Great release!!! I think the lineup is discussed in the Pearl Jam
note but... Temple of the Dog was a tribute to the singer of Mother
Love Bone. Members include people from Soundgarden, MLB (now in Pearl
Jam), and I think, Green River.
If I remember I'll bring in the cd and enter the actual lineup.
The cd is kinda hard to find but well worth it!

For the sake of redundancy (and continuity).
When I first looked for their disc I didn't see it anywhere around the
Boston area - a couple months ago though I got it in Newbury Comics,
if memory...most likely.

Vox, Harmonica, Banjo - Chris Connel (Soundgarden)
Lead Guitars - Mike McCready
Rhythm, Slide, Acoustic Guitars - Stone Gossard
Bass - Jeff Ament
Susan Silver, their manager also manag-ed (-es?) Nirvana - if I ever
get to it I'll post some extracts from a recent Goldmine issue - the
Aberdeen/Olympia/North West, and OH yea, WTF, Seattle article.

OUr friend was visiting this week and was playing Temple Of The Dog
marathons to drive me crazy. I even know most of the lyrics now...
I'm not saying these guys are that bad but "I'm growing HUNGRY" half a

This album is great. I don't care what you people think!
I played it for a friend, and he liked it so much he wants to buy
himself a copy! And he hasn't even heard of Soundgarden or Pearl Jam!

| Note that I didn't say I don't *like* Chris Cornell, Soundgarden,
Temple of the Dog, or whatever else he might have been on, but his
voice is really pretty poor. It has a thin, grating tonality when he
pushes it, like he does on about 90% of what he sings. It's nasty! It
becomes obvious how bad Chris's voice really is on "Hunger Strike"
where he's trading off lines with Eddie Vedder (who has a great
voice).

but I enjoy listening to them both. (but I cringe sometimes at Chris'

I work on weekends B^(.
Overall the album was well done and Chris Cornell's work is good, Chris
is much better on the Single's Soundtrack with his solo song - the
title eludes me ...

Chris Cornell has one of the most powerful voices around at this time.
Temple of the Dog is a good album but in no way does justice to this
guy's talents.....now badmotorfinger...

| I think he shines on Badmotorfinger. The type of songs on TOTD, are
suited to that as much as Eddie Veddr who sang back-up. I like Chris
but Eddie has overall flexability that Chris doesn't.

If EV has an overall flexability then he has yet to show it. I'm
afraid his material so far has bored me. Chris Cornell's voice has the
same kind of effect on me as say Geoff Tate on earlier Queensryche
albums in that it goes straight in and grabs you by the goolies. 8^)

I agree. I think the vocal ranges of EV are wider than CC *except*
for the screams. In comparision, Ten vs. Badmotorfinger, Ten wins hands
down, IMHO.

| Because I've sung most of my life, I just gotta say that I like Chris
Cornell AND Eddie Vedder very much, but like, one's a floor wax and
one's a desert topping -- meaning that, (as some of you can attest to),
I love to sing CC songs (Say Hello to Heaven, Pushin Forward Back) when
I just wanna scream and let it all out and be able to "take it easy"
musically.. cause with CC, you always get to sing on the beat, even if
you gotta scream some real high notes. But with Eddie, man, you gotta
be on top of your game musically, cause his vocals are very subtle and
his phrasing is as intricate as Billie Holiday's ever was.. he's rarely
on the beat; often just behind it.. and he adds little inflections that
are very difficult to reproduce exactly. Vedder is truly a gifted
vocalist, but Cornell has moments when you're feelin so emotional that
you just want someone to sing a song for you and scream it all out..

I think there both great singers whose vocals in TOTD went together
very well. I love both Badmotorfinger and Ten, and I'm sorry they
won't be singing together again. (At least in the near future)
Having TWO quality lead singers in a group adds so much more to
what a band can do. Especially with the two different styles
in which they sang.
Just $.02 from someone who liked Hunger Strike
