I'd like to know, also, since I just ordered the new CD without
hearing anything besides "Lump". But by ordering this 1, I got
to go through the "$1.99" section and pick out a bunch of those
as well.

| When I first saw the video for Lump.... I almost clicked it....
I wanted to click it. They looked like a band that I would definately
click. The repetitious nonsense lyrics sounded like something that I
would usually click....
BUT... the song was catchy! I had to let it play through, just to hear
what the song was like. And when it ended, I found myself thinking
"man, that was too short, I was just starting to get into it!"
Then, the more I heard the song on the radio, the more I liked it even,
until I couldn't get it out of my head!
Then I heard Kitty. Didn't know who it was at first, but I immediately
wanted to click it again. It sounded real dumb at first, but when the
chorus came in, I found it very catchy!
Again, at the end of the song, I thought it was too short. Then they
said it was P.O.T.U.S.A. I was dumfounded! How could such a band
write songs that I would find so catchy!?
I don't know. All I know is, I like em!
How are the other songs on this album?

herpes is catchy too ! I dunna know. That kitty song bugs the hell
out of me. But like you, when it comes on I don't click it. I usually
just continue to complain about how stupid the meow part is and keep
complaining and becoming irate until the song ends.
funny thing though about those really catchy tunes is that they
usually become very overplayed and you begin to hate them after a
month or two. Sometimes I think bands write songs to be 'catchy'
so they can maximize the airplay and get everyone all buzzed to go
and buy the cd which is usually filled with crap. But I guess that's
smart business. I guess ... I wouldn't know ... I'm a musician ...
and only a part time one at that :)

Make sure that your farts cannot be interpretted as having any meaning
and that the farts are repetitive and easy. I wouldn't diverge to
much from the D and G chord farts. This way your fart song will
be mundane and catchy...something that people will love and appreciate
over the radio...i'm not sure if you'll be able to tour with it though.
Unless your farts are the loud kind that don't smell.

But the fact remains, they are signed...
Music is a business, the art of success in this business is
to convince a record company you have a product, and that

I want to succeed in the music business, not stay in my

why not look for an outlet...
Most people would pass up the opportunity to join a band
like POTUSA? I would've shown up at the auditions with

But would you risk 'integrity' just to get on a record label?
I mean, POTUSOA is *obviously* a novel band -- a one-hit wonder,
if you may. They'll enjoy the success of this album, maybe even
two, but they just don't have what it takes for longevity. Plus,
they're more of a flash-in-the-pan band, and the novelty of them
WILL wear off.
So, what I'm trying to so is -- would you stick your name with a
band like that which you know has a doomed existance, JUST to get
it on a CD? I think, in some ways, saying yes is counter productive
to your cause.
Case in point -- Al Pitrelli .. an old Berklee buddy who is one BURNING
friggin guitar player!!! He ranks right up there with Vai and Satriani!
BUT -- look at his track record...
- Guitarist for Alice Cooper
- Guitarist for Dee Snyder
- Guitarist for Asia
- Guitarist for Savatage
He's gone on some serious auditions (like for Ozzy's band), and NOT
gotten the gig -- why?
One, people don't think highly of who he's played with in the past.
Two, the number of different bands he's played with who have not
enjoyed any _real_ success.
So, it's not that this cat can't play -- he can play circles around
any of the guitarists in any of the big league bands (PJ, etc.), but
what has it got him? A gig with Savatage -- a band which lives in
relative obscurity!

| Since I started this topic, I'll continue the rathole. Although
the Kitty song did get a reaction from everyone, good or bad
it got a reaction.
*
Holy smokes, I never knew Al played with Asia, or Alice. That's
quite a resume, I'd be amazed to think that kind of experience
would jeapordize an audition. I'd wonder that Ozzy was looking
for a particular style. He has been spoiled with Randy Rhodes,
Brad Gillis, Jake E Lee, and Zakk Wylde.
Al is an amazing player, I was able to warm up for Dee Snyder's
Widowmaker last year with Twisted Fate at the Rockpile (which
became the Red Square, which fizzled out).
Widowmaker had Joe Franco on drums, formerly of Twisted Sister,
(he filled in after AJ Pero). Before them he played with Good
Rats (which were a great band), who I first saw warming up for
Rush at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, NY. You'd have to
know the two bands, the Good Rats and Twisted Sister were in
competition for the east coast back in the mid-to-late 70's
early 80's. Good Rats never found true National exposure as
'Sister did, although Good Rats were a better band IMHO.
Having never spoken to Joe, I'd assume he took the paying gig
with 'Sister when the opportunity came up. Twisted Sister since
folded, Dee went on to found Widowmaker, and Joe again went for
the paying gig. If he's a free agent now he should have offers
waiting for him, the guy is amazing.
I've also warmed up for Savatage 5 years ago when I played with
Wicked Lester at a club up north, on the boardwalk of Salisbury
Beach, MA. I can't remember the name, a large hanger type venue,
but obviously Al wasn't with them at the time.
I won't mention the latest venture...
I wonder if that's enough rathole for the moderators?

Track 5, I believe called "Boll Weevil", is meandering into

quite funky and catchy.

original. O

p.s. Oh ya, I would cross-post the note in which Shawn used the word

confrerence is supposed to be about music anyway.

These guys are funny. I don't take their music seriously, nor should
anyone else. These days it's refreshing to hear weird/funny/makes no
sense lyrics instead of the world is coming to an end/all the
politicians are crooks/save the whales lyrics that every other band
sings about.
'Lump' is a cool tune and so is 'Peaches'. However the 'Kitty' song
does get a little annoying.... just a little.

| Founded on the premise that a good time is the only kind worth having,
The Presidents of the United States of America draw
on the three great verities of rock 'n' roll -- fun, fun, and fun -- to
deliver a 13-point State-Of-The-Union message full of
foot-stompin' glee and shoutin'-in-the-shower melodies.
"We are entertainers," said President Dave in an interview with Cake,
"not artists." And it is this populist sentiment, this
We-The-People vibe, that makes the Presidents' live shows so
overwhelmingly democratic. Always unpredictable and only
barely-planned, The Presidents' gigs range from unapologetically
chaotic to transcendental shambles to peaks of egalitarian
ecstasy. By turning their "mistakes" into "songs," letting the audience
sing the words, dancing with abandon, smiling a lot, the
Presidents of the United States of America communicate the sheer
unbridled joy of rock 'n' roll and life itself. Writing
catchy, accessible music and delivering it with conviction, these
Presidents are finally giving people what they really want.

Naw, of course not...
It's the oldest debate topic in the musical world:
That band sucks!
no they don't!
yes they do!
no they don't!
Opinions are just that, opinions.
And other replies in this topic have stated that this band
is crap, period, "If it looks and sounds like @*%$, it is".
In their opinion, it is/// In mine, if it's good enough
for my cat, it's good enough for me. Although we don't
share the litter box, or the Friskies Buffet...
My cat actually responds to the first couple of meows when
she hears the song.

Sometimes you've gotta wonder why they pick certain songs to
be singles. "Peaches" wouldn't have been my next pick, for

There's no rhyme or reason with this band!
A song about peaches, and a video that degenerates into a
martial arts battle between the band members and some Ninjas.
Why? Who knows...

| I finally got a chance to see these guys live...
The WBCN River Rave, saturday night, Great Woods, Mansfield, MA.
These guys aren't bad, not blazing musician's, but by far
they put on the best show of the night.
The drummer is a nut, no tom-tom's, just a bass drum, snare drum,
and a floor tom. Looked like a pair of 12" crash cymbals, a ride,
and toys rack mounted where the tom-tom would normally be. And,
he's a left-handed player, with the hi-hat on the left side and
the floor tom on the right.
They played all their "classics", kitty, lump, peaches, just
about everything off the record.
They were worth the 45-mile ride to Great Woods, I also caught
CRACKER, they hit the stage at 10 pm. Not half as entertaining
as the PotUSA, but I never realized how many songs of theirs
are on the radio. I recognized five of the songs, although I
never even knew they were cracker tunes.
