people who went to a parlor the day they turned 18
and picked a skull off the wall.
By the by, scarification is actually a little trendy now in the NYC
club scene. Otherwise known as branding, the artist heats up a metal
plate (called a striker) and strikes as many as 1,000 times until the
desired design comes out. The popularity began with African American
fraternities, and athletes such as Michael Jordan, Mo Vaughn, and
others have them. I don't necessarily think scarification is that
attractive, but if you want to tell Mo Vaughn it's foolish go ahead.

re: .77
I am proud of the ones I have but I also share the feeling that if you
go for a job interview and they "see" them it could put a bias against
you. I am not "hiding" them. They are where they are because I so chose
to have them put there. I wear tank tops (normal/semi-muscle style) as
much as possible outside of work. Can't wear them here, which is ok, I
sometimes bring in a t-top and put it on before I head out the door. I
have gotten a few head turns, but that's how it goes most of the time.
If they haven't seen the one on my forearm, like in winter time wearing
long-sleeve shirts, they don't realize I have any until it is t-shirt
time!
I agree if someone doesn't like them, TOO BAD! It IS on MY body, and
yes I will have to wear them till I am shriveled and dead, but I chose
it!

| They started calling me Lunchbox in SOAPBOX, I think there was another
Dave or something.
Yeah, he's pretty scarred and tattoo'd. At the show I saw he broke a
light bulb on his chest, mind you it was plugged in. Their whole thing
is how scary they are. They're pretty good at it.

"sweet dreams", they did a lot better than the eurythmics. It's good
music, regardless of what you think of their stage show.

| Everyone should stop comparing MM with Annie Lennox and the New York

They should not be judged on one cover of a cheezy song. I wonder if
they did the song for the sake of parody. I like it anyway.

I think Marilyn Manson is most def. an acquired taste. I've listened
to the CD a few times and I can't seem to get enough of it. If you can
get over some of the lyrical content and skip through all the weird
crap thrown in for theatrics, it's pretty good. Of course we're
talking about Portrait of an American Family. I have the other one and
it's really hard to bare...there are a few really good spots, but most
of it is just filler stuff and clips of different conversations with
a little backwards masking thrown in for shock value.
It's a good CD to party too, anyway. 8) Friday night I went to this
club and I asked the engineer/DJ guy if he could play a song for me in
between sets and he played the whole CD until the next band came on!!!
It sounds really good loud, obviously. 8)))

Anyone seem the new Aerosmith video?? Is Steven Tyler ripping off
the Reverend Marilyn Manson or WHAT?!!
Don't agree? Look at the video next to a cover of MM's SLC cover
(Marilyn in Dope Hat) and then tell me you don't agree.
Plagarism aside, anyone see MM and Twiggy666 at the Howard Stern
movie premier in NYC?

| Haven't seen the new Aerosmith vid. What's the name of the song?
I saw some of Howard's party, but apparantly missed MM. Boo!
I think the thing I like most about Marilyn is all the different
influences I hear in their music. I swear I heard Steven Tyler in
"I Put a Spell on You" from the Lost Highway soundtrack. You know,
that "Aaaackaaackyaaaack" sound Steven emits so prolificly?
So, I guess it wouldn't suprise me if Steven was mimicking Marilyn in
return, afterall.

is causing all the hubbub, plus I don't think they're all that talented
(oops! Now twister ~pril will be on me about some of the bands I am
more into! I heard MM, didn't care for them, heard Ugly-Mustard, didn't
much care for them either, but I don't slam 'em like I do MM cuzz I
just plain can't STAND MM and the losers in the band! ;-)

| Finally saw the video for "Beautiful People"
wow
It's as deranged and disturbing as the "Sweet Dreams" video, only leaves
out the farm animals (which I appreciated).
Say what you want about MM, but he makes Alice Cooper's best schlock
look like a kid in a $1.49 plastic Casper halloween mask; definitely
some phenomenal creativity goes into these videos, they are genuinely
frightening

are sick.
