| Muchmusic is good, but not as good as it used to be. Many years ago, a
real good VJ named J.D. Roberts was the main guy. He jumped to the U.S.
to do real news. He's a reporter for CBS now and he's known as John
Roberts. There used to be a show called 'Power Hour' and he was the
host. The only one to ask intelligent questions too.
Nowadays however, things are turning more to the teenybopers and dance
music buffs.
Special programs like Power 30 and the Wedge would be more to the
liking of most noters here. They do have interesting shows like 'Clip
Trip' where you get to see music from all over the world. ( I don't
know if MTV does the same.)
On weekends, they have 'Start Me Up' which is straight ahead
rock-n-roll.
There is a French station called Musique Plus which is good too, if you
can get through the language. It's the same thing, only for the French
population of Canada.
All in all if any of you can get Muchmusic you won't be disappointed.

| Gee I find this really funny, cause after living in Cali for 6 years
and having MTV, then coming back up north to MuchMusic.......I say you
guys down south have the better end of the stick. That is unless the
Headbangers Ball is no longer.
MUCH plays WAY too much Canadian music (not very patriotic of me) and
IMHO most of it is CRAP!! Mind you I havn't seen MTV for about 3 years
now, so I assume it has changed.
Either way unlike my cohort (re:-1) I say if you don't get it....Don't
go changing cable companies just to see it.

| RE: Paully and Dave,
Well, I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the
fence ... but I can tell you that MTV has gone right down the shitter,
esp. in the last couple of years.
HBB -- it's only on once a week, and in the middle of the damn night
(midnight)! Also, they don't play much obscure metal videos -- they
play AC/DC, Iron Maiden and all the "popular" bands and their "hit"
videos.
What I liked about Muchmusic was that the Power 30 was on prime time,
everyday, AND they play obscure videos that you NEVER see (at least
here in the states). I've seen Cannibal Corpse only on Muchmusic!
Even the AC/DC video I saw was a very old/rare live cut with Bon Scott,
and no, not from the popular "let there be rock" film.

| PS -- MTV seems to have fallen into the following format:
1) stupid shows for 20 year olds (e.g., The Real World and those
Beach MTV, the dance show and those stupid game shows)
2) Videos for people of African American heritage, broken into the
following categories -- 1) Gansta rap 2) love videos (Janet
Jackson, TLC, etc.)

| Didn't they get rid of HBB? I thought they have some 120 minutes type show on
at that time now. MTV does spend too much time on non-musical stuff now. I
guess music videos have become so common that they need another way to get your
attention.
I find that VH-1 has more concert/specials on at night. Which is much more
interesting than the RealWorld type pseudo-soap-opera stuff MTV is hawking.
I used to like MTV because they played stuff no one else did. I found some
of their best stuff was their buzz clips.
Canadian music? CHOM FM from Montreal used to have to play 25% Canadian musica
or something like that. You'd hear every April Wine, Max Webster, Rush, Heart,
Garland Geoffries song ever made...

I've been getting very disappointed with MTV. 8 times out of
10 when I flick it on, it's anything BUT a music video. News,
game show, or their comedy or soap opera shows.......
They should change the name of the station.... it's no
longer Music TeleVision.

I believe they have taken it out completely now for at least a few
months as I used to watch it to *maybe* catch a new video from someone
but most of the time not. It used to be WAAAAAAYYYY better about 10
years ago when they would show Judas Priest live! From someplace and
have Rob come out in a Harley with a Bullwhip in hand and proceed to
kick the scoot over and whip it! I remember that very well! I thought
he was wacked! ;-) might not have been ten years ago, but real damn
close! Early eighties if I remember correctly.

-.7 RIGHT on the head. I don't mean to be seen as prejudicial, but
that seems to have taken the whole eMpTyV over in the past couple
years. It used to be all rock-n-roll from what I can recall of the
earlier years (never watched it that much back then though either) but
that is about ALL you see nowadays.....isn't there another station that
plays mainly those type videos/shows? VH1 has its moments also, but
they do show a lot more concert footage, then again, they are doing a
lot of the '80s scene too which can contain who knows what. MTV has
gone WAAAAAaaaaaayyyyy down the tubes even more so in the past year.
Just my opinion, not that of my employer!

They dumped (I believe) HBB earlier this year, which was a shame, even
though rattman needed to do somewhat better with his play-by-play
calls, and dump his "party and my place" they showed often enough....
It was decent as every-oh-so-every now and then they would show
something not seen in awhile, or a classic one. Not bad, but they
changed it from HBB for 3 hrs to Countdown to the Ball for 1 hr, then 2
hrs of repeat (just about EVERY damn week) videos shown on the Ball,
and maybe an interview with a band. I did happen to catch the Type O
Negative one early this year. Still, I wish they'd have shown more
obscure Rush videos (if they have any of that type) or even some Max
Webster! That would have been decent, or some Cannibal
Corpse/Carcass/death metal theme now and then. They shoulda done it by
theme, ie Death Metal, Gothic Metal, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, etc....
Apparently too much to think about! Well, I digress, so I will skulk
outta here for the time being, and see if I get any flamage!
Oh yeah, 120 minutes was on Sunday evenings at midnight, and now and
then they had Rollins hosting it, which was cool, heh heh heh, I said
cool!

You've gotta remember that the rockers aren't the only ones who
watch MTV and buy new music. If MTV is showing more and more
rap and R&B/dance it's because that's what they've determined
to be the "hot thing" for the time being.
I agree that it'd be nice to devote time to all musical genres,
but apparently the MTV powers-that-be don't think so.

sick of Pedro too.
There was one ep where Puck was saying "All I get from Pedro is
'I am gay, I have AIDS' and there's got to be more to him than just
that."
One that ONE occasion I agreed with Puck. Pedro seemed to try and
turn every single little thing into a gay/AIDS thing.
Love the australian chick in the new group btw. Unfortunately, she
seems to have the personality of a qiwi.

I can't say ... never saw an episode ... but I think one can generalize
the above stance with ANY minority group.
In my opinion, I listen to people like Queen Latifa or any of those
(c)rappers talk and they turn everything into a "I'm black and I'm a
deprived individual because society is against me" thing. Or I listen
to Jews talk and it's always a "We're Jewish and have to fight a
constant wave of anti-semitism in our lives...". Same old song and
dance, just applied to the minority group of your choice.
...and does anyone outside of said minority group give a sh*t or are
they sensitive to their plights? No way!

| I agree
My brother got abused on the subway in NYC because some 5-6 year old black kid
wanted his seat and stamped on his foot until he got up and moved.
The kid's mother said my brother should get up because she can't afford a car
because they are black. They didn't have all the privileges my brother did
because he is white. I guess they didn't notice that my brother was riding the
subway as well as they were and that he didn't have a car because he is too poor
to afford one (or need one in NYC).
My brother saw an older black man about 60 who was rolling his eyes. He was as
mad at her as my brother was. The woman's logic was at the level of a four year
old...

| Re: .30
I saw probably one of the best movies about racial tensions
the other day...it was Higher Learning. As for people not caring
about what the minorities have to say just look around. Political
correctness is everywhere. The majority is now having to
walk on it's tippy toes to make sure they do not do or say something
that may be considered racist. It seems that everyone is very
sensitive now to acts of prejudice and racism almost to the
extreme. The majority now sees the minorities as being
racist in the sense that was mentioned earlier--minorities making
everything out to be an issue of racism or prejudice. It is true
that environment has a great effect on the development of a person's
character and the amount of opportunities that are presented. But
people need to become educated and self confident enough to be
able to develop goals and achieve them rather than finding excuses.
Self confidence builds motivation and education is the tool for
achievement. Education can be provided for everyone but
self confidence must be nurtured from an early age by parents.
So IMHO it is the lack of a supportive family that is preventing
people from achieving their goals...not the system. Maybe someday
we'll be able to look across the boundaries of race, religion, sex,
etc and just respect people for their personal worth and character...
or maybe I'm just full of shit :)
