Their concerts are very very very Yeeaahhhh
Hi, I was about two months ago witness of THE stone Temple Pilots
concert.
The place: doornroosje, Nijmegen , Holland.
It was a very small heavy-club, it was very nice.
I find their music a mixure between Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in
Change, lets say just the seattle sound. He ..... they also come from
Seattle.
Their CD is also perfect and is now one of the CD's I mostly listen.
The stone temple pilots did not have any Great Hit in Holland Yet, but
I expect them next year in big festivals like 'Pinkpop'.
You think 'pinkpop'????? It's one of the best festivals in Holland.
This year the following groups performed :
- Telenios monster
- Rage Against the Machine (whow!)
- The black Crowes
_ Lenny Kravits
- New Model Army
- Living Colour
- The Red Devils (very good blues)
- and some local groups
The year before it was also perfect with groups like Pearl Jam, The
Cult and many more.
I expect that the pilots are one of the head acts on next years
pinkpop.
I hope I will see you there.
Date : 23 MAY 1994
PLACE: Landgraaf Near Maastricht , Holland, Europe
Greetings Pat.

I'm no lyric genius, but I felt the song was about some woman he buried
six feet under, and calling himself kinda crazy with the 'these are the
eyes of disarray' line. Guess he's hanging around figuring it'll take
awhile before the blood-hounds will sniff out the body.

Didn't see what happened to the guy, but after a few shoe throwing
incidents, the band got pissed (must have stemmed from the drumming
off stage of the Elvis impersonator and the Flaming Lips, whom I
thought sucked quite immensely), stopped in the middle of thier
third song, had the guy in the green shirt brought forward, and then
they all jumped off stage and proceeded to 'do something" to the
guy "in the green shirt.
Other highlights:
Gibby has such a way with words, especially when he told ALL the
mothers of twelve year old girls "EXACTLY" what he wanted to do to
thier daughters with all protruding members of the male human anatomy.
When he did it again
And when he did it again
The BHS lightshow...they set up for all members of the audience doing
halucinogenics.
When the STP are the "headline" and they play second
The young kids, who because of some cheap f#&ks at the show who
wouldn't supply water, but sold it for $2.00 a pop, had to drink
the water out of the lake.
Best quote: After skimming the lake for his umpteenth cup of
candylike lake water "This is the cleanest cup I've had all day"
I'm still trying to figure out if he meant the water or the cup
itself that was picked out of the garbage can.

|
The Boston Globe, Friday the 13th...Living/Arts section has
an article on the STP fan beating in Garnder.
Looks like the dude that got beat up came forward and gave an
interview. I read the article and as I was there I would say its
sounds pretty much like the truth. Well...except for the actual
beating as I was in back and didnt see that...but everything that was
said and done up until the beating sounds about right.
But then we got the "he said", "I did" stuff and who knows what
really went on unless you were right there.
The lead singer Scott Weiland said that the guy in the "green tanktop"
was the one throwing the dirt and wanted him brought forward.
So the dude thought that was cool and went willingly.
Question is...was he the one who was throwing dirt?
Did STP beat up the wrong dude? Not that it was right for them to beat
up anyone!!!! According to the article STP has made no comments and
so far no charges have been made but a lawsuit is being comtemplated.
If the beating that was described in the aritcle is true...it sounded
nasty. I'll be curious to read about the outcome of this deal.

Back circa 1976, I saw Aerosmith at the Boston Garden. Joe Perry was
doing this solo, and this guy goes up to the stage while Joe is sorta
walking backwards and grabs Joe's leg and yanks him over ... ClUnGgGGgG
goes Joe and the Black Les Paul Custom onto the floor. So Joe gets up,
and slings the LP over his head and BEANS this guy senseless with it. I
remember Joe got a big round of applause, and people were kicking this
guy as Security literally dragged him outta the place.
Imvho, the action was justifiable in 1976, and in 1993. Bands are not
objects for which the audience are to throw things, etc. If they start
pulling that $#!+, then THEY have set the pace for a battle!

I have some mixed feelings about this kind of thing. First I certainly
don't condone people throwing ANYTHING at a performer(s). But this kind
of incident does go hand in hand with any performer and happens alot in
rock shows. There are ways to deal with it other than getting violent.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that its part of the territory
in rock and roll. Get used to it, or stop performing. It should be
expected from a crowd at any show. There will always be the single
digit IQ's in the audience that will do this kind of thing. No?

Well its just like anything else in life.
Do you ride a motorcycle without knowing that you could possibly get
hurt of killed. Yes, I take that possibility into account. Do you play
any contact sport without thinking that you could get hurt? Yes. There
are certain risks with anything in life. There are jobs that have a
certain amount of danger in them. I think that playing Rock and Roll
is one of them. If you don't like it, just sit in your living room and
play to a reflection where you're nice and safe. No stopping it so
better learn to live with it.

I highly disgaree, and think your Motorcycle/sports=injury analogy is
naff! One does NOT become an entertainer with the understanding that
it will be allowed for their audience to threaten their life by
throwing things at them ... puhleeeze!

now, if the AUDIENCE in that scenario didn't make a big stink about

I understand what you're saying. The point I'm making is that if
anyone in the Rock business goes out on stage so innocent in their
thinking that they don't expect incidents like this to happen, they
should. There will always be idiots that continue to throw things
at performers, like I said originally. There are better ways of
dealing with this kind of thing without violence. I like what Bon

I was thinking of starting a new note because of this discussion.
I feel that being a performer ESPECIALLY a Metal musician knows
what a HM crowd is capable of. I see anyone that plays in a rock
band whether he steps out in front of 50 or 50,000 is in a very
dangerous and explosive situation. I think everyone in this con-
ference has a story to tell of what they have seen or experienced
as a performer or spectator.
I would like to know if you think that a performer (especially
metal) assumes a certain risk and should accept it as part of the
business. Is it part of the job? How much should a performer endure
before you say "I quit" it is too dangerous? Or "I'm tired of being
hurt". After all, this is HEAVY METAL where no quarter is given and
none accepted. (I heard that quote on Mtv).
Also what are crowd control methods you have seen work at rock shows?
Some bands are good at stopping this when it happens. Others turn to
violence because maybe they can't deal with it any other way. What
do you think?

I read that a woman had a baby that looked just like a bat in Weekly
World News.
I still think that someone stupid enough to throw stuff at a performer
that they paid money to see shouldn't be allowed to remain in the show.
The problem is that most people that do that are kind of covert about
it.

I saw them right before they got big around here, back on the Core tour
with Rollins as the main act! Hank stomped through the crowd about 8
ft. from me! He's big for his size, but he isn't that tall, I'd say
around 5' 8". Well, STP was ok, they weren't really loud and me and my
buddy were checking out the chicks so I didn't pay a whole lot of
attention to them. They were ok, as I said. Megaphone on Rubberman,
overall ok.....Hank was EXCELLENT! Excellent drummer and guitarist and
Andy on the Ten Ton Bass was still with him then too! Nice ride home
that night, had to drop someone off in maynard then head back to
methuen! STP's second album got a LOT more airing than the previous,
and I like most of the songs on it, most were on the radio! Their
latest does nothing for me, doesn't even sound like them now...and I
have hardly heard anything on it! But from what I gather, it ain't that
great....so I won't get it!

For all those slagging the new STP you really owe it to yourselves
to give this cd a few listens. You might find that the band has
grown alot rather than gone downhill. Course, I keep forgetting that
this is the HM notesfile and unless there is stomp-through-your-heart
bass, blistering guitars and gone-nuts drumming no other music seems to
matter. And unless a band keeps copying their own style over and over
and over again they just begin to suck.
I like HM just as much as the next guy but really - you all owe
it to yourseleves to expand a little. IMHO the new cd contains some of
the best music STP has put out. This is a nice alternative to their
other music...definitely a complete change and style...and great!
This is no slam to anyones particullar musical taste but before
slagging give a good listen (that goes for any cd).
As for the video - I've never and never will base a band on video.

As far as the "mix" used - yes, the whole album is mixed the same
way. As far as the music, there's alot of variety. There are a couple
of heavier songs (the like of BBB) but for the most part this album
is fairly laid back. Lots of texture used in the music. Kind of retro.
To me the album is more of a "grab a beer, sit back and relax" summer-type
music rather than "jack daniels, pedal-to-the-metal, grit-your-teeth, let's
rip someone's face off tonight" music.
Just my opinion -

Well, after 1 listen I think I like it. They definitely "turned
it down a notch" on this album. Very different from the debut,
which is why it might take a few listens to make a decision.

| What ? Nobody's mentioned anything about their singer (what's his
name ?) being in the hospital for drug related reasons ?
They were saying on WAAF that he's under doctors care and cannot
sing or perform for a while. So I guess the 3 free shows they
were going to do are cancelled or something. Aren't they supposed
to open up for KISS ?
Hmm..this guy, Stayley from ANC, Kurt Cobain, all Seattle all
junkies. If I were ever in a band that were to get national
attention and one of the guys goes and screws himself up like
this to prevent them from doing shows and jeopardizing everything
I'd be pretty upset. What is it with musicians doin so many
drugs and screwin themselves up so much ?

What a knob Weilland is! Just imagine all the good things that would've
happened for him and the band if he didn't do smack.
The last time I heard he was going into re-hab was just before the
group called Mad Season got together. The STP boys were gonna turf him
outta the band if he didn't stop using.
The only other thing that could rival this as the most bone-headed move
of all time is when Stayle went into re-hab and Alice in Chains missed
out on Woodstock '94. So did the fans for that matter...

My understanding of smack - not first hand mind you is this: It helps you feel
comfortable with yourself. I imagine that there are plenty of introvert/shy/etc
types who end up in music. Dealing with touring and groupies and crowds must be
quite a challenge. Smack seems to take the edge off of everything and make you
feel comfortable with yourself.
I think I read this in Hammer of the Gods. Hardly a fact filled piece of work
but it tried to explain why people who seemed so successful to us have so much
trouble and resort to smack to deal with life.
Kurt Cobain springs to mind. He seems like the typical smack user to me.
Insecure/introverted then becomes successful/popular beyond all comprehension.

SPEAKING OF PARTYING (THE DOWNSIDE) STONE TEMPLE
PILOTS frontman SCOTT WEILAND was yesterday ordered by a judge to
spend between four and six months as a resident at a drug treatment center.
The order by the Pasadena, California, Superior Court throws the American
rock group's summer tour schedule into chaos. Dates with reformed rockers
KISS starting in June are now likely to be canceled. Stone Temple Pilots
manager STEVE STEWART confirms, "The band will not tour until Scott is
healthy." Weiland, 28, was arrested last year for possession of cocaine and
heroin. At a subsequent court appearance he was told the charges would be
dropped if he completed a treatment course to kick his habit. However, last
week it was discovered Weiland had used drugs again and he was yesterday
brought back before the court where he was ordered to be placed under
around-the-clock supervision during his rehabilitation. The charges will
still be dropped if the new rehabilitation attempt is completed. Atlantic
Records have already canceled Stone Temple Pilots concerts in Chicago, New
York and Los Angeles when Weiland booked himself into a center for treatment
of drug abuse last week. After the troubles of last year Stone Temple Pilots
had managed to start a successful comeback- their new album TINY MUSIC,
SONGS FROM THE VATICAN GIFT SHOP, reached number four in the
charts. But, without touring support for the album, that comeback could be
put in serious jeopardy. Just say no, dude. You are, like, totally blowing
it. Best wishes in rehab, though. Hope it works out for ya.

members of this band as particularly outstanding musicians, but I
really like their sound and their song writing. STP wouldn't be STP
without Scott's vocals. I took a solo vacation to Florida a couple of
years ago and listened to CORE about a zillion times. I think when I
got home I had every lyric and note memorized. Now I can't
listen to any tune from that album without thinking about cruising down

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
frontman SCOTT WEILAND amid claims that he walked out of drug
rehabilitation center without permission. Weiland, 28, was ordered to spend
four to six months at a Pasadena, California, clinic after being arrested
last year for heroin and cocaine possession. Weiland began serving his
sentence in April and, as a consequence, the rock band canceled its summer
tour including hotly anticipated dates with KISS. Rumors have been swirling
that the band is (rightfully) extremely annoyed with Weiland and looking to
replace the wayward singer, but the group's manager, STEVE STEWART, hotly
denies these rumors. He said, "The Stone Temple Pilots won't work without any
members of the band. And no one's looking to replace Scott." Ok, so they will
tour when he gets out of jail or what?

| Apparently Scott has gone back to the rehab clinic. They have not
issued a statement as to what he was doing, not that I've heard, but
this should be an interesting excuse! Actually I think Jay was right.
He probably went out to try and get the VH singing job, but amid
reports confirming DLR is back with them (temporarily?!?) he decided to
go back to the clinic. Course maybe he just left to get some "female"
attention....or a quick fix!
