Yeah, that part is really funny! I'd seen the film dozens of times
before and had never noticed that until I saw it just recently. John
Bonhem(sp?) looks at John Paul Jones with this look like "What's he
doing?" and JPJ just shrugs his shoulders. I was rolling!
Personally, I like it when bands stretch out and improvise. If I
wanted to hear it exactly like on the album, I'd play the album.

| Any of your bands do that? Practice something else and then
jump into somethings else in your live show? I think it's
more fun like that if the band understand each other.
Had any band happen doing something similar to the Led Zepline's show?
Tell us about it.............

The lead guitar player/singer in one of the bands I worked for would
occasionally *forget* parts of a song when he'd had a few drinks.
He'd launch off into something totally wrong and the rest of the band
would try to follow him. It usually ended up sounding OK. It got
really hilarious when he forgot lyrics, so he'd make some up as he
went along. They were usually rude. The crowds at the sort of
clubs we played really liked it though, so it was cool.

at the mixing board and the rest of the band members."

My drummer will do sh!t like that live all the time...
We will pratice something like an end of a song, then when we go to do
it live he goes and does something totaly different... So I will turn
around and flick a guitar pick at him, i'm two for three.....

| I want to play in a Ramones/Clash/Damned style band. (I play bass).
Anyone round Reading area interested?? It`d be really simple and easy,
(`cos only about 2-3 chords would be involved),and within 2 weeks,we
could do a gig or wot not.
Anyone interested?
Probably not.

RE: forgetting things, it was funny (and ever interesting) to hear
Ozzy being interviewed the other day and he mentioned those quiet
times during songs when he'd be the only one doing or supposed to
be doing something and he'd forget the words to things he'd been
doing for years. It happens to us all for instance..

Another great mistake that I have on tape. During the last Who tour
when they did Tommy "Live" in NY and in LA. The LA show was televised
and I got it on tape. During the song Sally Simpson when Pete and Roger
are trading off vocals, one verse comes up and they both just stop and
look at each other while the music plays on, finally they both loose it
and start laughing saying "That was your line" and "no it wasn't that
was your line". It was great.

One other reason (there's many) for studio/live sound being different
is it's hard for most guitarist to play 15 guitars at once. Yea I'm
exaggerating but not too far off in some cases.

| I think it's sad that so many bands these days think it's imperative
that they duplicate the sound on their albums *exactly* in concert.
They end up adding a bunch of sampled sounds or tape backgrounds to the
show and ruins the live feel and/or spontaneity of the show.
I'd much rather see a rough live show, down and dirty, with a lot of
energy then some slick production that sounded just like the CD!

Yup, that sounds just like the Boston based band Bob Evans (I hate
descriptions 'cause I stick at 'em but post-punk-squared might not
be too off) who I had initially liked a couple tracks of theirs I
had heard on 'MBR (M.I.T...) I had hoped to see 'em earlier but
ended up picking up their disc prior to but enjoyed it overall too
but their live show add the spontaneity, energy, and roughness you
mentioned.
