| GFY is a local hard rock band out of Worcester MA composed of 5 WPI
students. After forming in 1992 the band began composing their own
material with influences over the years from Metallica, Alice & Chains,
Van Halen, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Rush, and others.
Their music is very diverse ranging from heavy, addrenaline-pumping, in-
your-face rock to emotional, heart-bearing, harmony-filled ballads. We
all have our own contributions to the music and song writing which adds
a diversity not found in most bands. Since winning the College Battle of
the Bands in 1994 (Worcester) and the release of our debut CD 'dots' we
have been steadily booked at clubs throughout New England. All of us
having either full time professional jobs or being full time students,
play music mainly for fun. We really try to pull the crowd into the music,
have them feel all the different emotions in the songs. But mainly we're
out to have a good time by playing to as many people as we can. We also
find music to be a good way to contribute to the community. We have played
benefit concerts and take money donations through the sale of our CDs for
the United Way.
If you would like to get a free demo CD or be added to the GFY mailing list
send e-mail to [email protected]. Also check out our homepage on
the web at http://ee.wpi.edu/~hooker
We also play parties, weddings, and bar mitzvahs (just kidding..except for the
partys that is).
Here are some QUOTES of people who have seen us live or heard our CD:
"GFY has won over audiences with soul-baring lyrics and animated performances.
Working out their demons in front of Shane Hooker's erector set of a drum kit,
Bob Fillion, Chris Haley, and Rod Lukowski beat their guitars senseless,
providing the perfect backdrop for Sean O'Shea's emotional vocals and frontman
antics. Not for the faint of heart." --Worcester Phoenix
"...for a young band they sometimes rival the mighties of Rush and Metallica
with speed and intricacy." --Newspeak (Worcester Polytechnic Institute)
"They're a group made of raw talent..." --Worcester Magazine
"...their music is diverse and engaging,...these winners play with inspired
energy" --Worceter Phoenix
"..this disc will seduce you with some very chorus-rich guitar harmonies, and
you will be powerless against it. It will also pummel you into a bleeding pulp
with it's stop and go crunch, and you will like it."

Gee, Seems sort of worcester-ized opinion there! ;-) JK!
I'll send some mail to ya for the free CD. A friend of mines cousins
band 'Love makin' War' has a 6 song demo tape out now. They used to do
just all-original, but they are now also doing cover tunes. I think
they are either playing later this month or next month (22nd comes to
mind) at Red Square Nashua. Gonna try and catch-em live again if I can
make it up there.

request to the audience for suggestions as to what the acronym
can be expanded to. That could be alot of fun.

| Forgive me for not doing my homework. Although being new here is no excuse
for ignorance, I hope that you will hang in there with me on this. After having
checked out topic #466 I would now like to reintroduce the band members to
you once again:
The SEASONED VETERAN from Agawam MA, Bob 'Garth' Fillion on lead guitar:
Bob uses CRATE amps set on top of milk crates to provide a
full yet still crunchy in milk sound. He would rather be playing
volleyball.
The SEASONED VETERAN from Stafford VA, Shane Hooker on drums:
Shane uses drums handcrafted by the Keebler elves and drumsticks
hand picked by Juan Valdez. In his spare time he enjoys playdough
sculpting.
The SEASONED VETERAN from E. Hartford CT, Chris "C.P." Haley on guitar.
Chris exclusively uses other people's equipment and asks you to join
him in boycotting the ACME razor company for their abusive shaving
of yaks.
The SEASONED VETERAN from Canton CT, Sean O'Shea on vocals.
Sean's wardrobe consists of other people's clothes. He may not be
used, broadcast, or allowed to dance without the expressed written
permission of GFY.
The SEASONED VETERAN from Holland MA, Rodney "Stimpy" Lukowski on bass.
Rodney uses women for his personal pleasure. He also uses thick
chewed on guitar picks (for personal pleasure as well).
hooo boy..dats a lot a seasoning !
As for everyone who has sent me email about getting free demo CDs hang in
there. They're on the way. As for everyone else keep the comments
coming...this stuff could get pretty funny....have a good one and GFY :)

have some questions:
1) Have you ever played EM Loews?
2) Are you "international recording artists"?
3) Do you "endorse" Paiste products?
4) Have you ever written a heavy metal "symphony" that was actually
in concerto form?
5) Do you know what a "tempest" is and if not, have you ever used
the word "tempest" in an original lyric?
6) Are you in the habit of dropping names like "As I was speaking
to Relativity Records last night, it occured to me that I hadn't
posted anything in here recently so..."
and last but not least:
7) Have you ever "brought heavy metal back" to a town you've played in?

| Geeez this instant celebrity stuff is startin to go to my head !!
In the last response I was asked to comment on the following questions:
DB> OK, my picture of the band is getting clearer but I'm sure we all
DB> have some questions:
DB> 1) Have you ever played EM Loews
no...have you ever seen a grown man naked ?
DB> 2) Are you "international recording artists"?
all the recordings were done in a small little dingy basement
in MA...however, I do have a passport (stamped Cancun, Cayman Is.),
speak a little Espanol (su madre duerme con toros grandes bravos),
and have many friends (20 or more) who come from other countries.
One could argue that I am international. And I would think that
writing/playing/producing an album would clasify most as a recording
artist. Hence, if a=b and a=c and a=b+c then a=b=c=0.
DB> 3) Do you "endorse" Paiste products?
Sorry son, I don't do drugs. (btw, I play Zildian cymbal...Paiste
are for wussys).
DB> 4) Have you ever written a heavy metal "symphony" that was actually
DB> in concerto form?
No but I did just write our newest song which is a waltz feel
that switches from 9/8 time to 5/8 time...I'm not kidding :)
DB> 5) Do you know what a "tempest" is and if not, have you ever used
DB> the word "tempest" in an original lyric?
From the latin tempestas meaning a violent storm (ok ok I cheated
and used the dictionary). Although we do have a ballad called
Auburn that uses the word "plethora" in the chorus so there!
DB> 6) Are you in the habit of dropping names like "As I was speaking
DB> to Relativity Records last night, it occured to me that I hadn't
DB> posted anything in here recently so..."
no but again I remind you that I do not use hardcore drugs...
besides I only talk to my agent at Warner Bros :)
DB> and last but not least:
DB> 7) Have you ever "brought heavy metal back" to a town you've played in?
I didn't know heavy metal ran away. But if I had found it and
if the owner was caring enough to place a name tag on it then yes
I would have brought it back.
Well I hope that answers all your questions. Look for us coming soon:

We prefer to cover ourselves in coconut oil and wear tiger striped bikini
briefs over the Medieval look. Sometimes we'll play naked only wearing
argile socks (not on our feet of course). Well then other times we
just prefer to cover ourselves in dung and stage dive into the crowd.

| Yeh the songs on the disc are 'mellower' than say "brick to
your head metal". Three of our newest songs (not on the disc)
are heavier and have crazy time changes and rather discruntled (pissed
off) vocals. The disc will not give you a complete idea as to our
music...mainly because when we wrote those songs and recorded them
we were still trying to identify our sound and all that sh*t. We still
like those songs and are proud of em, but when we play out the only
songs off that disc that we usually play are Someday, Left, Without
a Prayer, Vengeance, and sometimes Shoot Me. BTW Shoot Me is meant to be
ridiculously sarcastic and we really ham it up on the stage...sometimes
we even cry :( I'm hopin sometime within the year we can go back
to the studio and record the new songs and start workin on a new album.
With that I leave you with this deep thought:

Yeh that would be my biggest complaint on the recording is the
drums. They didn't come out very dominant (esp the bass drums).
There's a lot of stuff goin on but you just can't hear it really.
On headphones you can hear it better but still...
We had to record the drums and mix them on the fly so basically
the drum tracks are all live...no edits or nuthin. We just got
them balanced (or so we thought) recorded em, then that's what
we were stuck with. Sucks having a budget of $0...
But you live and learn huh...next time the sound will be better.
I think the best song on the album is Grin personally. Best recording
and content wise the song is great...especially if you're depressed.
Just put that one on repeat...
The Mayor McCheese is about this girl whose last name is McNeil but
everyone called her McCheese cause she was so cheesy and fake and
a real b*tch.
Without a Prayer was inspired by this kid at our school who hung
himself my sophomore year. Kinda depressing too.
Here's a neat thing though. Play track 3 'left' one night while
you're driving down the highway. It's a real night time pitch
black outside driving song. You'll end up driving really fast
or at least I do...course I drive fast anyways so nevermind...
thanks for the input keep it comin....laters..

| I created all those pages using plain hypertext so I think they
should work for any browser. The pictures are kinda big so it may
just be that your browser is being lazy and not loading them the
first pass. Try goin there and doing a reload. Make sure you haven't
got an option set on your browser to prevent images from loading.
I'm using Netscape to browse and it seems to work fine. Sometimes
the network gets bogged down and it won't load everything on the
first try. Just see if reloading works. Laters...

suggest using Netscape as your browser since the files contain some
Netscape specific instructions. If you don't have netscape here
is a place you can get it:
http://home.netscape.com/info/how-to-get-it.html
The GFY page is at two parallel sites so if you can't access one of
them try the other.

| Just a reminder that GFY will be playing at Red Square in Nashua, NH
this Friday night at 8:30 with Prozack (the band...none of us are
taking Prozack ourselves...not yet at least).
If you like hearing new music and checking out local bands come check
out Localpalooza in Worcester on Sun Sept 17. It's an all day concert
at Indian Lake in Worcester and is sure to be a cool time. They are
lookin to get 2 national acts booked as well. I'll keep you updated.
I have tickets for $10. They're like $15 at the door I think. So if
interested email me or somethin...and yeh we're playin there.
Now for the Monday joke of the week: (not for the squeemish)
A man is out in the Chinese wilderness and he's hopelessly lost. It's
been nearly three weeks since he's eaten anything besides what he
could forage and he's been reduced to sleeping in caves and under trees.
One afternoon he comes upon an old mansion in the woods. It has
vines covering most of it and the man can't see any other buildings in
the area. However, he sees smoke coming out of the chimney implying someone
is home. He knocks on the door and an old man answers, with a beard almost
down to the ground. The old man squints his eyes and says "What do you
want?" The man says "I've been lost for the past three weeks and haven't
had a decent meal or sleep since that time. I would be most gracious if
I could have a meal and sleep in your house for tonight."
The old Chinese man says "I'll let you come in on one condition:
You cannot mess around with my grandaughter."
The man, exhausted and hungry readily agrees, saying "I promise I
won't cause you any trouble. I'll be on my way tomorrow morning."
The old Chinese man counters "Ok, but if I do catch you then I'll
give you the three worst Chinese torture tests ever known to man."
"Ok, ok," the man said as he entered the old house. Besides, he
thought to himself, what kind of woman would live out in the wilderness all
her life? Well, that night, when the man came down to eat (after
showering), he saw how beautiful the grandaughter was. She was an absolute
pearl, and while he had only been lost three weeks, it had been many, many
months without companionship. And the girl had only seen the occasional
monk besides her grandfather and well, they both couldn't keep their eyes
off each other throughout the meal. That night, the man snuck into the
girl's bedroom and they had quite a time, but had kept the noise down to a
minimum. The man crept back to his room later that night thinking to
himself, "Any three torture tests would be worth it after that experience."
Well, the next morning the man awoke to a heavy weight on his chest. He
opened his eyes and there was this huge rock on his chest. On the
rock was a sign saying "1st Chinese torture test: 100 lb rock on your
chest". "What a lame torture test," the man thought to himself as he got
up and walked over to the window. He opened the shutter and threw the
rock out. On the backside of the rock is another sign saying "2nd worst
Chinese torture test: Rock tied to right testicle".
The man, seeing the rock was too far out the window to be grabbed, jumps
out the window after the rock. Outside the window is a third sign
saying "3rd worst Chinese torture test: Left testicle tied to bedpost".

How'd the interview go?
I listened to that station until about 9:40 and then turned it
off, so if it happened I missed it. [I'd had enough of the bad
music they play on that station by then.]

| Re: .67
The radio interview went great. We played four of our songs
unplugged. We had a 12 string acoustic and another 6 string acoustic,
plus we brought the electric bass and a little amp, and I played
percussion on a cardboard box. (you'd be amazed at how well a
cardboard box makes for bongos !) The dj offered us some drinks
(we of course had brought some of our own fine brew to the station)
but when he whipped out some Yoo-hoos I couldn't resist. I love
that sh*t ! I had a Yoo-hoo and was on a sugar kick. I did my
infamous Cornholio imitation (I do an excellent Beavis). Then
the dj had some lyrics that he asked if we could make up something
to accompany him...country western style. Well we never have played
country nor would we be caught dead doing it but we did this time.
His song was about how being a dj sucked and how did he ever end
up here, should be sitting outside with a beer real corny but funny
stuff. At the chorus we all joined in doing in our best drunken
bar singer voices. It was quite funny and we have listened to the tape
a few times and still laugh at it. We were on right at about 9:40
until 11ish so you just missed us. And YES they do play some weird
stuff on there !

And did you ever consider trading in the 6-string and 12-string

| Well so far looks like the only gigs we have scheduled for September
are in good ol Wooostaaaah but I'll keep ya updated.
Sun Sep 17- LOCALPALOOZA all day outside at Shore Park on Indian Lake.
Also performing: Bonehead, Dr Bewkenheimer, Rawhead Rex, Currents,
Drag Mules, Piglet, Zephyrwolf, Winter Boy, Gas Food Lodging,
Forced Fed Shovelhead, and Classic American Hamburger. Headlining
will be Eleven and Green Apple Quick Step. Tickets are $10 in
advance so see me if ya want em. Gates open at 10am or something.
Free stuff will be given away and WAAF 107.3 will be there...so
show up naked !
Thur Sep 28 - Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester. Budweiser sponsoring
a Battle of the Bands.
Ok here's the joke of the week:
A farmer wants to get his two female pigs pregnant but he can't
afford the stud service so he goes to the Vet.
Farmer- " Hey doc I've got these two pigs I want to breed but I can't
afford to stud 'em, is there anything cheaper?"
Vet- " Well there's artificial insemination - Blah Blah Blah " He goes
on to describe some pretty expensive procedures all of which are out of
the farmer's price range.
Farmer- " No none of that stuff will do, Its too expensive, anything
else?"
Vet- " Well, not many people know this but human DNA is close enough to
pig DNA to produce offspring. Here's what you do - take your pigs out
at night, load them in your pick-up, take them out to the fields and f*ck
them. No one will know what you're up to and you'll get them pregnant."
Farmer- " How will I know they're pregnant?"
Vet- " If they're pregnant, they'll be lying in the shade the next
day."
So the farmer follows the advice and that night he struggles to put
the pigs in the truck, drives out, f*cks them, and drives back later
that night. The next day the pigs are just standing around. So the next
night he does it all over again, puts the pigs in the truck, only he
f*cks each one twice and drives back even more tired. Next day - nothing ,
they're just walking around. So he goes out again, puts the pigs in the
truck, and f*cks them three times each and comes back in more worn out
than ever. This goes on for the rest of the week and by Saturday the farmer
is too tired to get out of bed so he asks his wife to get up and look
outside at the pigs.
Farmer- " What are the pigs doing dear?"
Wife- " I don't know, one of them is jumping up and down in the back of
the truck and the other is blowing the horn."
ha ha :)

1090.89 | bunch o freaks !!! | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Mon Sep 11 1995 07:47 | 24 |
| As you know in the happy little town of Worcester MA this
Sunday will be a music festival that even the gods will envy.
(dramatic intro). Anyways thought you might like to know that
other than the 12 great bands that will be performing there will
also be a freak show! And no I'm not talking about GFY...although
that point may be debateable depending on whether you've seen
O'Shea dance or not...I'm talking about Bug Boy and the Pierced
Nipple Guy !!
There gonna be this guy who like hangs cinderblocks and sh*t from
his nipples. I hear that he has been on the either the Letterman
or Tonight Show (can't remember which). He is also talented enough
to swallow a condom, then regurgitate it and blow it up through
his nose. In addition to him there will also be Bug Boy who...
well he eats bugs...you'd like him Judy (no more bugs) :)
I'm told that these guys are attractions...but I'll leave that
up to you. I know a few of you had said you might be interested in
going so just let me know ASAP. Tickets are $10 and it's all day
Sunday Sep 17. See the last couple notes for more info on the
bands playing there. Should be a lot of diversity. Laters...

kinda vague so I'll try to get better directions tonight.
Supposedly there should be about 3000 people at this thing so
it shouldn't be too hard to spot.
From outside of Wocester:
Take I-290 to I-190 (Exit 19??). Take Exit 1 and take right at
Greendale Mall. Follow the signs and look for the freaks.
From within Worcester:
Take Park Ave. to Boston Billiards. Take a right on the
the road right past BB. Follow for a couple miles. See
Indian Lake on the right. Take first right past the lake.
Follow signs look for freaks.
If all else fails just look for Crazy Al and the crew from
Gilligan's Island.

| Ok here are much better directions:
From NH:
Rt 3S to I-495S to I-290W
Take Exit 19 onto I-190N.
Take Exit 1 Greendale Mall.
*At end of ramp merge onto Park Ave. get into far left lane
Take left exit I-190N/Shore Dr.
Bear right (bearing left will put you back on I-190N...bad)
At light take a left onto Shore Dr.
Follow to the end (less than 1/4 mi) Shore Park is on the
left. Look for freaks (should be some besides us).
If you're actually coming from Worcester just take Park Ave
toward the Greendale Mall. Right before the mall take the left
exit onto I-190N/Shore Dr. *see above

or anything like that allowed at the park (sorry SueJ)
Since this is an all ages type thing I guess they figure:
booz + kids + big lake = big liability
Ok but for the good news, you guys can all come and party at
my place after! I'll pick up some brew before hand and hell maybe
we'll even fire up the grill. And hey we'll even catch some of
the football games !!! yess!! I'll pick up some Coors Light and
some good beer too (hi Judy).
We are going on sometime around 12pm. We probably won't stick
around too long after we're done playing since we have no truck
or anything to keep the equipment locked up in. The weather forecast
calls for partly sunny skies highs in the 70s.
I just made a map that shows ya exactly how to get to both
Shore Park and my apartment. So if anyone needs it let me know
and I'll fax it to ya along with a fax of my butt...huh huh faxing
is cool...I still have tickets if anybody still wants to go. $8 for
you H_Mers. Laters....

Worcester Magazine and Worcester Phoenix this week in
their articles about Localpalooza. Rodney looks especially
cool in his 'cow' shirt. moooo moooo. And Sean seems to be
fondling his left boob...no not Rodney's but his own.
And they misquoted C.P.! They quoted him as saying "This
will be the biggest crowd we've played in front of." But
they forgot to add the last word to his sentence..."naked".
Damn press ! Oh yeah btw I'm told that the first 250 people
at the gate receive a free mystery bag !! woo hoo.
Other things to do there: sumo wrestling, bungee runs, velcro

and sh*t there too. And don't forget Turbo Tom "the nipple/condom guy"
and the Boston Blockhead (some guy who eats 9 inch nails!!).

Nope, it happened. It was a rain or shine thing.
Lots of very strange and young looking peoples. I felt
quite old. =) A couple of the bands were really bad,
the one that was playing when SueJ and I got there was
pretty good and GFY did well despite it being a very cramped
stage. Didn't hang around much after GFY was done as we
were quite wet by this point (though we did remember to bring
our umbrellas!). Went back to the band's apartment and had
hot chocolate. =) We left just as Turbo Tom (the guy who
eats lightbulbs and hangs bricks from his nipple rings) was
going on......

1090.124 | rainsoaked freaks throw mud and enjoy GFY | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Mon Sep 18 1995 10:34 | 49 |
| Well for this is a recap of the Localpalooza that DID go on yesterday
for all those who are rain impaired.
7 am -- woke up. looked outside and saw much rain. said 'Shit'.
watched Scooby Doo. looked outside. still saw rain. said
'f*ck' and then took shower.
8:45 am -- dropped off equipment. was surprised to see many kids
already in line at the gate.
10 am -- gates opened. many weird/bizzare/rain soaked people enter
Shore Park.
11 am -- bands begin playin. majority of bands didn't impress me. watched
people get body parts pierced for very low prices instead..
11:30 am -- no sign of Al or the SS Minnow .. Coast Guard notified
12:15 p -- JJ and SueJ show up and consider getting body tatoos and
belly button rings in order to fit in
12:30 p -- lot o kids + lot o rain + dirt = mudflinging (hmmm I think
I've seen something like this before)
1:05 p -- GFY takes the stage
1:06 p -- many teeny boppers decide Sean is cool
1:08 p -- Sean sings to jailbait...gets a few phone numbers while
performing
1:19 p -- throw out CDs and watch bezerk freak kids fight for them
in the mud
1:20 p -- well we're done that's it...was it as good for you as it
was for me ?
2p -- back in time to watch football...party at my place...
pizza + beer + football = great day
2p to 5p -- tease Sean about gettin all the high school chics ...
talk about becoming a Poison tribute band ... then decide
swallowing and regurgitating condoms through our noses would
be a better career path
We didn't stay around to watch the freaks perform but I heard that
he was very interesting. Apparently he was able to dislocate parts
of his body and suck his stomach up into his chest making him look
very thin ... I'm sure it was attractive.
A special thanks to SueJ and JJ for coming all the way to hear us
play for 15 minutes in the rain surrounded by a bunch of freaks.
But hey you got some hot cocoa out of the deal huh ?
Our next gig is Oct 7th at good ol' Sir Morgan's Cove in Wooostaaaah.
You guys will actually be able to see us perform a full set !!!

Although Sean was disappointed that they were both guys, I'm sure
that the girl teeny boppers will be calling for him shortly.
This just in: GFY playing this FRIDAY night at Macars in Springfield.
We'll be opening up for Angry Chair (Alice N Chains tribute) and
they're supposed to be really good. Anyways, if you happen to be in the
Springfield, MA area this Friday night please stop by and say hi
and bring a 15 year old girl for Sean. More info and directions as

| In Monday's Worcester Telegram & Gazette there was an article
on Localpalooza. Somehow we were the only band that this writer
guy talked to...probably cause he was afraid to go up to any of
the other bands, some of em were pretty scary. Anyways we had
3 quotes in there. The best one was by Rodney and it brought tears
to my eyes so I figured I'd share a little portion of the article
with you:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
YOUNG MUSIC FANS SLOSH 'N' MOSH -by John Monahan/Worcester T&G
...The show wasn't a big money-maker for the local performers, many of
whom took a small cut from tickets they sold to their friends and fans
for their performance fee. Still they all seemed to treasure the
chance to put their music on stage for an enthusiastic audience.
"We're here to play for the people, not for the money," said GFY
bassist Rodney Lukowski....

1090.141 | Friday night at Mikara's | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Mon Sep 25 1995 08:44 | 39 |
| Well we played at Mikara's on Friday night. I'm beginning to feel
that whenever we play out we bring rain with us. Hey maybe we could
make lots o' money playin out in the midwest during drought season !
Anyways, Mikara's is easily the best club we have EVER been to. The
sound system there is totally awesome. They have a huge stage,
dance floor and large bar on the main floor. Then they have a spiral
staircase that takes you up above where a balcony overlooks the
entire main floor. But there is also another bar and pool tables
and dart boards upstairs. They even had a piano/lounge room adjacent
to the main room where we hung out before the show and I played
Home Sweet Home and sang in my best Vince Neil voice :) ...then I
was told to stop livin in the eighties and to get a haircut :(
Anyways we played our 50 minute set and the crowd was really cool.
They were definately waiting to see Angry Chair (headline band) but
they got into our stuff too, which was cool since everyone here
was new. We even sold 4 CDs which covered our gas money so we
were psyched ! So that brings the total number of albums sold
to hmmm 3,000,004 not including our European sales which my
agent from Warner Bros tells me has surpassed even David Hasselhoff.
Sean was spooging all over because he got to use a wireless mic.
I was also lovin it cause I could feel the bass bouncing off the
back wall everytime I used the kick drum. uuummmmm bass....
Angry Chair was definately awesome ! If you weren't
watching you'd swear it was Alice N Chains...cept different.
We may be playin with them again sometime soon cause we got
along really well.
All in all it was a good night. Got to hear lots of our favorite
Alice N Chains songs by a band who was extremely talented. I got
to run up and down spiral staircases till I was dizzy. We brought
much needed rain thus saving the ecosystem and we put on a good
show.
Catch us at the Cove on Oct 7th ! Laters....

1090.142 | Tasteless Joke of the Week | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Tue Oct 03 1995 11:30 | 27 |
| Well just another reminder:
GFY at Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester Sat Oct 7th at 10p
with Wicked Garden (Stone Temple Pilots tribute)
Also it's been a while since I posted a rather tasteless joke
in here so here's one that I still get a good laugh out of:
Cinderella is all excited about going to the big ball. The day before
the ball, she gets her period. She is very upset because now she won't
be able to go to the ball. Her Fairy Godmother comes to the rescue,
bringing her a magic tampon. She tells Cinderella that the magic tampon
will absorb anything, but she must get home by midnight because it will
turn into a pumpkin at the stroke of 12. Cinderella goes to the ball
and her Fairy Godmother waits for at home. Midnite comes and goes and
Cinderella has not returned. 1AM & 2AM pass by and still there is no sign
of Cinderella. The Fairy Godmother is frantic with worry. Finally, at
2:30AM, Cinderella comes rolling in with a big, lopsided grin on her
face. Her makeup is smudged, her hair tousled, and her clothes disheveled.
Her Fairy Godmother asks, with a mixture of consternation and relief:
"Cinderella, where have you been?" Cinderella says: " I met this wonderful
man, Peter Peter something or other....."
ha ha :)

I don't know if, well actually this does have something to do with the
note title!
Here is a joke I heard yesterday morning which was a great way to start
off a monday!
A salesman is driving down this country road on a stormy morning when all
of a sudden his car breaks down. He pulls over to the side of the road
and gets out and starts walking towards a farmhouse with its front
porch light on. He walks up to the door and knocks, waits a bit, then not
hearing anything walks around the side of the house to take a peek
in a side window which happened to have its light on. What does he see but
a naked old lady stroking her boobs and a man with nothing on holding an
umbrella over his head while pulling his *****. The salesman says, man I am
outta here, these people are wierd!
He continues walking down the road and comes to another farmhouse with
its porch light on. He knocks on the door and waits a few minutes. A
man opens the door and the salesman asks if he can get some assistance
with his car or at least use his phone. The man agrees. The salesman
then says to the man, "you have some strange neighbors over there"
pointing to the other farmhouse. The man says "what do you mean" and
the salesman explains what he saw. The man says "oh, they aren't strange,
just deaf and dumb. She was telling her husband it was time to go and milk
the cows, and he was telling her GFY, it's raining outside!".
Fits perfect with the name! If you tell it to others, make sure you do
the motions! It accents the joke MUCH better! ;-)

| Not sure how many of you there are out there, but for those of
you who are in a band and are interested in getting some good
quality promo pictures done, I have just the place. ABC pictures
in Springfield, MO. We sent them off an 8x10 b&w photo of us
(that we took ourselves) along with a logo design and a draft
of the text we wanted and they sent us back 500 really nice
lithograph copies on glossy stock with the picture and info on the
border just like all those other cool bands have in their press kits.
All for the low low price of $70. I don't think anybody could beat
that price anywhere, even if you just made 500 cheesy Xerox copies.
Anyways, if anybody needs more info just send me some email.
The photos came out pretty good...Rodney is wearing his shirt
with a big cow on the front which seems to make us appear to
just be a bunch of average lookin Joes...which I guess we are now
that I think of it. ...hmmmm...

Ah but not glossy stock !! Most place charge more than 10 cents for
that...plus to do any typesetting would cost you extra $$. So for
people like me who don't have convenient access to a really nice
laser jet printer or scanner it is a good deal. You COULD probably
do it all yourself for just a couple bucks cheaper but it's the
whole CONVENIENCE thing...plus you have to have all the graphics
software and cool crap like that....which I have...just don't got
a printer. :(

Fill a washtub with polyurethane and dunk the pictures in it 1
at a time.
But if you spend more than $70 on polyurethane then I guess it
won't be too much of a bargain. A guess would be 1-2 gallons
at most, so you should be OK.
Always glad to help.

| Well does any body want their own house band ?
We just got word that we could no longer practice at the place
we have been after 5p on any day. It seems the apartment buildings
behind us have been complaining a lot to the police about noise.
Hmmm...let's see the apartment building is surrounded by 3
fraternities and I'm sure that a band who plays 2 nights a week
is really the reason for all the noise. I'm sure it wouldn't have
anything to do with the weekend parties and the random amount of
noise made by groups of people playing ball and drinkin beer in
the driveway...but noooo...we have to be the ones who are restricted
to what hours we can play. ;( As if we don't have day jobs or
something and can practice whenever we want to.
Evidently you can register a noise complaint at any time (not just
after 9p). So that sucks...now we have to find a fu**in place to practice
which means renting a rehearsal space, which means, $$$.
I have half a mind to rent an apartment in that building and we
can rehearse in there ! Sorry...just griping...it just sucks that's
all.

1090.177 | G*F***Y******* this Thurs night !! | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Mon Nov 13 1995 07:55 | 24 |
| Well it's been a little over a month since we last played out at
the Cove but this week we'll be back. The only thing that sucks
is that it is a Battle of the Bands and it is on a Thursday night.
However, if you're the type to disregard such medicore
responsibilities (like waking up for work the next morning) if you
show up we promise that it'll be a great time. We're all fired up
to play this week cause we've been workin on some new stuff and are
gonna play it Thurs night. Plus I got brand new shiny kick drum
pedals that really fly this weekend !! There's some real hi-tech
stuff in those pedals now...35 degree angle cuts on the sprocket reduce
the surface area and the amount of displacement blah blah blah
teflon coated ball bearings blah blah ... all I know is they were a
cool $120 a piece on sale !!! yikes !! Anyways, if any of you
local to Worcester guys/gals feel like goin out Thurs night then
stop down at the Cove and I'll like buy ya a beer or somethin. We
go on kinda late though....we're the headline act so it'll be around
Midnight to closing that we are on. Hope to see some of ya there..
if not then hopefully we'll see ya on New Year's Eve when we play
First Night in Worcester. More details to come...I was thinkin
of tryin to throw a little HM New Years Eve party type thing. Whatya
think ? Laters...
Shane, who wonders if nothing sticks to teflon then how do they make
it stick to the ball bearings ??

Actually the funny thing is I'm still not used to those pedals cause
they're so fast. I'm used to my older Tama Camco pedals and they
had a lot more resistance so you had to push down harder. After 7
years of playin on them it's really weird playin on somethin that
has teflon coated ball bearing blah blah blah. It's gonna take a
little adjustment for me to be able to keep the rpms down on my feet !!
As for playing One in my sleep...the pedals are so good they play
it for you. ;)

1090.186 | And the winner of the Battle of the Bands is... | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Fri Nov 17 1995 08:52 | 46 |
| Well last night was a very long night at the Cove. The first band,
Wasted Creation, were your typical biker band heavy metal types.
Unfortunately we got there a bit late and only caught their last
two songs. Somewhat WhiteZombieish but I was not too impressed with
the two songs I did hear and began to believe their band name was
self explanitory. The second band of the night was Snatch. They could
easily be picked out in the Sir Morgan crowd because they were all
their best shiny grey suits and ties. At first I wondered if they were
gonna do a Beatles tribute but they ended up playing a lot of funk.
They were pretty good, you might even consider them really good if you
were into that punk hard core rock type stuff. Although they started
to become a bit boring and I was distracted by the Miss Fitness USA
that was being shown over the TV at the bar. The 3rd band was very
...interesting. Their bass player was easily 6'6" tall and had a
top hat on to make him appear yet even taller. He was a rather skinny
fellow and wore his bass nearly up to his neck. He also had on these
rose colored sunglasses and all I could think about was Brahm Stoker's
Dracula cause that's what he looked like. Their singer came out
donned in a white flight jump suit with a backpack strapped on him.
I immediately interpretted that this was supposed to be some sort of
gimick. As soon as they started their first song I knew who their
influence was...Red Hot Chili Peppers. They played really tight and
put on a rather funny show. After every song the singer would unzip
and remove the white jump suit to reveal he was wearing another white
jump suit underneath it. Their music was tight and they had a groove
and I think I remember the singer attacking the bass player and biting
his leg. Anyhoo, it was about at this point when Rhoda brought
out our 3rd pitcher of beer and we started talking about how they
should bottle nose grease and put a little bit in the beer so that you
don't have to get rid of the head of foam yourself. Oh yeh, Rhoda
says hi Jen. We took the stage right on time and had about 10 or so
faithful die hard fans there to cheer us on. The Cove was not very
full that night. We played pretty good. Definately improved and got
into our groove by the 3rd song. By the end we were really having fun
and not wanting to stop. Sean danced his little dance the entire night
narrowly avoiding crashing into Stimpy bass and causing a massive
head injury. After we were done they announced the results and ...
... we didn't win ;( We tied with Snatch for 3rd. The Chili Pepper
guys with the parachute man won. Guess we lost points for not having
a gimick. But oh well... at least we had fun playin the last half our
set and we sounded tight. And at least we got to watch the Miss
Fitness USA pageant while the other bands were on stage :)
Shane, who is very sleepy today... TGIF.

| Well 1995 has nearly reaced it's end. Regardless of how the year
went for everyone New Years Eve is an occassion to party a lot and
start the New Year off the right way...which would hopefully not be
with a hangover but hey it's usually a tradition. Anyways, if you
are lookin for something to do in the fine Metropolis of Worcester
you can stop by GFY headquarters and party with us.
We'll be playin at the Girl's Club (chance for some of you guys to
score with underaged chics) in Worcester at 9:30 till 11:20p. But
starting around 6p we'll be tailgating and celebrating at the
apartment. There is sure to be hot dogs, hamburgers, and circus
midgets. If anyone is interested I can post or send you mail for
directions to the pad. Just bring your own beer or little blue cooler
and you'll be all set.
The Girl's Inc. is located directly across the road if you take exit 18
(Route 9) off 290 W. From Worcester take 70N (Lincoln St) and it is
just before the overpass for 290E on the right across from Paper World.
Hope to see some of ya there but have fun whatever you're doin on

ummm..ok..
but I can't possibly see how the money you'll save on beer
could possibly make up for the cost of transportation from
Texas to NH ;)
[ENGINEER GEEK MODE ON]
let's assume you take the cheapest transportation method, driving
your car...assuming that your car is in good working order and up
to the drive. Let's again assume that your car gets say 25 mpg
and that you put in the cheap stuff at $1.27/gallon. Approximating
the distance from Texas to NH we'll say it's roughly 2000 miles.
If you drive a constant 65 mph not even stopping to pee or eat
or anything it would take you 1 day 6 hr 45 min and $101.60 to
get here. That's $203.20 round trip. If you assume that you
pay $1.50 for a beer down your way you'd have to drink 204 beers
between 8-9p in order for it to pay off.

Ummm.... sorry boys but in order to go 2200 miles in 25 hours you

If Buck drives 110 miles per hour for 100 miles

Hmm, I came up with 85.003 mph.
100 miles
--------- = .9090909090 hours
110 mph
200/100 = 2 hours
400/90 = 4.444444 hours
total = 7.35344 hours. Which leaves 17.64656 hours for the rest of the trip.
1500 / 17.64656 = 85.002

Well let's see..I don't think I followed the CORRECT method for
keeping my significant digits. If we go with 4 sig digits throughout
the entire calculation we get the following:
100mi/110mph = 0.9090 hr
200mi/100mph = 2.000 hr
400mi/90mph = 4.444 hr
total of 7.353 hr leaving 17.647 hr for remaining 1500 mi.
1500mi/17.647 = 85.00 mph

You guys sound quite professional/polished on stage, I'll
tell you. Much more energy displayed than I would have
thought after hearing the demo CD.
And the studio version of "Mayor McCheese" doesn't do the
intro justice. That bassist of yours is excellent, as far
as I can tell.
Sorry I didn't stick around, but I was tired and took off
after you finished. I did see Godiva, the band before you.
Yuck, IMO. Some sort of a Slayer-influenced band, complete
with mostly-illegible vocals and OK instrumentation. They
would have been better off as an instrumental band, and a
double bass set-up would have helped immensely. The drum
sound was very wimpy.
Is it my imagination, or does the sound system pretty much
suck there? The PA mid/high had an annoying buzz/hum, and
the PA bass seemed to hit resonant frequency quite often.

I've played there about 5 times now and my opinion is that they push
the sound way too loud for the room. I remember getting there

even just talking at normal voice-volume it sounded like we were

They need to invest in some acoustic tiling for the walls or something.

Another good show by these guys.
The 1st band, Seeing Red, was 3 young kids who were playing
their 1st show ever. A punk band, ala The Sex Pistols, and
most of their songs sounded pretty much the same. But the
highlight came when, about 30-35 minutes into the show, they
ran out of songs [they'd already done about 15 of them by
that time] ... so they decided to do a couple instrumental
jams, made up on the spot. And they sounded good ... I hope
they take a hint and do a little more of these in the fut-
ure.
The 2nd band was GFY. Sounded as good as they did at Sir
Morgan's Cove a couple weeks ago, and made the 1st band look
like 3 young kids who were playing their 1st show ever. 8^)
The sound was good, the mix was good, and all 7 fans seemed
to like what they heard.
The 3rd band was Carbon 14. 3-piece thrash band, and not too
bad if you like thrash. They knew what they were doing, for
sure, and actually sounded good. But I left after the 2nd
song so I didn't hear everything.
Who won the battle? Hopefully it was GFY.

| Re: -1
Thanks...yeah the 'thrash' band came in first. It's pretty silly
the way they judge it anyhow. They measure the applause with
a SPL (sound pressure level) meter. Thing is they go by the applause
after the band's performed and factor it in with applause for
each band at the end of the night. So at the end of the night
all of 'our' fans and the first band's fans have gone home...
cause I mean why stay in Dudley any longer than you have to ;)
So whatever regulars are still left pretty much decide the winner.
Since they're so drunk and can't remember what the first 2 bands
sounded like naturally they'll cheer (or not cheer at all) for
the last one. Same thing happened the last time we did this. The
last band won because all of their fans who came to see them were
there when they did the final applause tally.
Of course we all know that the band that brings in the most people
are bound to win in any case since the club owners see the chance
for making a few bucks.
In every other 'battle of bands' we've performed it was always
a number of factors. They would get 3 or 4 'judges' who would
listen to all the bands and rate them on things like originality,
stage precense, sound, size of drum kit (we'd always win if that
were the case)...etc. Then they'd factor in crowd response after
the band had played ... along with factoring in how many people
the band brought in and how much they spent on beer (this again
is my theory). At any rate...I'm tired of typing now so I'm gonna
take a nap...

some Gomer with big lungs could screw up the results.

I think they should use those remote control do-dads like on
Americas Funniest Home Videos. 'Ok lock in your votes'. You
notice that the video with the animals doin silly stunts or the
kids droolin over themself always win ? With that kind of winning
combination having O'Shea as our front man, we'd win for sure.

| Y'know Steve Morse's column in this months "Guitar for the Practicing
Musician" is called "Translations".
Example:
Phrase: He plays too fast and without feeling
Translation: Wish I could play that fast
Here's one I'm going to send to him as a suggested addition:
Phrase: Battle of the bands
Translation: A method employed by club owners to get
bands to play for free instead of paying them

| Well since has been low on our Thursday night performances
(mainly due to Jennifer Anniston's perky nipples) we've taken
a gig on .... WEDNESDAY night !! Alright. This Wednesday night
as a matter of fact. We'll be playin at good ol Sir Morgan's
Cove in Worcester. Actually it should be a decent gig. We're
teaming up with 3 other bands (mostly college bands from WPI).
We'll go on around 10p just when the beer starts to get good.
So if you're in the area and haven't heard us yet stop by and
have a brew, hear some tunes, read the literature in the bathroom
stalls, etc.
Other bands performing: Orion, CardBoard Bob, and some other
band...
Cover: $3 or something like that...
proceeds go to us...so if you show up I'll buy you a beer ;)
See ya...

good band. If you don't agree, well, GFY. 8^)

Is that based on 3 bands performing?
If there were 4 bands, would you get 1/4 of the door money,
or $.75/person entering? Or would the cover charge be raised
to $4 [$1/band] and you'd still get 1/4 of it, but now you'd
get $1/person entering?

From today's [Monday, 07/01] Worcester Telegram, section B,
North Edition, in a column by James Dempsey on the WWW after
doing a search on "Worcester":
Under "Entertainment", I went to the home page of the Worc-
ester rock band GFY, which included information on the band
members and a long list of things that GFY did NOT stand for,
including "God Fearing Yankees", "Gonads from Yaks", and "Got
Fed Yet?".

| Amazing...we haven't played a gig in over a month and they write
about us in the paper ??? hmm...must be nothing much to write about
down in Worcester. We've been takin a while off to try to work on new
stuff and been working around everyone's schedule. Luckily one of my
coworkers had a garage he wasn't using so now we're practicing in a
garage in NewIpswich, NH. We have moved up from just being a basement
band to a garage band ! We're really psyched. We've been working with
our PR guy to do a story on how difficult it was to say goodbye to the
basement and enter the big time of garage bands. We're trying to not let
it get to our heads. We hope to play a few gigs in the near future so long
as we can avoid that whole heroin usage thing that occurs once bands make it
big.
Shane...sarcasm included at no extra charge.. ;)
btw...our next gig is scheduled for Aug 3 at the Espresso Bar so long
at it doesn't burn down like the Kalidescope did. We're playin Jul 27
but that's at some private party ...laters..
|
1090.306 | | EDWIN::HOOKER | | Thu Aug 01 1996 12:26 | 16 |
| Well we've come out of our temporary coma and actually have a gig
this Saturday down at the Espresso Bar in Worcester. It's mostly
a teen type club seeing that they don't serve alcohol there but if
you happen to be in the Worcester area Sat night (and maybe some of
you still hit on teenagers) then stop by. We'll be in the back
grillin out and tailgating if you care to stop by. The GFY tailgate
party will start around 6p. This will be our first gig in months...if
you recall the last gig we had booked (the Kaliedescope) was cancelled
because of the place catching fire. This time we hope to at least
play a few notes before setting ourselves a flame.
The Espresso Bar is on 70 James St between the Penitentiary Club and
London Billiards. We'll be on around 8:30...
