880.0. "Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds" by DPE::STARR (Out Of The Cradle, Endlessly Rocking!) Thu Oct 08 1992 16:57

Izzy has a new band, and a new album. The band (and the album) is called
'Izzy Stradlin And The Ju Ju Hounds', on Geffen Records.

The Boston Glove gives it a thumbs-up review, comparing mostly to Keith
Richards and the Rolling Stones.

Best news of all - on lead guitar is Rick Richards from the Georgia
Satellites!!! He is an awesome rock'n'roll guitarist!

I can't wait to check out this album!!!!

    RE: Alan

I've heard some of this album, and can tell you this will be in your
WHAT'S HOT list for a LONG time!!! Izzy wears his R&R influences
well on this debut, and it really has a nice R&B groove (with an
edge). *Very* Stones-ish ... but the singing sounds more like Keith
    than Mick.

Yeah, the GS are gone 8^(.... the single from Dan Baird is LAME, although
I must admit that the chorus is catchy. I heard it only once, over 2 weeks
ago, and I can still hear it....

You know what I like!!!! 8^) I get that feeling too - I mean, I just eat
up this kinda rock and roll!!!

Ha! That's exactly what the Globe said also! Here's the whole review:

Izzy Stradlin shocked the rock world by walking away last year
from Guns and Roses, for whom he had penned such tunes as
"Patience", ""Mr. Brownstone", and "Double Talkin' Jive". Stradlin
was fed up with the G'n'R madness, but he hasn't turned his
back on rock and roll. This new solo disc, due out Tuesday,
plays like a tribute to his idol: Keith Richards of the Rolling
Stones. Stradlin scores with the same gritty, raunch-ready guitar
style as Richards. Many song, in fact, such as the slide-guitar
stoked "Train Tracks" and funky "Cuttin' The Rug" would fit
comfortably in the Stones songbook. The only drawback is that
Stradlin' also sings like Richards, meaning the limited, hard-edged
rasp to his voice is an aquired taste. There's no Mick Jagger to
pick up the slack (or Axl Rose, for that matter), but there's
plenty to like if you need a shot of pure energy and can overlook
the vocal shortcomings. Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds, who include
guitarist Rick Richards from the Georgia Satellites, even add a
punked up cover of Toots And The Maytals' "Pressure Drop". Keith
	Richards would be proud.

I dunno if I'd be that harsh on Izzy's voice - I liked it when he sang
"Dust And Bones" on 'Use Your Illusion I'..... but then again, I like Keith's
voice too, so who am I to judge??? 8^)

Weird! Maybe I'm in the wrong biz -- maybe I should be a music critic.

Got to be Sticky Fingers then, because I have Let It Bleed and it doesn't
have it...

I heard this song last night on the way home. Good call Alan & Buck.
Definitely Stonesish/Crowesish... If the rest of the album is on par, it
will be a big hit...

Picked up this album over the weekend..... review forthcoming after a few
more spins.....

Initial impression? Maybe not as great as I had hoped, but still damn good.
And it's too short - under 40 minutes. But more details later.....
