| Its taken me an hour but have I finally located DK fans...?
So is this now old news, are there only two DK fans in this place, or
is anything still happening?
(Apart from the re-releases)

| Yeah, but the spirit lives on...
I bought it at the time, and have recently got all nostalgic...trouble
is, finding anything contemporary that kicks the same spot...unless
thats just the sad inevitable ageing process on my part!

| I didn't discover the DKs until they were already history, but I really
like their old stuff. One of these days I'll have to get some more,
I only have "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" and "Plastic Surgery
Disasters", but excellent albums.

Does anybody have the Alternative Tentacles album where various HM
bands covered DK songs?

| 'Fraid not - but I think you'd be better off sticking to the
originals...these 'tribute' things are usually a rough deal - I
remember the Clash getting similar treatment with a bunch of wannabee
bands covering their stuff, and it was dismal. Like, who who would
want to mess with 'Too Drunk...' ? Although, if yr tastes are varied,
try & get a listen to the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy
('Television, Drug of the Nation' etc) covering California Uber Alles
- interesting....

| The Dead Kennedy`s tribute album got good reviews,(unlike the Clash
tribute album, like you said). It was the 100th Alternative Tentacle
release.

| If anyone is still interested....
Although cover albums are usually naff, Virus 100 is well worth
checking out cos it's mostly "name" bands that are on it. Of course
there are some dodgy moments but I guess it depends on your own
personal taste.
Very few of the bands opted for the let's_just_play_it_as_close_to_
the_original_as_possible approach.
e.g. NoMeansNo's acapella Forward To Death
Disposable Heroes' rap California Uber Alles
High points, for me, are:
NoMeansNo
Disposable Heroes
Faith No More Let's Lynch The Landlord
L7 "
Les Thugs Moon Over Marin
Kramer In Sight
Didjits Police truck
Steel Pole Bath Tub Chemical Warfare
Can't stand Alice Donut's Halloween and whoever does Too Drunk To @%$&.
IMO both these songs have been seriously murdered.
The Bishop
P.S. My local record shop tried to tell me the vinyl version had been
deleted and it was only available on CD and tape. Wrong! I got the A.T.
catalog with The Power of Lard 12" and you can still get it on vinyl.
That's how I managed to get my record. Looks like the record shops are
in with the record companies on this CD/Vinyl thing!

| Jim,
Virus 100 is still available (I only got my copy a month or two ago)
but you may have to do a bit of searching to find it. Alternativley you
could come and see me and I'll give you the A.T. catalog and you could
order it from there.
No one covers Stealing Peoples Mail but the songs that are covered are:
Police Truck
Too Drunk To F*@k
Halloween
Lets Lynch The Landlord (twice)
Nazi Punks F*@k Off
Forward To Death
Chemical Warfare
Saturday Night Holocaust
Moon Over Marin
Ill In The Head
California Uber Alles
Winnebago Warrior
Drug Me
In Sight
Holiday In Cambodia

929.16 | Small cars? Fez hats? Que? | SSMPRD::SREGAN | Are there any monsters under my bed tonight? | Tue Jan 11 1994 04:05 | 13 |
| Okay - question time!
The cover of the Kennedys' Frankenchrist album has guys driving along
in wee cars and wearing fez hats. Who are these guys and what is the
significance of them?
I've been wondering this for a long time and no-one I know has any
ideas about it.
Over to you.
Cheers,
