| I saw a show on PBS (I think) a month or so ago, and I was pretty
impressed. Your description is dead on. For some reason I thought
Kitaro was some new-age noodler, if you know what I mean. I actually
like some new-age, but Kitaro was _much_ better.

HM?! FWIW, Marty Friedman, guitars Megadeth, did a solo project
entitled "Scenes," where he employed Kitaro as producer.

I have an older Kitaro, I think "Astral Dreams" or something like that
and he CERTAINLY was NOT heavy metal! He is more new age style music.
Very different from HM. I haven't followed his stuff since that one
tape, I was on my "new age" binge. I still listen to it occasionally,
along with my LARGE Tangerine Dream collection! I would have to hear
this new one to see this "David Gilmour" stuff. I will be surprised if
he changed THAT much!

| Wouldn't argue the NA thing, as the influence is definitely there.
Never heard of him or his earlier work, prior to this purchase. Kitaro
won't be confused with Satriani, Friedman, et al. His sound & style of
playing CAN be confused with Gilmour. I listened to it again last
night (better the 2d time) and the similarity is real strong.
NA people will probably find too much edge (relatively speaking) ---
unless they also like Gilmour's style. Then again, The Division Bell
isn't a good example of HM either (JMO). Both CD's are somewhere in a
transitional area.
Look forward to more opinions of his work and this CD!

When I saw the special on I think early last year he had an american
musician, and two others from somewhere around the world. I don't
recall seeing him play guitar.....he had a huge gong or drum (I mean
HUGE) that he was pounding on with big mallet type instruments of
sound, can't think of a better way to describe it! Long long hair, he
is about 40-ish I think or older. He has a lot of stuff out. I just
never got into the baby gurgling on one of his tunes on an older cd,
his child was of course doing the gurgling! ;-)

| Well, I can tell you that Kitaro is NOT heavy metal. It's spacy new-age music,
with perhaps some progressive elements for the Pink Floyd/Ash Ra Temple crowd.
But he is an incredibly talented muscician!
