No, I think it was the drummer that invented that.

Satch could be the "Messiah", but Morse is still the "God".

db, in case you haven't noticed, chrome matches everything.

with Morse constantly playing in "venues" that hold < 1,000 patrons, it's
tough to be able to afford that cool stuff. Rumor has it that Morse
will open up for Satch on his next tour so Steve can experience what
it's like to play in front of 20,000 fans. For his sake, I hope they
show up early instead of waiting until Satch comes on for the main
billing.

Mikey, Mikey, Mikey,
If "how many people you play in front of" is some sort of "measure" of
a guitarist, then you'd have to say that Satriani doesn't even come
close to measuring up to Mick Mars.

1004.21 | My review | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | db | Tue Dec 06 1994 07:56 | 56 |
| Didn't see your note yesterday but I did go to the Boston show last
night.
It was great, a friend of mine who said he was going to get the tickets
told me YESTERDAY that he never got them and wasn't going. Which
meant that a) I had to run out and get a ticket and b) I had to sit
by myself although I drove there with some friends.
However, turns out a block of seats right in front of the stage opened
up the day of the show and I got third row center!
My take on the show was that this "new" Dregs band (new keyboardist,
new violin, new bass player) has really jelled and is now up to and
perhaps past the standards of the original band.
One thing that struck me was that whereas historically you always knew
that the most musical and most amazing solo in any given song would
be Morse's, in this band there are now three total monster soloists
all of whom produce solos that evoke standing/cheering ovations.
Jordan Rudess, the new keyboard player, is the best keyboard player
to come along in MANY years IMHO, and what's more is that he's a
great fit for the band. He had the most amazing and musical
"solo section" (no accompanying instruments) of the night.
I thought Jerry Goodman wasn't a very good fit when I first saw him
with the Dregs, but at this gig he was sensational and the standard
Dregs unison lines he did with were very tight and his solos were
very "Dregsish". My only remaining complaint about him is that he
only has one basic "electric violin" sound which is very screechy.
I LIKE that sound, but wish that he would occasionally mix it up a
bit and throw in some more acoustic sounding stuff.
To be honest, while he's a great player, I wish Dave LaRue would give
up a bit of the high end in his bass sound and go for a smoother
rounder bottomy sound. His bass sounds VERY "thin" to me and it makes
the band sound thinner as well.
Morse seemed a bit bored or something. Really didn't look like he was
into it. I even saw him drop a pick (something I've never seen happen
in my 18 years of watching him play). He still did some amazing stuff
but I thought very little of it was "inspired" as it usually is. Looks
like he had a bad day and just wanted to get thru the gig but of
course, I have no idea what the real story was.
As an example, he went into a little discussion of "bootlegging" and
while most of it was "tongue in cheek" I think he was trying to get
a message across ("Don't bootleg us"). This is quite a contrast from
a show I remember from about 5 years ago where he said "Our new album
is out, if you don't have it yet, get it from your friend and tape it."
While that was "tongue in cheek" as well, I think it was JUST a joke,
whereas last nights lecture seemed to have a genuine element to it.
And despite this, I think he had the best solo of the evening, which
was on "Hereafter". That was the highlight of the concert in terms
of crowd response.

1004.24 | | DREGS::BLICKSTEIN | The moment is a masterpiece | Fri Jun 07 1996 17:55 | 16 |
| I have videotape of those segments of the movie, but not the actual
soundtrack.
They are all re-recorded versions of Morse tunes that appear on
different albums. In some cases they've been retitled. Would
be cool to check out the soundtrack though as I would guess they
have the full versions and not the clips that are used in the actual
movie.
BTW, Steve Morse now has his own official web page:
http://www.stevemorse.com/
It's still under construction last I checked, but looks promising.
