| I saw them a while back at Pearl Street Nightclub in Northhampton MA. I
went to the show because their last album, "Slow, Deep, and Hard" (beautiful
album cover if you get the uncensored version) had some
pretty aggressive hardcore tracks. I was very dissappointed to find a bunch
of mellow, glam-rock posers with teased hair playing psuedo-rock to a bunch
of incredibly bored post-punk kids. We couldn't even mosh to this self-
indulgent garbage. If you like the new song (there is a longer version of
it on the LP), then you should check them out. Veteran fans can look
elsewhere.

1033.5 | Sell Outs | ALFAS::CHAMPIGNY | | Tue Sep 20 1994 07:55 | 9 |
| A saw them early in the Spring. I think the Northampton
band Doom Nation opened for them. Their songs are very
repetitive and the tempo was SSSSLLLOOOOWWWW. I
liked them when they were hardcore, with a more
aggresive groove. After 30 minutes I almost fell asleep
at the bar. I think I left before they played their
"sell out" tune. If you've heard a band on WAAF, then
you *know* they've sold out to corporate big-wigs. ;-)

Hi,
Well, I saw Black No. 1 video on eMTyV and think the guy was scary
looking, could be a decent vampire with his cheekbone structure! :)
As for the album, slow is a work for most of it, very heavy, sort of
gothic-like with the keyboards. Does a cover of Summerbreeze! I was
dying when I heard that one! CW is an awesome tune, but I like the
dark "Suspended in Dusk" right before Black No. 1, and of course the
best line of the last tune "Oh baby, Lily Munster....ain't got nothin
on you" I liked this album so much that I went out and got Slow, Deep,
and Hard and The origin of the feces and was surpised that the latter
appears to be live, they do a cover of "Hey Joe" to Hey Pete, and also
Paranoid by Black Sabbath. Now, again, these two discs appear to be
remastered/remixed because the cover of TOOTF is not the same as the
first one I saw of it. Also, Bloody Kisses in now selling with a VHS
tape of Black No. 1 with it! Damn! Figures I'd already have the CD and
now this!
If you like dark, moody, slow music, that is fairly heavy, you may like
it. If not, it may not be your cup of tea! I have a strange range of
music I listen to, and I like the newest one. But then again, I also
listen to the likes of "Brand X, Savatage, Dream Theatre, Helmet, Rush,
Robin Trower, SRVaughn, George Duke, Stanley CLark (occasionally the
last two), Hot Tuna, etc....." NO RAP, unless you put Rollins in that
arena, which really doesn't fit too well!

Type O Negative will be appearing in Newbury Comics on Sunday 7/16/95
at 2:30 PM, hot off the radio this morning. I may hit there on the way
to the show! They even said Peter is in Playgirl, what a poser eh?! Not
that I am going to get PG mind you! They did say plenty of copies of
their "new" CD Bloody Kisses, geesh, the thing has been out for well
over a year (according to the stamp on the back of the CD liner....).
May be interesting, but it is going to be hot as hell supposedly, that
could put a crimp in it, since I'll be driving 2 hrs to get to the show
and back again.......!

an earlier note here, my musical tastes vary widely. Take this morning,
I was listening to Slayer, then Pantera, then Type O ;-)

Karen and I caught the end of these guys last night when they
supported Queensryche and they seemed ok.Half way through the last
song, the roadies came on stage and atarted dismantling their set.The
band kept playing and occassionally turning 'round to see what was
happening. At the end it was obvious they were upset but the bass player
made a joke about it something like "we only pay these guys 'til 8pm
and they refuse to work later".Then he tore the strings of his bass and
the keyboard player pushed over his keyboard!I felt kinda bad for them
but they did get quite a good reception from the crowd.

Why did you feel kinda bad for them? I did also, but because they
didn't get to play long enough! It was funny when they started taking
the stuff down while they were playing, yes, 8:00 was referenced, but
so was $4.25/hr! ;-) They were pretty good, opened with Cinnamon Girl
from "Suspended in Dusk" intro.....I was psyched when they started it,
but then the CG switch came....I was bummed a bit! They only did like 6
songs......christian woman, are you afraid, blood and fire, black No1,
cinnamon girl, and one or two others......decent though. I'd love to
catch them in a club though next time!

I thought that was part of the act since they were almost done with
Black No. 1.....I wished they would have played another 45-60 minutes
myself! Man, I was psyched when they opened with the intro to Suspended
in Dusk, I REALLY wanted to see them do that and Kill you Tonight.....
I should have gone last year when they were with Prong and White Zombie
in Worcester. Someone told me they were here about 3 months ago in
Boston at one of the clubs.....I didn't hear a thing about it on the
radio either..... I hope they will be back soon! All in all, it was
decent, even though the soundman should have been fired! His bass
wasn't that prominent until the last song IMO. Also wish we could have
met them at Newbury Comics, but the line was around two sides of the
building......

ever seen play at great woods.....IMO it wasn't an act....the roadies
started to break down cuz they had to get out of their for Qryche to
go on at 8:30...play their 2.5 set..and get outta their by 11pm..which
is pretty standard at Great Woods ..as i believe the agreement with the
neighbors is that all concerts will be done by 11pm.....p.s...through

stride as far as I could tell, and I was in Row T in the pavilion(sp).
He didn't sound p*ssed when he mentioned about the 'working past 8:00
pm' bit, and $4.25/hr wages ;-) Still, I'd have liked to see Type O
play an additional 30-60 minutes. QR was AWESOME though, very very good
show IMHO.

| you were behind us....while the bass player was gracious in what he
said to the audience (never let them see you sweat, ya know)...apparently
you didn't see the bass player rip his strings off his bass and stomp
offstage.......or the keyboard player knock his stuff over and a
variety of other things which would indicate that they tweren't too
happy....IMO Qryche was really good and I really like Qryche and they are
head and shoulders above many bands that call themselves musicians...I
didn't think the show was AWESOME....course you may be using that word
the way others use the the word 'and'...which is all too often in my
opinion....awesome should be reserved for things like a volcano
erupting...;") ..I've heard Tate sing better although his off night is
miles above other peoples 'great' night..vocally speaking...also IMO..
a show should end on a high energy note..you know..leave the people
charged up and wanting more...........their last 40 minutes was
pretty much testing out the new material...which is fairly dirge like..
...had i been arranging the set....i would have ended with a couple of
rockin tunes....the 'bar' thing they did..while atmospheric was kind of
boring to us..... ian said it before.....this tour is really the geoff
tate show...and while i think he's great.....(and with the new haircut
he looks like christopher walken...)...i wonder how the other band
members feel about being background for him.......i was ticked that
they didn't play 'last time in paris'........./k

1033.26 | still liked the show! | SUBSYS::MSOUCY | | Wed Jul 19 1995 13:01 | 36 |

As I said, I saw him break his strings, I also caught the aftermath of
the keyboardist semi-trashing his keys. He broke his strings down in
florida also. I haven't sent mail to a friend who caught them there
with QR a few weeks or so ago, but he is a QR fan and loved the show,
other than them not playing O:MC in its entirety. They didn't play Last
time in Paris during their Empire tour when I saw them (first time) in
the centrum. They should have started earlier if time was that much a
constraint on the bands......And I still say the show was awesome in
the respect that they put on a hell of a show compared to the last
time I saw them, mind you I've only seen them twice (now) and this was
much more elaborate/melodramatic than O:MC in its entirety along with
at least half of Empire, a couple from Rage for Order and one or two
from The Warning, I wish they would have played Queen of the Ryche and
The Lady wore Black, along with more older stuff off Warning. All in
all I did enjoy the show, which is what I expected, no less from them.
I really, REALLY wanted to see Type O play longer though.....as I do
like them, they are a tad different in their lyrics :-) and he has an
attitude towards a particular female I never found out who she was, an
ex-girlfriend/lover/fiance probably....I'd rather see Type O in a club
due to the limited material they do have, although they do some decent
covers, Paranoid, Black Sabbath, Cinnamon Girl, Summer Breeze, that is
what I got a kick out of while listening to them.
QR is good, I liked Geoff with the new dew and film clips, fits right
in along the lines of MindCrime mini movie/film. As for the band
members taking back seat to him in the show(s), he is the frontman, and
they do backup vocals, leads, duet leads, etc....no major bass solo,
drum solo was ok, but I liked his double-bass Tama kit he was playing
last I saw them, he is a very good drummer though! Anyone else catch
the show and have their opinions?

Well, I just picked up Peters first band - Carnivore, thrashy, hard
core, speedy stuff, come to find out they only did 2 albums, of course
a couple songs were left off this disk (Hendrix's Manic Depression,
BUMMER!) and another one or two shortened to fit onto the CD. I thought
it was only their second one - Retaliation, but it contains both self
titled and the latter. After they disbanded for whatever reason Pete
formed SubZero which later became Type "O" Negative. Now to go find
SubZero because it appears to be all the current members of TON. I'd
like to hear what they sounded like!
The writeup in the sleeve sounds like they (Carnivore) would have been
rather interesting to catch at a show, dressed up like post-nuclear
warriors with furs/leather/hockey equipment/chains/whatever.....and it
says Pete is 6' 6" tall. Big dude!
Well, gotta run........

I picked up "Bloody Kisses" last week, and have listened to it
1.5 times so far. Not bad at all.
As was mentioned, it's pretty slow, but heavy. Psychadelic Furs-
like vocals mated to Danzig music ... and on a couple songs, they
actually could have passed them off as Danzig songs.
What's the song "Loving You Is Like Loving the Dead"? Is that
the name of it? My favorite so far ... long, but good.

Just picked up "October Rust" by TON yesterday....talk about a
different style/progression for this band! I consider it fairly mellow
compared to their earlier stuff, BUT...
I LIKE THIS DISC so far! Tracks are as follows (with some comments)
1: Bad Ground (a joke leading into track 2)
2: no title, band saying thanx for buying the record, hope ya like it
3: Love you to death - I like it!
4: Be my druidess - decent tune, slower beat like #3
5: Green Man - another mellow tune
6: Red Water (Christmas Mourning)
7: My Girlfriends Girlfriend (radio hit no. 1 I believe)
8: Die with me
9: Burnt flowers fallen
10: In praise of baccus
11: Cinnamon Girl
12: The glorious liberation of the people's technocratic republic of
vinnland by the combined forces of the united territories of europa
13: Wolf moon
14: Haunted
15: another non-title track (short) with them thanking you again,
etc...
Overall I like it, but it sure is a different direction than I thought
they would go after the last couple releases! I give it a thumbs up.
If you like peter's more melodical singing with some lower end
occasionally and something most others would enjoy you may like it. I
personally like peter's vocal style, low end, mid-range, etc...and I
think he has a powerful voice and it shows here that he can sing rather
well IMO.

you forgot to put IMHO, because as humble as it is,

| Hey, no prob Super Denise! It was an honest mistake.
How do you think October Rust compares to Bloody Kisses?
Now for some ACTUAL commentary, besides "it sucks", "does NOT!":
All the songs on OR sound the same, instead of going from punk/thrashy
to near pop-ish like on BK. And they speak directly to the listener
which would be cool if it were more like a narrative, but it sounds
just plain cheesy they way they do it. They must've been high or
something.

| I heard Bloody Kisses and was highly unimpressed but for Christian Woman
and Summer Breeze, the Seals and Crofts cover. These guys brag about their
talent in the liner notes, but I think someone's been lying to them.
Good Halloween or spatter film music.

glad you didn't take it too personally, `pril. (may i call
you that?)
MHO of BK to OR....
i heard them for the first time on BK... it happened to be
the record of the month for columbia house, and i gave it
a listen. i thought they were fantastic. being one of those
depraved gothic-type music lovers that i am... it fitted
perfectly into my listening tastes.... i then went out to
look for more of their stuff... and ended up with origin
of the feces and slow deep and hard... inasmuch as i liked
origin, i didn't appreciate the latter that much, too thrashy.
it seemed to me that they were trying to decide which path
to follow...thrash ... gothic. when OR came out, i was pleasantly
surprised they continued somewhat on the same vein as BK.
i love their interpretation of cinammon girl...
if you listen to the conversation at the beginning of the
tape (after their `little joke') josh mentions they were high
when they put OR together. in interviews, (check out the web)
they say they create their music for the fun of it... there
are no `hidden agendas'. so take it as you will...
the only bad thing i can think of to say of both, BK and OR
is the wasted tape space they use to thank you for buying the
tape, for listening to the tape, joke, and to see us on the
road.
you did ask.

i saw TON at the pavillion in portland this sunday...
the band DRAIN opened for them, an all girl band from
stockholm.... thrashy, splashy...and from the guys near
me...dead sexy.
TON were great... they're awesome live!
they did LYILLTD, christian woman, black #1, MGG, snow,
and a few others...
they started a bit late, and a gangsta rap group filled in.
(i think pete said they got there late...i think that's what
he said) but they made up
for it by adding a few more songs... we got out of there at
about 11:40, a good half hour plus than expected for a sunday
nite.
they were worth getting back home after 2 am.
i think they're back at the pavillion on the 17th.
