885.1Angel now available on CD!DPE::STARROut Of The Cradle, Endlessly Rocking!Mon Oct 05 1992 17:1110
I thought there was a topic for the band Angel, but I guess not, so I'll
put this here.....

The old Angel albums are now being released on CD! I saw a "Best Of"
collection that had about 15 songs on it, including both "Winter Song"
and "Christmas Song"! Cool!

Can't wait to pick it up!!!

An allegedly brilliant band (who i`ve never heard),but they all dressed
in white and featured that Greg Giuffra keyboard player.

I have 2 or 3 of their albums that I bought about 15 yrs ago or so.
I haven't played them in ages. I saw that CD also and almost picked
it up. Some of their material was very heavy for the time. Maybe I'll
blow the dust off of them and give it a listen.

Angel were cool. I remember seeing them at the Orpheum like a million
years ago, and everyone thought the put on the best show!! They were
hot stuff for a long time in these parts.

They were popular in the mid 70's. I remember listening to them when I
lived in Detroit around '76-'77 and then when I moved to Las Vegas,
nobody had ever heard of 'em. Seems to have been a regional success.

I always thought Punky looked like a dork. I'm sorry, but his hair
looked like he'd gotten a bad bowl cut in the front!

    it was Styx...

They backed up Styx at the Boston Garden (on the 'Grand Illusions' tour, if
I remember correctly). All I remember is that it was snowing like a mutha
that night!!!

Great show, though!

885.15Orpheum then Music HallSALEM::STIGThu Oct 29 1992 00:599
I don't think they played at the garden cause they were playing at
smaller arenas. They definately played at the orpheum during "Grand
Illusion" and the year after they played at the "Music Hall (Remember
that place?)" during the "Pieces of Eight " Tour. If I can remember, the
band Starz backed them up..Boy...I think I'm getting flashbacks. I
still have all my ticket stubs as far as 1977. Wow!! This was when Styx
was in there prime and when they made it BIG!! Sometimes I wish I could
just go back in time to see them again during those 2 tours..They were
    the best...
885.16BOVES::FENNELLIs it true, the thangs they say about you?Thu Oct 29 1992 10:203
Unfortunately Styx's fame and the quality of their music were going in
opposite directions by that time...

Metallica is heavy_metal, that's for sure, but I would not call Angel
    by that word.

    Heavy_Metal is NOT AOR.

Greg used to sell blue jeans in a store in Mississippi back in the
early 70s. A singer I met from that local thought he was the greatest.
I'm surprised to hear that their material is being re-release.
