    Thanks dude. I'd like to do some NY metal shows. I don't know if they
    book our type of metal, but there are some that do.
    
    We've been looking for management too, but it's hard to find good
    ones. We do have a lead though. We'll see how he works.

    The night i went to CBGB`s they had 5 bands of poser type metal,so 
    i`d imagine you`d be okay Pete. (This was 2 years ago on a tuesday
    evening,if i remember correctly).

    hey cool!  boldface is my friends band from new jersey.  i was planning
    on checking them out tonight (they are at narcissus) but alas, i cant
    get there :'(.

    Are you gonna check them out at the Derringers show? What type of stuff

    um, probably not (too far for me!) and i have NO clue whatsoever :').
    new jersey is really into the primus, smashing pumpkins type stuff, so
    i wouldnt be surprised if it was anything like that (well, maybe not
    the whole of nj, but the people this band hangs around with...)

    We are finished recording our EP...Finally! The final mix will be done
    within 2 weeks. After that we will be getting professional copies made.
    All of the recording was done on a Tascam 488 8trak machine. Our guitar
    player works at a music store so it was very easy to borrow all of
    the mic's and fx's. The tape has 4 songs on it. I will give a run down
    of the songs and their general meanings:
    
    Wild Things--- A song taking a comical look at the Grateful Dreadhead
                   culture..."puffin on your happy smoke, flower power's
                   not a joke"....its amazing how this culture still tries
                   to carry on..."Like a hippie comin into town,,Jerry's
                   head is goin down"....Quite a heavy tune!
    
    Sick Henry---- A song about a local nutcase who raped and killed his
                   13yr old next door neighbor, then buried her in his
                   basement. To sum it....who can you trust??
    
    Better in Heaven- About the Death of a loved one.
    
    Larry-------  Larry is a guy we know who was born back in the 60's.
                  His parents thought that something was wrong with him, but in
                  all actuality...they were f*cked. The put him in a
                  mental institution for 15 or so years...He became total
                  screwed up and now requires medication to function 
                  ??normal??. Larry thinks everybody else is crazy, but
                  him.

    MHO is this band sounds like what the Black Crowes would sound like if
    they emerged from the Seattle music scene!!  Sorta like Black Crowes
    meets Soundgarden!
    
    Black Crowes you say?  Well, the drum and bass groove...same sort of
    R&B-based groove used by the Crowes, but the guitars have that
    distinctive 'Seattle' sound to them (as do the vocals).  Although, the
    first cut, Better in Heaven, sounds like early Clash guitar playing and
    vocal style (ala Mick Jones).  The clash similarities however, end at
    the start of the 2nd cut, Larry.
    
    This is a cool band.  Not quite my cop-o-tea (as is anything from
    Seattle, really), but they have it together.  CoNtAgIoUs' buddy band,
    LOVE IT TO DEATH (who's EP appears on side 2), is closer to home for me
    stylistically, but is still too "metal" for my tastes...
    
    Buck, not doing much 'metal' these days...

    Thanks Mike for the quick review. The Beatles album thats on the rest
    of that tape is Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.. As far as the
    profanity goes....some people dont care for it...but then again we are
    not writing about very nice subjects...it doesnt bother me. If there
    was alot of profanity (ie Red Hot Chili Peppers), Im not sure how I'd
    feel about it..I like the RHCP's but alot of people REALLY seem to get
    offended. Love it to Death is a good band...espicially live. I think
    Virginia is my favorite tune by them.

    He still has the mohawk. That summerjam was pretty rough. The sound was
    horrible under that big metal thing. Im glad you liked the stuff.
    Our style is changing from then....for the better IMO.

    Bob, let's trade demos so I can book us shows together!

    Pete- I will get you a copy of the tape. It will not be the
    professional one at this point...We finished the mix the other day,
    although it came out good...we feel we can make it bigger and better.
    As far as the mix goes:
    
    Our 8 track, Tascam 488, only allows us to mix 2 lines out. This means
    many of the tracks have to use the same EQ. We are going to borrow our
    friends deck that will allow us to EQ all of the tracks separatley.
    All in all the tape sounds MUCH better then some of the rough mix
    copies I sent out, but the cymbals are a bit hissy and cut into the
    guitar and vocals. Also some of the vocal screams could cut it on
    that memorex commercial where they break the glass. The guitar
    sound could also be fatter...We should be doing the remix within
    2 weeks...Im dying to get it done, but good things dont come fast.

    Mike-- The tape you have is very 1-dimensional. The final mix was ok...
    much bigger....but still needs some work....we are shooting for Airplay
    quality which I feel we can acheive with some good engineering work..

    We put some really cool stuff from the Movie "Blue Velvet" in the solo
    of Wild Things. It sound really good. Man! I cant wait to get this
    fackin tape done...it seems to be draagggiin on!

    Well the final mix was done on Friday. I think the tape came out
    awesome. Eq'ing all of the tracks really helped to tighten the sound
    up. Plus it allowed us to get a BIG sound. Now its time to work on
    getting the professional dupe's made.

    Personally i didn't like the conversation at the end of wild things.
    IMO... Better in Heaven and Larry i think are done very well..

    Conatagious - A view from the Rockies.  :)
    
    Overall - EXCELLENT job doods !  The use of outboard gear is
    clean and adds to the quality of the demo.  I understand y'all
    used a 8-track cassette format - So whats the problem ?  :)
    There are all_original acts everywhere who are doomed; they'll
    hear this demo and cut their throats.
    
    Q1.  Did you record this "live" or one dood at a time ??
    Q2.  What kind of outboard gear did you use ??
    
    Overall sound of this guitar work is killer - typically Marshall.
    I smell Led Zeppelin and FNM all over the demo - a fine combo.

    Drum work is excellent - you truely have a unique sense
    of rhythm, and I mean that in a most complimentary way !!
    
    The songs:
    1.  Where The Wild Things Are.
    
    I love the break in this song - Excellent drum work and vocals.
    the wha-pedal did make me wanna stand up and shout "Shaft!", but
    I'm like that - ferget it !
    
    To answer the burning question:  "Yes, I have - quite a nice place to
    have visited too - wish I could make a living there"   :)  (sorry! :)

    This one is more my style.  I noticed that your rack toms seem kinda 
    hidden  in the mix at time, maybe just mud though.  Your guitarists
    tone is RIPPIN' - I love it, and the syncopation is the killer final
    touch.  So who belongs to the voice is that at the end ??
    
    3. Better In Heavn
    
    Excellent concept for the lyrics - I like 'em a lot.  This song smells
    of "The Jam" - Ever listen to 'em ??    The lead work is crankin' too.
    Gotta listen to this more and snarf the lix.  :)  Different vocalist ?
    This is close to my fave toon - I love toons with a concept...Gotta
    think on this one.
    
    4. Sick Henry
    I hear Zep influences everywhere on this one...FNM too.  My other fave
    toon.  I like the "pan job" on the break before the lead.

    Thanks for the great review. To answer you questions:
    
    It was recorded live except for the vocals and lead guitar. For the
    mixdown we used a Tascam 338 with all 8 channels running out to a
    Peavey 16 track mixing board. The effects looped into the tracks
    were Alesis Midiverbs. We also had a couple of EQ's and compressors
    on the final output to the DAT machine. I dont know to much about
    that stuff. We payed a friend $250 to do this for us. He did hoping
    that he could work with us if we ever get signed.
    
    Better in Heaven is sung by the guitarist. He's got an odd voice, but
    we dared to be different.
    
    My TOMS do get lost in the mix at some points. I think this is due to
    the fact that we recorded on cassette and are sort limited to how much
    dynamics we can get.
    
    As far as seeing us play live. We sound like whats on the tape, live,
    except there is more energy. The audience usually gets pretty crazy.

Yea Bob,

This mix is much improved over the unfinished tape I heard a while back! If
the mix-down dood did just this tape, he was worth it! 

Where the Wild things are: The guitar sorta reminded me of some older Creme
riffs. I love the way you guys just 'break', sending the tune into another
avenue. I can live with the 'vocal' extras at the end, cool by me! But I
didn't play it for my wife {8^0 !

Larry: This is my favorite of the four, mostly because of how tight your
drums (namely your bass-drum foot!) were with the bass playin'! This tune
has the 'hook' for me.

Better In Heaven: This song cleaned up nicely on the vocals. I may not have
listened to it enough, this one hasn't really grasped me yet. The guitars
came slashing through, perhaps a coupla cold ones then a listen will put me
in the right perspective!

Sick Henry: Hey, how many 'guys' on this tape anyway 8^) ?! My 2nd favorite
tune, it excellently carries and has good meaning to go with the flow.

Keep groovin', I want more songs to add onto this tape!

    I got the tape and heard it once so far. I'll put in a review once I've

    Id had tryed to book several shows there in the past, but I kept
    telling them we didnt want to do the BotB stuff. So they wouldnt
    book us. Hopefully, they will let us play on a fri or sat next..

    they will advertise you alot, but after you play the CGY nite, you
    hardly get any airplay...I guess they want to advertise the next
    group of upcoming bands. This happened to 2 bands I know. I hope

        Have everyone seen Contagious live yet?  I just stopped and check them 
    out last night.  Eventhough, they are not a death metal band (which is my 
    taste of music).  But, I think they are pretty good for their type of music
    Hopefully, with their perform live in the future at Greatwoods, etc....and 
    proceed to take their area by storm.  Myself, if the ever a band with their
    TYPE OF MUSIC from Ma. will make it big in the world, this will be the band
    to do it, and before long the entire world will be exposed to the morbid 
    sound that is......Ask Shawn (GTI) for more about the show.  Should check 
    them out sometime hey.

    Well, I got my tape!
    
    First off, I'd like to say the entire tape is great! Personally, my
    favs are the 1st and 2nd songs. Catchy chorus in the 1st, great groove
    in the 2nd.. 
    
    The mix was better than I was expected.. Great job! The only thing I
    didn't really care for was I thought the vocals were a bit to up front
    on the 3rd song.. but besides that, everything else was great.

    I finaly listened to mine in the headphones last night.  I really like
    the first song (but then again, I'm partial to wahwah's).  If this tape
    is to be used as a demo, I'd cut out the obsenities.  They won't help
    but could hurt.  When you finally get into the place you sent the demo
    to, then swear you hearts out!  :^)
    
    The rest of the tape is also very good, but that first song keeps
    sticking in my mind.  
    
    I liked the mix.  That's why I try to listen on headphones before
    commenting.  The mix sounded terrible on my stereo, but the accoustics
    in that room are lousy. Everything sounded pretty level.  I didn't 
    notice what JW mentioned.  I'll listen for that next time.
    
    All in all, EXCELLENT!!

        how its timed with the break. I like listening to it through
        headphones, because you can hear alot of the panned tricks that
        are in the mix. There is a bunch of things done with the echo levels
        and the panning that are tough to hear on OK stereos.  What did
        your daughter and her friends think of the tape? Thanks alot for

    Nantasket Beach on weekends when I was in Bedford classes. The
    routine used to be: ride the Paragon GIANT coaster to death in the

    a band a Uncle Sams at night. But this was quite a few years back!

    Got the Contagious tape in my hot little er,hand last night and thought
    it was g-g-g-reat.
    
    I reckon it`s a funny mix of Soundgarden/The Cult/Faith No More and
    Jimi Hendrix.
    
    The highspot for me is the vocals and the actually song writing. Good
    catchy songs,i reckon. Aye,nice one Bob. 
    
    I`ll be sending you my crap demo Gommorrah - Hellspawn (ho,ho) on

    Got my tape yesterday (many thanks Bob) and enjoyed listening to it.
    Reminded me A LOT of Sabbath and Soundgarden and the third song (I
    think) sounded to me very much like Hey Joe (Hendrix). I guess it was 
    that walking bass line.
    
    The singer at times reminded me of the guy from Tesla (not meant as an
    insult!!) and then at times like Lou Reed (def. no an insult), having
    said that, he does have a unique style (I guess I just contradicted
    myself).
    
    Haven't listened to it enough to do a proper review but I will do soon.

    The Great Woods show on June 26th has been changed to August 1st. They
    are supposed to be booking 5-10 nationals..This will be an all day
    event. I will post more as it becomes available.
    
    We are also 99.999% confirmed for a show with Siagon Kix and Slik Toxik

    	Well, here are my reviews of the shows and the tape ... sorry
    	this took so long:
    
    	Bob sent me the demo tape, and I've seen 2 shows ... 1 at Sir
    	Morgan's in Worcester, and 1 at Deringers in Brockton.  And
    	I'd like to thank Bob for inviting me to sound check at Der-
    	ingers ... there's alot that goes into these shows that we us-
    	ually don't realize when we get to a show at 9PM.
    
    	I'm not going to comment on sound quality, or production, but
    	I'll focus on the main idea of it ... the music.  Great stuff!!
    	I mean, if you're looking to mosh to it then there's not alot
    	of opportunity, but they're definitely talented musicians.  I'd
    	label them as "progressive alternative", with some metal/funk
    	thrown in for good measure.  The lead singer has a strong voice,
    	with good/very good range [not excellent, but not everyone can
    	be a Rob Halford], and has excellent stage presence.  He's not
    	a "statue" on stage like Ric Ocasek tends to be.  The Mohawk-
    	less guitarist wails when he wants to, and lays back when he
    	wants to.  I don't know much about bass, but the bassist looks
    	like he's good ... none of that "strum 1 bass note through the
    	whole song" crap.  And the drummer ... well, what can I say?
    	[Well, I know what I can say, but I think I'll tell the truth
    	instead.  8^)]  Great drumming, IMO ... some of their stuff
    	involves almost "thrashy" interludes, and Bob keeps up just
    	fine.  And I love the cowbell!!
    
    	Not knowing all of their material, I can't comment on the song
    	selection for the tape, as far as those 4 songs being their
    	best, but I like all the songs on it.  "Wild Things" is my
    	favorite, with "Larry" coming in second.  The other moderately-
    	paced song comes in 3rd [forgot the name].  "Better in Heaven"
    	is good, although different [slower than most of their stuff],
    
    	Looking back, it seems that I combined the concerts/tape review
    	into one.  Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter anyways.  Anyways,
    	definitely try and see this band if you can ... and don't be
    	turned off by the "alternative" label.  They're more of a "heavy
    	alternative", in case "alternative" to you means REM and The Cure.

    I am TOTALLY PHSYCHED.........I just got a call from the president of
    Relativity Records in NYC...he loved our tape and promo package. He
    is setting up a Showcase for us towards the end of June, probably at

    	Bob seems to listen to a lotta stuff I like so I figured I'd
    enjoy Contagious' stuff.  I was not disappointed!!
    
    	"Larry" rips!  As has been mentioned by a few others the groove
    kicks!!
    
    	Took me a couple listens to get used to the vocals in "Better In
    Heaven" but once I did... 8^)
    
    	I've played the tape for a few friends who listen to similar styles
    and they all give thumbs up.

    have to book us with a band that owns there own large PA. I hate

    I have a HUUGGEE favor to ask all of the HM noters in the MA,NH,RI
    area. I know that not may people have come to our shows, because we
    rarely play in the Worcester area. I would ask all of you if there
    is anyway possible to go to our Showcase for Relativity Records, please
    go!  This could be our big break and we need all of the support we can
    get. The problem is that I will only have a very short notice for the
    Showcase. Please do what you can to make it, because the Record Co.
    will look at that, too.
    
    The show will probably be at Derringers in Brockton. Im not sure what
    night. I talked to the club owners yesterday and they said they will
    open the club on an off nite just for us. So please make every effort
    you can to support us. I would do the same for anybody else's band in
    HM notes if this opportunity arises.
    
    I will post the show date when it becomes available.

    Everything is official: Our showcase is set for July 2nd at 8:00pm
    at TCB studio in Boston..They rented us a Soundstage for the gig.
    The soundman is one of the former "live" soundmen who worked with 
    Living Color. Unfortunatley, the label has asked it to be a closed
    session. Except for a few friends, we cant bring alot of people.:(
    I know that we have plans to go out after the gig to discuss the possible
    opportunities. The VP of the label is very excited about the whole
    thing. He's been calling us on a daily basis just to rap. Thats the
    scoop at this point. Ill probably wait until after thursday to give the
    next update/results!

    	any way possible, even if the band pays everyone $1 each just

ANYONE can get psyched to play in front of a few hundred folks,
perhaps they want to see if your stage show is cool when NO one
is there.  I personally find it tough to be a posin' fool if there
is only 5 drunks in the place....

    We practiced 4 or 5 times in the past week. The only other practice
    this week is teusday. I agree, never practice the night before a gig..
    its bad luck. Also, I have found that if the last practice before the
    gig sucks...the gig is usually great. No alcohol for this puppy from
    now until after the gig.....my hangovers usually last for days  :*)

    Everything did go very well...I dont want to elaborate beyond that to
    much, because I'd feel like an idiot if it falls through. At this
    point, It looks like we are going to get signed. He is looking into
    studio's and producers and also wants to contact our lawyer. He
    was very impressed with the live performance....especially the
    4 tunes that are on the DEMO. He wants us to send him a rough cut
    of our other tunes...so he can verify in his own mind that we can write
    strong tunes.....The "live performance" was ok in our opinions. It's
    very tough doing audience interaction/participation with hardly anybody
    there. Overall thought is that its going to happen...Its just a matter
    of time.

	Well, I wanna do a good review, but the tape player here
	at work keeps eating tapes...


	So far... TNT - RF, Iron Madien - KIJ (?), Vinnie Moore - Meltdown
	and a bunch of other have been eaten...

	So here is what I think....

	Well, overall I like it a lot!!!    I have some problems with
	a few of the songs...   I love the last one....

	Basically here is what is wrong  (just a couple of things,
	every thing else is really great!!!!)
	
	1st song  -  too much Wah-wah in my opinion...  A good song
			but that wah-wah does give it an alternative feel
			(but none the less, still cool)

	2nd song  -  A very cool song, the only thing that gets on my nerves
			is the way he 'whines' "larry", aside from that
			a cool song.
			
	3rd song  -  A good song, I bit slower, but still very good.

	4th song  -  My favorite, no problems at all, a cool tune!!!


	Overall, as I said it is really great, just those two things get
	on my nerves a bit.

	As far as over all sound goes, I think the demo is well done.
	I can definately see why you guys will get signed...
	

	oh, one more thing that I don't really care for..   The picture..
	Something about the picture of that guy on the front, is a turn off.

    Update: We have a meeting with our lawyer tonite. Relativity's lawyer
            has already spoken with our lawyer and they are currently
            putting together the deal. Tonite we are going to discuss the
    	    album budget amongst other items.

    Budget's are no big thing.  Realize that Shotgun just recorded their
    latest album (2nd Coming) on $100K (dats cheap!), and it sounds great!
    
    The key item in budgets is the producer.  A good producer can get the
    most bang for the buck.  So, if they come back with a figure that 
    seem relatively (no pun int.) low, don't fret, just make sure you
    have it all worked out in pre-production before you setp foot inside
    the studio door!

    Im sure we will be learning about all of that stuff quickly. I know
    that Relativity has some producers in mind, but I dont know who they
    are yet.

    Well it still sounded good to me Bob!  Although the guitar could have

    The versions of the songs you played sounded good.  I only know the 4
    that were on the demo, but I couldn't tell that anything was missing
    from them.  I'll have to hear what it sounds like when you have the
    sound the way you want it!

    So Ken....What's your first impression of the "Live" demo?...I forgot

    I have been listening to the live demo today.  First thoughts -- Good,
    sounds as good as the studio demo...doesn't sound "live" at all!!  I
    like the new tunes, esp. Gun (which rips!).

    B.-- Everything is miked up through a 16 channel board directly into
    an ordinary 2 track cassette deck. There is a reverb and delay looped
    into a couple of the channels. The guy who's been helping us all along
    knows how to get a decent sound with cheap or little equipment. 
    
    Everything is definitley live....no overdubs....as a matter of fact..
    we could'nt record backup vocals, because 2 of our mic's fried that day.
    
    My thought was that it came out good...could be better.

    recording, the sound quality was very good.
    
    Can't comment on individual songs though as I only heard them once and

    Your original demo is probably a couple of generations old...it tends
    to lose a bit of its punch every copy down.
    
    The Live stuff is right off the master...so not much got lost in the
    copy down process.

    1 channels guitar
    1 channnel bass
    1 Channel Lead Vocal- with delay looped in
    1 Channel bass drum
    1 channel snare    ---with reverb looped in
    1 channel rack toms

    1 channel Overhead PZM
    1 channel floor tom
    
    
    The big thing was to get all of the channels to sound meshed together
    and at relatively the same volume, while trying to obtain the correct
    sound with the EQ's and effects for each individual channel.

    I don't have a "band", just my bud that I write songs with.  He and I
    are going to start another recording project pretty soon.
    
    I think after Jeff recovers from the childbirth thing, he's planning on
    going back to the studio to remix one of the songs on the Hardball
    demo, but I'm not sure.  He was also talking about getting that guy to
    dump the tape tracks to another machine so he could mess with 'em
    himself (without the studio time costs).  We'll see what he decides to
    do.  If it was up to me, we'd go remix the whole Hardball demo thing,
    but it's probably not worth it now, since the band's kaput.

    Cool, I'd be real interested.  Also interested in what mikes you used
    for what and all too.  But we should probably take it to mail though,

    I donno, it's more so an accent I hear as opposed to a certain tone. It
    could be the bell of a cymbol, really.  Basically, I hear the first
    measure as your "a typical" Latin groove, going into a straight ahead
    4/4 rock thing for the 2nd measure.  These two measures seem to repeat
    for that "A section" which is equal to the verse of the song, I guess
    the chorus would be the B section, and the bridge could be considered
    the C section.
    
    Typically in latin grooves, a drummer will accent "2 and" with a
    rim-shot, and beats "4-and, ah" (last two beats of a sixteenth set over
    beat 4) with a mounted tom.  That gives the classic latin sound, which
    I don't think you want for this tune, but the accents would work well
    in any case, just use a different sound source for the "2-and" &
    "4-and, ah" beats.

    I got ya...Ill try those accents on the ride bell. I used to play
    a little more in the tune, but it sounded to busy for the rate
    of speed the song is played at. 
    
    Thanks for the advice-Ill let you know if I get yelled at for ADDING
    one more item to the tune. I wont actually get yelled at,but Im
    always trying to put little things here and there in tunes and I
    always hear "oh no....this is gonna be another tune we cant drink
    before playing" (we dont drink before playing anyways...usuallynot)

    Yeah, I've been listening through the tape.  I forget the names of
    all the tunes off-hand, but there are some I *really* like and some
    that frankly just don't catch my ear at all.  I'll listen to it at
    lunch and post a more coherent mini-review afterwards.

    Ill give a brief update on where we are at with the Label. We agreed
    on the Deal Memo after the 2nd pass with some changes in our favor.
    Our lawyer got the 1st draft of the agreement last week (35 pages)
    He went through it, made his comments and sent it back to the Label.
    He and the label are negotiating alot of the pionts....some we will
    get, some we will not....We sat down with our lawyer lastnite to
    go over the contract. His views are that we should have it cleaned
    up in about 2-3 weeks....Its a typical type agreement with lots of
    ambigous wording and voids that need to be filled so nobody gets
    screwed over.

    Thanks for that live demo Bob!  The best song on there I thought was

    	The guitar solo in it is great!  I like it also because of that

    And what does DOF stand for?  That was a pretty good song too.
    
    Everything sounded good the way it was miked.  There was one drum that
    sounded a tad loud though.  I don't know if it was the snare or what
    (not being a drummer myself.)  It was one of the higher pitched ones.
    But everything else was fine.
    
    Least favorite song I'd have to say was Gun.
    
    Good luck on your record contract!  35 pages huh?  Sounds like
    something you most definately have to read before you sign!

    listening on the drive in this morning. I agree that for a live tape 
    it is pretty crisp. More reviewing after hearing more of the tape

      I've been through the tape a couple times and I'd say that these
    three are musts for the EP:
    
      Where the Wild THings are
      Scrambled Eggs
      Gun
    
      I really enjoyed just about everything on the tape. I didn't really 
    care that  much for "Better in Heaven" but that's just my taste. The three 
    I listed above are obviously my favorites. I can see why you've got the 
    deal in the works. You get a good producer and take these tunes in a major
    studio and I betcha you'll have a killer debut! 
      But I'll always hang onto my original Contagious demo - could be a 
    collectors item!

    Well, if you're going for the HM audience first, then WHAT and GUN are
    *must* tunes imho...they're rockin!  Larry also has a killer rock
    groove.  BIH is more alternative, as is Sic henry, but that song is
    very dark, making it middle of the road.

    Hmm...  I would say start it with "Where the Wild Things Are" and end
    it with "Sic Henry" (which is spelled sicK, on MY demo...). 
    Personally, I wouldn't even consider ending it with BiH.  It's an ok
    song, but it takes a long time to get into (at least for me) and I
    think it'd be better to have something strong at both ends.
    
    As for the rest, I don't know.  I've  only listened to the live demo as
    a whole, and wasn't watching the song titles, so I'm not sure on that. 
    I would say *definately* include "Scrambled Eggs", excellent tune!

Bob, I got the live tape in the mail this morning - thanks!!!

I gave it a listen on the way into work today, and here are some comments
after the first listen-through. Keep in mind that this was just one listen,
and I might feel differently after listening more times to them. But I 
figure a first-time review might be helpful also, since that's how many
people will judge it....

This is a great song! However, if I might play role of producer for a minute,
I would rearrange it somewhat. First, you know where the bridge is after
the second chorus, where it slows down? I would add lyrics to that section
instead of having the guitar solo start there (to my ears, the guitar solo
seems a little too extended). Then, when it speeds up again, that's when I 
would have the guitar solo start. Also, I think at the end of the song, I
would have the chorus ("Stop staring at me....") repeat again, then end the
song that way. (I listened to this one several times, so I could get a good
idea of how I'd rather hear it - this one isn't based on one listen).)

> Scrambled Eggs

I like this song a lot! The only suggestion I have is that you should change
the title to "Yesterday Is Gone" (yeah, I understand the McCartney reference).
Personally, this song reminds me of Pearl Jam, and could actually be 
considered for the first single. If that's the case, you'd have to have a more
recongnizable title.

I didn't like this one that much, seemed to ramble a little too much.

This was ok, but not great. Better than DOF, but not as good as the first
two songs.

    ConTaGiOuS were awesome last night at Derringers!  They sounded really
    good, way better than the Sir Morgans show!
    
    The crowd loved them too.  People were moshing the whole set.  There
    were more people up in front of the stage for Contagious than there
    were for the main act B'zerker.  
    
    Can't remember all the songs they played, but I know they did 
    
    Where the wild things are,
    Gun,
    Sick Henry,
    Down,
    Better In Heaven,
      and a couple cover tunes that I didn't know.

    We have decided on a Studio: Sound Techniques in Boston. We are going
    to do a 2 week lockout. Unfortunatly Extreme has the studio locked out
    until Sept 27. Fortunatley, they are taking a week off between now and
    Spet 27th. We will lockout the week when they are not there and get all
    of the tracking done. Then we will probably go back on Sept 28th for a
    week to do the mixing. When dates become finalized, Ill post them for
    anybody who might be interested.

    I bet the two weeks is simply for Basic's and OD's, with a week's
    worth of mixing to be scheduled at a later date.

    Thats for the entire thing....We are fairly quick at doing the basics
    and overdubs.....We have been practicing this stuff alot. If we happen
    to need more time, thats not going to be a problem.

    Well we got out 04 number from the IRS yesterday...now we are a legal
    business and have to pay taxes..:*(....Our name search came up with no
    other parties using Contagious as a band name. Therefore, the trademark
    paperwork has been filed..(cost $1000-$1500)..Our name should be a
    fully registered trademark within 6-9 months. Geesh the government
    moves so slow.
    
    We have been practicing alot lately getting ready for the studio. We
    are working on song edits, vocal overdubs, guitar overdubs...We are
    scheduled to go into full pre-production on Sept 19th-20th to get
    everything hammered out. I know a few of the songs are going to have
    some accoustic rythym overdubs to enhance the sound...That should sound
    really cool...especially on Henry.
    
    After we do the recording we our going to NYC for a signing
    party/gig......probably at the Marquis.

    I think GTun is sort of the perfect "cross over" single ... appeals
    to the funky metal crowd, the heavy metal crowd, and the alternative
    crowd in one sweep.  But again, that's all dependant on production
    (I'm basing this on your demo).

    Has bane image/marketing been discussed yet??  I'm curious as to the
    look the band and videos will be going in.  "Wild things" almost
    conveys a Psuedo-60's "hangin with Janis" type of imagery.  BIH
    could sway that way, too, but also fits in with the "flannel shirts 
    and cut off's" Seattle look.
    

    Image is going to be discussed this weekend. In past discussions we
    were looking at sort of a grungy look (wo flannel)...NOT POSER....an
    edgy type of image...noc clean shaved....not neatly dressed..etc.
    
    The marketing has been dicussed. Here is the "tentative" route we
    are going to take:
    
    Projected singles to the radio stations  US wide in the beggining of Dec. 
    for airplay.
    EP to the radio stations US wide last week in December (after
    XMAS)....Airplay for 3-4 weeks...then the EP will be formally
    released across the US/Europe/Japan the 3rd week in January.
    Also, the EP will be reviewed in all of the major trade rags.
    Advertising will be done in most of the musician magazines.
    
    Somewhere in this time the video's will hit MTV. Im not sure when.
    
    If everything goes on schedule...they want to have us on the road the
    2nd week in Febuary.  Another band they just signed "Overwhelming
    Colorfast" has hooked up with the Ramones tour. They are hoping to
    get us on with a large act....We will see what happens!
    On the road...we will have in-store visits and radio interviews setup
    along the way for each City we play in.                           
    
    This is all really strange...I still cant beleive its happening!

    4 piece where one person had a "seattle" look, another a "posuer
    spandex" look, another a "leather and studs" look, and a 4th in
    "Cali beachwear" ... it just wouldn't work.

    PK's/JV would have fit VERY comfortably into the "seattle" look.

    The problem was, that they all wanted a DIFFERNT look.  Almost void
    of any cohesive image.  Like Stevie K used to do this spandex thing,
    methinks a throwback to his SOCIAL ANIMALS poser days.  Con and myself
    were pretty cohesive with a "scruffy biker" image, and the drummer had
    this "David Lee Roth" kind of image.  Again, it just didn't gel
    together, and there was no real interest from the members to try and
    get it together.

    Yep, sound kinda strange (at best).  From the musical style, I'd say
    the "biker" or "flannel" image would have fit best.  Spandex?  DLR? 
    Sheesh, too strange!
    
    I've been wearing those flannel shirts (usually open over a t-shirt)
    for years.  I never knew it was trendy...  Just wanted to be warm and

We were at Squid Hell last friday working on our project, and I mentioned you
guys to our engineer and turns out he spoke with you down at Newbury's ?! His
name is Drew Townsend. 

He sounded a little bummed he didn't get the work, but Relativity has asked
to hear some of his other stuff so something positive may still happen for him.

We let Drew play supporting guitar on a tune  ;^)

    Our luck is that the Village people will be doing a reunion tour and
    will probably back us up....
    
    Well the 6 songs for the EP have been finalized. Some people might not
    agree with the choice, but we also tried to put something together that
    would show a wide variety of our style. Here they are:
    
    Wild Things  (1 version as is...1 version without thrash part, 1
                  version with 1/2 guitar solo)
    
    Larry           AS IS
    
    Better In Heaven  (repeat chorus 4x at the end with the music fading on
                       the 3rd in to Jim playing straight accoustic for the
    		       4th)
    
    Sic Henry            AS IS
    
    Gun                 Mixed percussion in the 1/2 time part
    
    DOF			Totally revamped guitar section....alot of dynamics
    			worked into the entire song.
                                                             

    Fwiw, I like the song selection.  No quams here.

    I thought that people that heard DOF would be like uuugghh....but
    with the production we are putting into it, the song building and
    the various ear candy...it should kick.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record.... I would have *much* 
preferred "Scarmbled Eggs" over "DOF".... then again, I think that most of
the songs are better than "DOF", which I didn't like a whole lot.

Could be cool. I've seen some poor songs get resurrected by good arrangements 
and production.

Other than that, I thought the list was pretty good! Maybe not all my personal 
favorites, but that's just nit-picking. I guess the new songs just weren't

    I think that's a good song selection, I have no complaints.  Like Alan,
    I would have liked to see Scrambled Eggs in there, but I can kind of
    understand the reasoning behind not including it, since it's a little
    bit of a different sound for you.

    would be in violation of our contract....We'd be like promoting
    our own bootleg....We could have problems if the label found out.

    Well the session is going very good so far....The basics, guitar
    doubles and accent guitars are done so far for the following tunes:
    
    Wild Things, Larry, Better in Heaven, Henry, Gun, DOF, Scrambled Eggs,
    Taste my World, Ten years later and Took my smile away.
    
    Its alot of fun so far, but its definitly alot of work; playing the
    tunes many time to capture the exact energy you want to have on the
    final take.....
    
    Today we are working on the guitar leads and vocals....

    song have some speed fluctuations, buts its not a bad thing where they

    God..Its tough coming back to work....after an excellent 2 weeks!
    
    We have booked 3 more days in the studio to re-tweek the mix. Its was
    really tough to mix right after the tracking....You tend to get
    ear-burn after a while. The current mix is very good, but it could be
    a bit better....So we decided to take a week off and then go back in to
    finish up the project. Overall, the sound is great. If anybody is ever
    down near SHR and wants to stop in and take a listen let me know.

    23,24,25....The whole project went very well....Weve spent about
    $20,000 up to this point...which really isnt to bad...we are a bit
    over the original budget of $10,000, but the label has NO problems
    with that....
    
    The tape will be mastered probably during the 1st week of
    November.
    
    At this point it looks like we will be using TVI out of Chicago to shoot
    the video. It will be done sometime during November.
    
    Also, it looks like we will be doing a small road trip during November.

	- Wow, you guys spent up to 20K for?  I friend from (Immolation)
	  same label as you guys.  Went to some studio in Germany to 
	  recoreded their LP, total cost not even 10k for.  They still 
	  have few $$$ left from 10K from RC record.

	- My other friends from (Vital Remains) on Peaceville label.  
	  They recorded some where around this area and only cost 5K.

    You just have to be careful that you don't nickel and dime yourself
    to death - something that is very easy to do.
    
    We tried to be frugal when the band cut it's one and only 45, but
    when it came to road equipment, look out!  We had at least $20
    grand sunk into our PA system and this was 10 years ago.  We
    suffered heavily from the "But I just *have* to put one more gadget
    in that empty slot in the rack" syndrome and pretty soon our
    rack grew to 3 racks...

    A band that I worked for 10 years ago spent several thousand
    putting out a 4 song, double 45 recorded at a local cheesy
    16 track studio.  (Not that 16 track is all cheesy, mind you.
    The studio was cheesy and would have been even with all the
    latest state-of-the-art stuff. :-)

    Bad news Bob.  I was in Tower records today, and I saw that there's
    already a band named Contagious....  I think their a christian metal
    band judjing by the song titles.   I couldn't believe my eyes when I
    saw the insert that said Contagious on it!  I looked in there half
    expecting to see an album with you guys on it but knowing it couldn't
    be!  And alas.... it was some other band... exact same name and
    spelling.

    We did check with the state and federal trademark offices and
    there are no bands listed with the name Contagious....If they are still
    around, they have a problem unless been around before 88. Becuase we
    have proof that the bands been around that long. Also, we are now
    registered with the Federal trademark offices. Most bands dont go
    through that hassle becuase it cost $1000-$1500......If they are
    still around...we will have our lawyer send them a "Cease to
    Exist letter".......Thanks ken for the info...but Im not really

    Our lawyer is contacting their label to see if the band is still in
    existense. Their release came out in 1988 on Regency Records...We
    could have a problem...we will have to wait and see....

    I got a chance to hear a brief overview of the Contagious EP today
    (during a mad, lunchtime CD swap)!
    
    
    First Impression?  ROOLIN!!!  Everything I liked about the EP, only
    better recorded!  Sounds great!  The only weird thing was Better In
    Heaven ... sounded kind of "light" in comparison to the Demo version?!
    We'll see how it comes out post-mastering.
    
    The new tune RIPS!!  Very "Jane"-like.  Roolin.

    Well our lawyer, trademark attorney and the label lawyer looked into
    the other band Contagious...It seems there label "Regency" went out
    of business and was bought out....The record is no longer in press..
    and there is no listing for the name in any of the industry band
    listings.....Therefore, CoNTagioUS is ours!!!!! to keep!!
    
    Whhheeewww....I was bumming thinking we had to come up with another
    name....Woulda probably been something like Mystic...umm..er..ferget

    - Pedal board which included cry baby wah, Boss DD-3, Boss-OC2, and one

    without being a copycat sound! Loved the drumming and that was before I

    FWIW- Anybody who has heard the Original demo  and the new recording
          might be wondering what happened to the dialogue during the solo
          and the ending of "Where the Wild Things Are". That dialogue came
          from the movie "Blue Velvet". Warner Bros. wanted $8000....thats
          right 8k for the 1 min 5 sec sample we used in the song.......

    The Photowork for the album,promo and publicity stuff is being done
    friday by BC Cagen in Boston. We are going to do a few inside shots..
    then probably go to the South Boston Industrial park or over near the
    Channel to take the outside shots....
    
    The album artwork is pretty close to being done...It should be wrapped
    up by November 20th at the latest. Cant really mention what its going
    to be yet...but it will definitley reflect another human interest
    story......
    
    I think I already mentioned back a few notes that we will be mastering
    at Masterdisk with Howie Weinberg on Nov 18th....Myself and the singer
    are going to take a train down to NYC that AM to watch the process...

    sounds (legendary) :*) .....Unbelievable....Major difference from
    the tape that came directly from the studio....Im like SOOO happy
    with the job that Howie did!!! It only took him 3 passes for each
    song....What a setup they have down at Masterdisk.......As for
    other band happenings...a copy of the tape was taken to AAF and
    they loved it....they want to do our release party...whcih will
    happen early in 93....The photo's came out good and the cover art
    is almost done! There's alot of other things going on, but I wont
    bother anybody with all of that stuff....BTW- I met Lou Reed when

Bob Ludwig at MasterDisk is truly a legend in the music industry. MasterDisk
is the premier mastering house in the country, and almost any major release
is done there.

Didn't Ludwig just leave them a month or two ago, though? I thought he moved
up to Maine, and is setting up his own shop there.....

Bob, I'm glad that you're happy with the final master. I know there were some
things we talked about via mail about the sound - do you feel like they
fixed most of those problems?

    via EQ and compression and some other device that expands the music
    while the compressor is compressing it......

    Well the show on Saturday went very well according to alot of the
    people there...My personal thoughts was that it was one of my worst
    shows....I got a nasty cold on friday...then about 2 hours before we
    went on...I got a fever....felt like I was going to pass out thoughtout
    the show....I had to reserve myself in order to stay awake...so for me
    it stunk....There was about 300+ people there and the crowd was pretty

    Do you know if AAF is getting a CD Compilation??  We could flood them
    with calls!

    Supposedly they will have it by the end of the week. Relativities rep
    for AOR radio will be working them to play it. Its unlikely that it
    will get played during the day, becuase its on a comp. disk and
    stations tend to play that stuff at nite (after 10:00) At least thats
    what Im being told...Try calling them next week..I guess there's a tune
    by Extreme and Flotsam Jetsam on it. There's a few other artist on it,
    but I cant remember who they are at the moment...I should be getting a
    copy in a couple of days...then I can post the information if anybody's

    Relativity just recieved 2000 advance copies of the EP. Im having them
    send me up 50.....If I have any extra...would anybody want one?? Im a
    bit leary on giving a ton away, because people wont buy the record..

    It has a basic j card cover....its not the final artwork....that wont
    be out until the final EP comes out......
    
    We are currently working on the date/location/guest list for the Boston

    The Relativity X-mas party on 12-22 went very well...We played a 40
    minute set. During Larry we brought their dir of Distrubution up
    to sing the chorus...his names larry...so we figured we'd joke with
    him....Overall, everybody thought that we pulled off a great set...
    Besided the RLTVTY staff other people in attandance were.....
    Pres of Columbia records, Howie Weinberg, Few Editors from Billboard,
    some MTV staff people....I cant remember all of the name off hand.
    There was about 225 people at the party.......Free food (cajun) and
    an open bar.....was alot of fun...
    
    We also have some tour possibilities shaping up...Steve Vai is
    interested in having us go on the road with his new band if our
    release schedules coincide....That would be scary for me....cause
    Bozzio's playing drums....YIKES! Im not sure if this is going to
    happen. It really depends on the schedules of the 2 bands....
    
    Also, we will be back in the studio in Jan-Feb to record 3 new tunes;
    I beleive, Ten Years Later and Grave Built for One........

    My current P_N contains a Larry phrase.....I think I should tell
    everyone a brief story about Larry...Larry is crazy, but he thinks
    everybody else is....His screwed up parents institutionized him back
    in the early 60's cause they coudnt handle him (adolescents)....he
    had a years of medications/shock treatments.....etc.....needless to
    say.....he's out there.....Well now for the story.......
    
    One of my buddies owns Music Unlimited in Hanover,MA...Larry frequents
    the story almost daily....One day he came in and asked the owner to
    come out and take a look at his car he bought a few months back..(yes
    Larry has his drivers license)......They went out to Larry's car and
    sat inside....checking out the interior....popped the hood and the

    BTW - Larry makes his own guitars....He buys the wood and carves
    everything out...installs the electronics....frets...everything..
    I saw one of them...it was a GIANT S...the guitar was about
    6' long...The fret boards on his guitars are not perfect...

    			RELATIVITY'S TEMPERATURE RISES
    		     WITH NEW ROCK ACT SIGNING: CONTAGIOUS


    	Relativity proudly announces the signing of the Boston-based rock act,
    Contagious, by Cliff Cultreri, Senior VP of A&R.

    	The four-piece band's explosive seven-song debut EP, Another Human
    Interest Story, will be released on March 9.  Contagious' music combines
    reality-based lyrics with psychedelia and rock to create a deviant heavy
    sound that lies in the alternative hard rock arena.  The songs are driven
    by power guitar, and extremely solid rhythm section and distinctive, edgy
    vocals.

    	According to Clutreri, "Contagious have put together a great debut
    ep. The band has a sort of twisted sound and listening to the record is
    like watching a Fellini or Lynch movie. Contagious is tight and really
    delivers live.  It's a strong signing for Relativity and we're excited to
    introduce the band to the marketplace."

    	Contagious band members look forward to a respite from the
    nine-to-five day-job grind to focus on their first priority -- music. 
    The group's "holiday" will begin with their tour in support of Another
    Human Interest Story this spring.  A full-length release is scheduled for
    autumn 1993.

    No- Jim emulated it....Jim works in the music store so he see's Larry
    almost daily......Larry came into the store the other day and said:

    Its quite ironic, because Jim and I were discussing this lastnite..Jim
    is going to let Larry hear the song...very soon!!...he's not going to
    tell him what the song is about....Larry should be able to figure it
    out....I think if we told him this song is *personally* about him and

    Got the first storyline from a video director for the song Larry. The
    director has some very cool concepts...We have narrowed it down to 3
    possible directors...Im waiting for their concepts to come in...We will
    be down in NYC friday viewing reels and decideing which director we
    will use....When a decsision has been reached, Ill post the video

    We have picked the Director for video. It will be shot the 1st week in
    Feb... Also, we now have our own agent...he also works with Pantera,
    White Zombies, Skid Row...etc...Other happenings:
    
    Larry has been added to the AAF sunday nite show.
    
    In 2 weeks aproximately 20,000 Promotional copies of Larry/Taste my World
    will be sent out to all of the chains and major mom and pop shops (5000
    targeted for Boston). They will be given away when anybody purchases
    music in the rock, HM, and alternative styles....a promo to hopefully
    get people to come back and buy the CD.......

    Well...to start off...Im not complaining!....the pressure is starting
    to mount (like a dog on your leg)...The time is getting close...and Im
    feeling like Im going crazy.....Alot of wondering....hows this gonna
    work out...how will my family do...will I have money to survive...the
    pressure from keeping a consistant night after night performance...Having 
    to take so much time off of work....work piling up....I will be out 7
    days of the next 10...and Im told that as it gets closer...we will need
    more time off..........Im not complaining....Just alot of things Im
    thinking about and need to ventilate.....Happenings.....Ed's doing 10
    interviews in the next week.....We have a 1 hour radio show to host
    down in NYC next friday...The video will be shot in 4 days during the
    following week.........3 photo shoots on Jan 30th in NY.............
    Im rambling endlessly, but thats what my mind.........
