it's really funny too! 8)On one of their songs "lady muck" they steal
the riff to "a whole lotta love".

988.2 | Same old song and joke | SSMPRD::SREGAN | Are there any monsters under my bed tonight? | Fri Dec 31 1993 05:21 | 29 |
| The Macc Lads were funny on their first album Beer & Sex & Chips and
Gravy and the "Ehh Up! Macc Lads" 12" (where they did a cover of The
Monkees "Hey Hey We're The Monkees" and a brilliant version of Beer &
Sex.... using kazoos!) but since then they've just been rehashing the same
old stuff.
Admitedly they have had their moments since the first album - Uncle Knobby,
Fat B@stard, Ben Nevis, Apprentice Dentist and Gordon's Revenge spring
readily to mind but there's only so many times you can hear the same
joke and still find it funny.
Saw them at that sweat pit called the Edinburgh Venue on the Live at
Leeds tour and they attracted quite a variety of people - metalheads,
punks, skins, goths and trendies and there were the inevitable fights
between them.
I thought the funniest thing about the Macc Lads was that their first
album was funded by a government grant scheme that was around at the
time to set-up people in their own businesses. As they say "questions
were asked in the house" and various tory MPs demanded that the money
be repaid!
I can just see the grant application form - We want money from you
southern p*ofs so we can make a sexist, racist, anti-gay, and
everything-else-ist record. Thank You.

| Another album released last year, about march - april, called An
Orifice and a Genital. Basically contains a few oldies and other
previously unreleased on album, although they were released on EP.
songs like Baggy Anne, Knutsford and a few others. Not bad. Knutsford
is a cover of Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits.
Anybody know if they are still going? I've not heard anything from them
for ages.

988.5 | the end of an era :( | WELSWS::HEDLEY | Lager Lout | Tue Jan 11 1994 06:50 | 11 |
| The Lads are one of my fave bands, but unfortunately they're no
more. They split up a couple of years ago, though Mutley and Al O'Peesha
continued gigging as `The Macc Lad' until Mutley got bottled at a gig
in Wales (claiming to be brain damaged, but this may be a typical
exaggeration)
They have another LP waiting to come out sometime, `Ale House Rock',
and their back catalogue is being released on CD by Dojo Records,
so that'll keep me going for a while, but there'll be no more tours :(

| One of them recently got married to a fairly famous actress...whose
name totally escapes me know.
So I would guess that`s the end of that. Your street wise cred probably
goes a bit, singing about shagging birds and drinking 20 pints of
Newcastle Brown when you have to stay in with the missus and pay the
mortgage.
