The only classical music I have is a 5-disc set of Beeth-
oven's 9 symphonies, so I don't know anything about Bach.

    	Is Bach piano-oriented, or orchestral?

    	Recommendations? Thanks.

    	RE: Pete

OK, thanks. Are the 2 works mentioned his best,
    		or just the most famous?

I realize that tastes are different, but everyone
    		has to start somewhere.

If you like the Switched on Bach type thing Walter/Wendy Carlos has
performed many classical works using synthesizers. I think the
interpretation is really quite good and I enjoy listening to them, but
a lot of purists are quite critical of the efforts.

It may seem odd, but I really don't enjoy listening to most classical
guitarists. While people like Segovia and Parkening have amazing
expertise in playing (and in the feeling they express), I prefer
listening to orchestral works, string quartets, and harpsichord for
    classical works.

Bach wrote some beautiful works for string quartet!

Another of Bachs most popular works is a piece called "Jesu Joy of Mans
    Desiring".

Cool! I'll definately look for it then. A good organist is something
    pretty amazing to behold.

Segovia rocks (rocked?) I've got a tape of his stuff at home.
Also, for those Bach-Heads, there is a CD I have at home called
"BachBusters" which is all synth/synth-guitar. It's very wierd
to hear Tocata/Fugue on synth. I personally loved it, but would
hate to have to learn any bach stuff on the guit. It'd be too hard.

Well, I think J.S. Bach has influenced almost all keyboard players in
heavy metal and other kind of music. There are strong influences when
you listen the heavy organ play in Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Yes and
many others. I allways like to listen Bach music on church organ
because it's really heavy ! His musical ideeas are base for many actual
musicians and it's interesting to search the links with the actual
    heavy metal.

You could always have sent her mail. Perhaps now she'll actually READ
it before deleting it... And if you're *really* fortunate, she *may*
    even reply (if you beg).

The "Brandenburg Concertos" (1-6) have been hot with me all week. Vai
could learn a few things from this guy in terms of melody and emotion.
