If you forget to "X" that stupid box and send the card in, I think you
can write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the package and send it back to 'em.
At least the BMG CD club works that way.

There's some sort of liquidation sale going on at Record^mania in
Framingham, route 9 eastbound.
Why would anyone shop at the store right now the street? The one
time I was there in curiosity mode I found the prices to be
relativily/ridiculously high.

indestructible CD's were when they first came out? If they are so
indestructible then why do about half of my cd's have atleast 1
skip on them? No it's not because my dog uses them as his toys; I'm
EXTREMELY careful with them. I guess the most conclusive proof I
have that CD's are by no means indestructible is that I heard the
extended version of a song on the radio yesterday (unfortunately it
wasn't meant to be extended, but the skips made the song last about
2 minutes longer than usual).

CDs really *are* fairly indestructible! I've been into CDs since 1984 or so,
when they first came out. Between my roommate and myself, we currently own
well over a thousand CDs. Know how many of them skip? None! Know how many I've
had to return as defective? None!
I firmly believe that almost all CD skipping problems are caused by the
players, not by defective CDs!!! (Especially, Jeff, if HALF your CDs skip,
that definitely says its the player, not the disks themselves....)

| There are very great chances that the CD player has a problem. A friend of mine
has a good CD player but which skips or gets confused when playing long CDs
(over 60 mins). There are also some new CDs which are already bad from the
begining (I had 2).

Re: The earlier discussion on record/tape/cd clubs...
You *can* write "return to sender" when receiving material not
ordered from those clubs. To avoid this hassle in the future and
postage (from returning those monthly order cards) simply pen a letter
saying you're sick of the hassle. Ask to have the usual information
sent but without the stipulation where if the card is not returned in
x amount of days, the "selection of the month" will be sent.

Will a place like Columbia even listen to you if you ask them to stop
forcing you to send those cards back every month? They probably wont
seeing as that's how they make a good deal of their business, from
people who forget to return the cards. If it is possible to get them
to stop sending those "if you do nothing, you will get..." cards, tell
me and I'll do it!
thanks,

Re: Jeff
Yup, Columbia will listen to you, they listened to me. A friend
of mine told me about this. They kept sending him stuff because he
never returned the cards. He kept sending the packages back, unopened
of course. I think the packages say "return postage guaranteed". They
grew tired of wasting postage and put him on a "special" list which
meant he didn't have to return the cards.
I figured I'd try writing them a letter saying I was sick of wasting
time, postage, etc. They said fine and now I receive all their regular
info but the order card has nothing about "if you do not return.....".
Give it a shot.

Yeah, that is good advice ... I think I'll ask them to do that for
me too!!
RE: CD's skipping
I have over 300 now, and in 5 years I've never had one skip on me
either. I only handle the CD's by the edge/middle, I never leave
them lying around, and I always return them to the jewel box when
I'm done listening to them. The only scratches I have on mine
are from lending some out to my sister's ex-boyfriend.
And as far as CD's skipping on the radio, you've got to remember
a couple things. For one, their players are going constantly and
probably don't have a chance to be cared for as far as cleaning
dust out etc. And for another, I'm sure they don't exactly hand-
le the things with kid gloves.
They are virtually indestructible, but they still deserve a little
care.

Shawn,
There are 2 used CD stores right near my apartment in Worcester.
They are both on Highland St (Rt 9). Right across from the
Sole Proprietor restaraunt. One's called Revolutions and the other
is Al-Bums. Revolutions has a fairly large selection of local
music...both places have about the same collection of used stuff
and about the same prices (I think they're owned by the same people).
But you can find copies of the GFY album there !!! woo hoo !!

Shawn,
Follow the yellow brick road and the little singing munchkins
and you'll get there. Or if that doesn't work just take 290
to Route 9 exit (like you were going to the Centrum). Go west
on Route 9 for at most a mile and its on the left side of the
street. Look for Acapulco (aka the Arch, Aca-puko, that place
with the bad food that stays open til 3am) and look for Store 24.
It is on the block between these two places right across the
street from the Sole Proprietor. Hope that helps...
